Day 1 Done

So we are 3 guys working on our first entry together, and we've decided to create a story driven strategy card game where you play a king that's struggling to control his kingdom.

It's actually going pretty well so far. Besides our insanely ridiculous temp graphics, we spent our day laying the bases for characters with random faces, stats, traits and desires that will all affect the gameplay. We also have basic UI working, and so far it seams like the difficult part is behind us.

This is how it looks right now: Capture.PNG

I know, it's terrible. But it's functional - all the character cards are drag&drop-able, and cities are clickable. You have stat pages for characters, where you can drop action cards: Capture1.PNG

and for cities, where you can drop in a mayor card: Capture2.PNG

Overall, we are pretty happy. The faces and names are all randomized, and so are all the stats and traits, but in a clever way - a psychopath trait, for example, will result in other negative traits and a very bad desire.

Let's see how we go with the actual gameplay development tomorrow...

Receiving Some Amazing Feedback, and Fixing Some Amazing Bugs

Few. The last week was insane. We've finished our game literally 15 minutes before the deadline. Since then, we have been anxiously reading reviews (and obviously writing our own to others) and we have made some conclusions and did some things. First of all, we would like to thank everyone who left a review - most of them are very positive, and those that aren't were helpful too. So thank you for playing and rating our game!

The feedback we have received was mainly split to two: 1. Great concept - most people have said that the concept and ideas behind the game are fantastic and that it is generally pretty fun and will make a great game with some more work. I can't express the joy that comes from all these comments, it's just thrilling. You guys are motivating us to keep on working and make this into a full game after the jam. Thank you so much! 2. BUGS - no idea how this slipped our attention when uploading the game, but there were some very major bugs in there that caused to game to break (while it never crashes, it at very certain occasions decided it doesn't wanna go to the next turn). These problems turned out to be very simple fixes, and we have updated the game. We did not update any content, or tweaked anything at all - the update was purely bug fixes, and the game looks, sounds and plays just the same.

So here we are now. The game is working and we are insanely proud of it. Thank you to everyone who reviewed and commented! If you haven't seen the game yet, check it out here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/kings

Games You Have to Try

After testing and rating a few dozen games, I found a few hidden gems. Without talking too much, here are my favorite games which you should totally check out!

  1. Corrupted: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/corrupted This game is very simple but the concept is genius and it is executed very well. It's a lot of fun.
  2. The Visible City: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/the-visible-city Beautiful, simple, fun and highly original.
  3. ZETPACK-99: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/zetpack-99 Simple puzzle game that uses the theme in a very original way.
  4. Towers of Morale: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/tower-of-morale Another simple but great puzzle game.

All these game are definitely worth your time, give them the attention they deserve!
