Hello everyone!
I’m still new to LD (and it seems like I’ll remain one until the very end) — this will be my third jam. I’d like to share my thoughts on AI, since I see a lot of discussions around it.
First of all, I’d like to say that I’m an artist and a rather mediocre programmer, so I use AI as a tool — mainly as an assistant and for learning programming.
I’m not here to defend or justify AI — I’d say I’m somewhere in the middle on this topic. I honestly don’t like the idea of mindless generation of everything and anything, but at the same time I can’t deny the benefits AI can bring when used properly.
Reading your posts and comments, I kept having one question — let me ask it:
when did game jams turn into a competition of programming / art / music (pick your option)?
In my opinion, it’s first and foremost a competition in game design.
Being a good programmer or artist doesn’t mean you can make a good game if you lack game design.
A game is a complex form of art, but at its core it needs a foundation — and in most cases, that foundation is gameplay.
I won’t draw a conclusion here — everyone can make their own.
Finally, I’d like to add that I’ve been participating in LD for two years now, and I’m really glad to be part of this community. I enjoy reading your posts and playing your games — I’m happy to be here.
However, this post was edited and translated with the help of AI, since my English isn’t good enough yet to fully communicate with you. At least in this way, it helped me become part of this community.
Should I mark this post as AI-assisted?
