Meeting the Space Miner: Z

It all starts with a small, first, step!

We're pumped to introduce our main character, the space miner "Z". Our little traveler is decked out in a rugged suit, specifically designed for exploring inhospitable and potentially dangerous places. explorer.png

He travels on special missions to find rare crystals, sold all across the galaxy for being excellent fuel cells for spaceship technology.

Soon we'll be sharing more info about the game and the world our character is in. Stay tuned for more updates on the adventures of our mineral miner!

A little about the Friga Isle region

ABOUT

Within the vast icy world, Friga Isle stands out, a peninsula of endless tundra and desolation. The frozen ground disappears from view, interrupted only by resistant vegetation. In the center, the mysterious Luna Lake reflects the gray sky above. Even though it may seem deprived, Friga Isle buzzes with life. Each wind brings with it a tale, each footprint, a memory. Here, in the face of the spreading cold and darkness, we, its inhabitants, stand firm, symbolizing human resistance in the face of the merciless unknown.

And I said: Hello, Satan!

"Early this mornin'
When you knocked upon my door
Early this mornin', ooh
When you knocked upon my door
And I said, Hello, Satan
I believe it's time to go"

Me And The Devil Blues - Robert Johnson

Hello everyone! We've already kicked off here, and in these first few hours, we've defined our concept and mechanics. We are going to create a game based on the legendary tale of Dr. Faust and Mephistopheles. We've established our first concept art and are now focused on developing the first playable version by 6 AM (-3 GMT). Happy Game Jam to all!

Is it a Ouija board?

On the second day, there are updates in the modeling area; we have our first version of our board. We conducted research on apotropaic objects and will create a mix of a board with dice to deal with supernatural forces. Here are some images of what's happening.

Do you also get scared?

As we work on this darker theme, we sometimes find ourselves scared of what we're creating. We're a team of 12 people here, and as night falls, we become quieter and more focused. But when it comes time to handle the darker content and the game starts taking shape, it gives us chills, hehehe. However, we're happy with the results we're achieving.

The band is together!

We've finalized the concept for the mystical arts that will go on the board. I personally like the one on the right better because it's sticking out its tongue—it looks like it's mocking, haha.

Which one would be your protection amulet?

In the medieval era, and a bit afterward, there were various objects and items considered apotropaic, used to protect people from evil spirits and malevolent forces.

Inspired by this, we've created our amulets. The player will need to choose theirs carefully, as it will make a significant difference when facing the most formidable entities. I like the fourth one because it seems to have a key that unlocks or leads to an important place. Which of the amulets would you choose?

Who wants to play?

We've finished texturing the central part of our board. We drew a lot of inspiration from Dungeon Fighters, and I think the result is turning out quite intriguing. One cool thing about this board is that it blends various visual elements which required some really interesting research into occultism and mysticism.

Now, let's cross our fingers and hope that rolling the dice on the "10" position isn't too difficult, hehehe.

The Old Lady is on the loose!

We're halfway through the second day, and the implementations have already started. We're currently positioning one of the characters, whom we're affectionately calling "The Old Lady" for now. There are many things to implement, and we hope that by the end of the day, this little lady will become something frightening and menacing.

What is your desire?

When we began writing the dialogue for the game's introduction, we realized there are several moments where our narrative touches on a somewhat philosophical point: Is what we want really what we need? Or are we like Dr. Faust, who succumbed to the desire for more and paid a heavy price for it? I enjoy when game development transcends entertainment and starts to intersect with deeper issues.

What do you all think?

How many spirits can I capture with my mystical board?

Did you see our first board on the first day? Now we have the final version, and honestly, we love the result. It has a distinctly medieval artistic touch, and we strived to make it look like it has been passed down through generations.

Do you think we succeeded?
