LD32

I’m in for the first time…

… I will try to finish something. Right now I’m still brainstorming on ideas, really trying NOT to build a platformer :p!

I’ll use Love and either Photoshop/Paint.NET, albeit later in the process.

Progress in ’60 Second Opera Death’

After spending most of my morning deciding on which idea to implement, I now have a working proof of concept for the game I have in mind. It might not look like it, but the concept is:

  • You’re an evil opera singer, and you can manipulate your voice in ways that are deadly for anyone in your vicinity (their brain gets fried and ears bleed out)
  • You do most damage when ‘hitting’ the notes right (hence the random letters on top)

There is also a timer that makes the game more interesting… Red means dead btw :p

Right now I’m mostly concerned about sounds and music, since the nature of this game would be lacking without them – that’s why I can’t decide between the compo or the jam…

I’m happy though that my prototype works! Now it’s mainly juicing time; I am considering some extra mechanics but for right now, I want to KISS :). I wish the best to everyone else participating!

Basic graphics for ’60 Second Opera Death’

I’m going to call this a day… Spent the whole night creating some graphics for the game. I’m satisfied with the stage background and most of the singer head, but I would like to do some additional work for the spectators. Two gifs to end the night:

Do you have any ideas for the spectators graphics? Do you think the scrolling notes section should be different?

Tomorrow I will mostly refine graphics, add sounds and juice it up!

I feel like the notes should sort of resemble a musical staff; A is C, S is D, D is E, F is F, etc. I mean, label the keys you have to hit on the quarter notes, but that seems like it would be preferable

I’m done, going to sleep…

60 Second Opera Death is done! This first time in LD was OK, I didn’t have much time but I like the final result (especially the sounds – they make 70% of the fun :p).

I might write more tomorrow, for now good luck to the Jammers and Compo-ers!

We’re in for the Jam

The second time for me, first time for my friend (sespiros). We are splitting responsibilities by him scripting (for now) and me doing 3D stuff :). We had a great idea, sat down to discuss it and came up with a simple and engaging concept – that seems quite balanced in theory. Chose the two button theme, albeit I argue we can fit the Growing tagline in there too. deepnight was an inspiration 😉

Tech

  • Unity3D (C#, UnityScript)
  • Blender for 3D models, Photoshop for textures
  • Music with whatever we find easy

I’m doing a timelapse, and gameplay GIFs are coming too!

Ludum Dare 47

A very British Game-off

Ready to roll!

Some of us are virgins in this, but let's hope it's easy to ride out.

I can't believe we're using this game engine...

It's just Unity.

And we're a bit rusty on it...

After a rushed morning with everyone figuring out what to start with, I think it's fair to say...

It's been a learning day.

But! Here's a devlog update anyway, mostly to take a step back and reflect at what everyone has worked on.

Our GPS Expert @psibuck has been working on navigating the robot (main mechanic of the game), environment animations and evangelising about mesh scaling issues between Blender and Unity.

wheeeeee.gif

Our Asset Production Specialist @itsisaac has spent the day fleshing out our friendly housekeping robot's look, and working on environment meshes. Also apparently learning how to UV unwrap cubes.

robot-render.png

Our VFX Producing Manager @lachezar-hubanov took over the inhumane task of delving deep into the Unity shaders, figuring out our object selection visuals/logic, mentoring clueless team members about Unity, and breaking our git repository. Truly a man of all hats.

And I have been working on several interaction scripts, which will be the main mechanic of the game. Also somehow managed to be the resident Git IT guy :p.

To leave with a few parting GIFs of a semi-working, POC part of our game, here is a... scene.

Ludum Dare 53

Looking for 2D artist (EU time zone)

Decided once again to try the fun/sweat/tears dev cycle that is called Ludum Dare, but I think being in a team will make the experience better. I will be using Godot and have experience coding, shaders and some audio stuff. Last time I was in a team we made A100P (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/a100p) which was so much fun to create!

Any 2D artists in the EU time zone? I’m in London myself.
