People are STILL submitting games for me to rate on stream… Three days after the stream, haha. As a result, I will do one more stream, today!

My house will be empty for an hour, so like any rebellious teenager, I’ll be live streaming again, since the last one was so much fun. If you’ve already submitted your game, chances are you’ll have it played in stream.

Otherwise, you can submit via the form you’ll find on my Dare to Play comment, but I can’t guarantee it.

I plan to stream for an hour or so, at around 14:30 GMT today  NOW!.

My Twitch is Kappa_Barsavi!

I’m sorry for being so lazy with links, on mobile and the college has banned the Ludum Dare site. :(

EDIT: I am home.

Here’s the list.

Here’s the submission form. I will play your game, but I can’t guarantee to play it on stream, since I have a stockpile already submitted, and I only have just over an hour to stream.
Hope to see you there!

Your college did what? That’s lame :(

Pathetic Last minute beg to get to 50.

I’ve played about 70 games thanks to my streams, and I haven’t disliked a single one :)

Now I ask for help, in the last few moments before the end, to give my game a very quick play. It takes only a minute to get the gist of it, and to help get me to 50 votes, since after you reach 40, it’s a slow, agonising progress. I have had seven more since then, yet I reached 40 two weeks ago.
[If you do have the time, I implore you to check it out here!]

Thanks, regardless :)

Hopefully, I’m in!

Hello all!

I’m back. And currently panicking because in a week my A level results are in, and they will determine the rest of my life, including whether or not I go to Uni.

Fears aside, I’m doing well. Super happy with my last result, and I doubt this time will top it, because for the first time in the, what, five LDs I’ve participated in? I’m not going to be using GameMaker !

Still using Paint.NET and BFXR, in all likelihood, but…

I’ve used what little time I’ve had this summer to learn some Unity! And not very much of it, so it’s going to be a real challenge to get anything made at all, but I am so looking forward to it.
It just now occurs to me that I haven’t even looked at the 2D aspect of Unity, which I really should do, because I don’t intend on making a 3D game…

Welp, I’ve got to go do that now! See you guys soon!

Oh hello, I remember playing your last game. Good luck!

Hey you!

With you being new to Unity and all, would you want to team up or anything? It’s me and a composer/possible artist so far. I’m gonna be using Unity, and we have Unity Collaborate, which allows for much easier cooperation. I already sent you a message on Twitch with instructions to get a hold of me, for if you are interested.

Silence since my I’m in post, but I’m here with lofty ambitions and some progress!

Hey, so news!

Stuff came up and I had to cancel my participation, but then some other stuff uncame up and hip-hip hooray, I have half a Sunday and a Monday free!

So sadly, with so little time, I’ve fled back to my GM roots, and will attempt Unity next time.
But, I’m challenging myself by trying to make the game aesthetically pleasing technically too!

To aid me in this (i.e. by doing most of the work) my good friend is here to make my game bedazzling.

Here’s his LD Profile: http://ludumdare.com/compo/author/technicolour/

It’s to be a sort of semi-explorative dungeoneering Platformer where you have to light torches with your Great Flame, and doing so before it dies out. Using your magic spear attack takes a chunk out of the Flame’s life too, so you have to be conservativem, but you’ll be able to top up your Flame at specific areas.

Of course, I couldn’t end without a gif, so here you are, and best of luck guys!

(obviously, the player is drawn by me, wip)

Progress! Five hours to go, time to actually make the game.

So, the systems are all in place, now to make the dungeon itself. This is where things get messy, I hope the mechanics are solid and deep enough to ensure the game doesn’t get repetitive.
As you’ll see from the gif, you mustn’t allow your torch to die, for the torch is one of humanity’s very first piece of technology! This magic torch drains very slowly, but being hit by enemies drains it lots, and using your attack drains it a bit too, so you must be conservative and navigate your way to the five magic braziers you need to ignite!

😀

Good Luck Have Fun with the rest of your five remaining hours guys.

Ignite your life with Ig-Knight!

Tech and I had a blast making this, even though right at the last two hours I had to totally change the game from an exploration-based one to a wave based arcade game, because the mechanics were sound (especially the combat mechanics), but the world had no time to be built, unfortunately, but that is a project for the future.

So check it out, if you would! The world’s most ancient technology is fire, and with flame we enlighten. So join Mr Knighy Knight (not actual name) on a quest to keep his Flame from dying, using his magic fiery spears of justice.

Yeah. Let’s go with that.

Hey Nerds! SmartWilliam here, the guy that made this game look pretty! I’m very happy with this, it’s my first Ludum Dare entry and first serious attempt at video game art.

I’m pleased with how it turned out, especially since Me and Poly both started a little late lol. Yeah I had a blast doing all the art for it. I wish I had some more time to refine the player character, but That’s what Ludum Dare is all about! Now I need to regain some sleep, Ludum Dare messed up my sleep schedule.

-SmartWilliam (Sam)
You can play Ig-Knight here! Thanks. We look forward to playing your entries. May even stream some individually.

Ludum Dare 37

I’m in! (and with a friend!)

Tally ho!

I’ve returned for my seventh Ludum Dare and, ooh isn’t this an exciting one? A new site! Fancy that!

So much in my life has changed since the last one. I’m now a student, living in digs and living it up. I’ve acquired new skills and met new people. Life’s good!
The one thing I haven’t done, is learned Unity yet.

So, like I say every time, it’s back to using GameMaker Studio. I have, in fairness, begun to learn the ins and outs of Unity, but not enough yet to make something substantial. Next time, I swear it.

Joining me, is my friend, SmartWilliam, artist extraordinaire. We collaborated last time and it went swimmingly, so this time it’ll hopefully be even better!

I am super hyped for this one, since I’m living alone now I might stream it! Then as soon as the Ludum Dare is over, I’m going home for the holidays. Very happy.
Good luck, and see you all tomorrow!

Here’s a terrible graphic that I didn’t make, rather it was made using a generator:

Effect and Cause?

That’s right. We have an idea, and it’s taking shape, and it’s stolen from that one great level from Titanfall 2!

It’s going to be a survival game set in a single large room, but you time-travel instantaneously between two eras – future and past, in order to maneuvre your way around the area and kill enemies and score points. Currently, I have the time-travelling mechanic just about sussed:

ld371

You play as Reginald Vortex (name TBD) the time-travelling robot who looks like the love-child between Clank and Genji, thanks to the brilliant work of SmartWilliam:

This adorable little guy’s arms  are basically lightsabers. Oooooh yes.

You guys are looking great, as usual. Keep it up! Progress report out, time for lunch.

Taha

Effect and Cause: Our poor robot just can’t catch a break.

Even with time travel powers, our poor cute ninja robot of death can’t seem to catch a break. Here in the future he is accosted by an unruly soldier, so as he flips between the past and the future to overcome his path he finds that perhaps the Jurassic era is not so safe, either.

Can you tell which one of the sprites has been drawn by the artist, and the others by me? 😀

A nice little gif of our progress for today. SmartWill has clocked out for now, but I’ll be continuing after dinner, for a little while. Loving the ideas, as usual. Come say hi, if we stream (which we do, on and off)! Apologies for the low frame rate, file sizes and the like.

End of Day one. A little parting GIFt.

So, it’s the same as before, just I wanted to share it again. Even with time travel powers, our poor cute ninja robot of death can’t seem to catch a break. Here in the future he is accosted by an unruly soldier, so as he flips between the past and the future to overcome his path he finds that perhaps the Jurassic era is not so safe, either.

ld37gif2

Clocking out myself. Today’s progress consisted of:

  • The idea
  • The guy
  • The platforming
  • Time travelling
  • Fixing the platforming so you couldn’t time travel in to a wall
  • Basic future enemy AI
  • Basic past enemy AI

Going to sleep now, so I can be up nice and early tomorrow and add in the following:

  • Fix velociraptor so he doesn’t move like… that
  • Add the player’s attacks and make them kill the enemy
  • Enemy spawner and wave timer + difficulty scaling
  • Design of the room, both in the past and future versions.
  • Power ups
  • Health and Death
  • Sounds and music
  • All of the remaining art
  • ??? SECRETS

Phew! That’s quite a task. But I’ve all of tomorrow and Monday to tackle it, and I do so with a friend. Looking good, guys! Have a good night/day.

Taha
PS: Here’s the finished walk cycle of Reginald Vortex himself, sadly low res since it’s so teensy.:

Belated “We did it!” Post + Competition + Streaming Entries

Hey so this is like nineteen posts in one, because after the Ludum Dare I spent the next day cleaning and packing and then made the long trip back home for the holidays. I was bored of the loneliness of Uni.

So, I present to you our submission: Tempus Machina! Personally, it is my seventh LD entry, and quite possibly my favourite. It is also the first entry of mine to have bespoke music! Courtesy of Lopodyr! Thanks again, buddy.

The wonderful art was done by SmartWilliam and the punchy sfx was done by Birdmammoth. I did all of the techy bits.

You play a time-travelling robot (like the Terminator, but cuter) and you must kill as many cyborg soldiers and velociraptors as possible by switching instantly between the past and future to plan your positioning. There’s actually a bit of a hidden story to the stage by way of some exposition in the future stage, but what good is words when pictures are worth a thousand? Woo, Gifs! That’s like a million words!

The other awesome thing about the game is that, for the first time ever, I’ve gotten online High Scores to work in GM:S! So we’re running a little competition. Whoever is on the Top 10 high score table at the end of the judging period will be awarded our Terminator Trophy, with the Top 3 each getting a special version of it!

TempusTrophy

The current leaderboard is mostly comprised of myself, and since I suck, it’s not hard to beat me. The artist is much better at it, so (don’t tell him I said this) please do your best to kick him off before he gets too smug!

hs

If you would like to play Tempus Machina, you can do so >>here<< (opens in a new tab)

Now, the other half of this post is that, at some point this week in daytime GMT, I will be spending a few hours streaming entries. I won’t be able to get through a huge amount because I like to give each game a fair shake, but I will be doing more streaming in the third week of judging as well (Next week I’m off to Spain!).

So, if you would like to have your game judged on stream, please fill in this handy form!

You can find my Twitch Channel here (click the well-drawn picture of me)

Taha Fsjal

Alrighty, that about sums it up. I’ll be writing up a post-mortem, at some point. Can’t wait to play your entries!

Thanks,
Taha

PS: This post took like two hours to make haha. Was it worth it? Probably not.

Streaming entries now!

Hello!

Just here to say that I’m beginning streaming now! Today will be my only stream till the third week, as at the weekend I’m leaving for Spain.

So! If you want your game added to the list (though, My GOD it’s huge list), feel free to submit here: https://goo.gl/forms/Xd9BMtm7VK6wQkUI3

Catch me here: click me :)

Also, wow! The competition is truly kicking off now, somebody has booted our artist out of first place on the leaderboard!

hs

We’re running a competition so that anybody who is on the leaderboard (that’s top 10) at the end of judging gets a trophy like this:

TempusTrophy

With special ones for the Top 3!
Please get him off of the leaderboard entirely!

Thanks!

Moving my Journal here for the sweet gifs

Hey so Repressurised is going nicely, considering my absolute inexperience with Unity :)

“Explosions” are working and you can blow up the planet now. We think we’re going to have you start off in the centre, with the goal of both finding… something, and also reaching the surface. Of course, right now you have no pressurising aspect of REPressurised, that’s to come :)

Explosion

Silly awful “trailer”. Some of the audio is from DOUBLEKING.

As usual, your stuff is looking amazing! Best of luck to you all and wish me luck! I really need it, haha.
