LD 39

I'm in.

My goal is to just finish something as I've a lot of drinking, and hangovering to attend to this weekend.

Game Logic done!

Not going to be winning any awards for technical merit - to ensure a finish, I went with the most basic gameplay loop I could imagine.. I give you, Donald Trump teaches Typing (in a desperate attempt to keep some level of political power).

Now that the gameplay loop is ready, it's finally time to get rid of those white boxes and start drawing us some programmer art.

There's almost a full work day remaining!

However, that doesn't help when "oh god this is my weekend why am I fatigued" kicks in.

Keep going, finish line in sight :)

Here's a little more programmer art to keep you motivated.

Almost there..

Just a small few sound effects left to create.

Hey, I actually finished!

The "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" meets "Donald Trump’s Twitter" mash-up that nobody ever asked for.

First time using SFXR, Bosca Ceoil, and the Rider IDE. Rider has a lot of bugs that need working out before it leaves RC, but playing about with SFXR and Bosca was pretty fun.

Congrats to everyone who made the Jam deadline!

Thank you!

Thank you so much to everyone who has rated, and left comments on "Powerless: Trump Teaches Typing" ( https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/powerless-trump-teaches-typing ).

All your feedback has made this LD well worth the hungover coding, late hours, and panic as the servers went down when the original submission deadline approached :)

In particular, thank you all for avoiding a political slander-fest in the comments, and focusing on the content itself. The game itself isn't intended to alienate, or poke fun at any particular political party or person - but intended as a funny satire of the situation we find ourselves all in at the moment. The fact that so many people saw the humour in it is just awesome to see.

I promise I'll repay every rating that's been given to Trump Teaches Typing. I've got family visiting at the moment (my first visit since moving abroad!), so I've unfortunately not been able to donate a h(y)uge amount of time to playing LD entries - although the 30 or so I did get a chance to play have all been awesome entries. And I'm bigly looking forward to rating more.

Thanks again for all your feedback - and have an awesome weekend!

LD 42

It's been a year, but I'm in.

Since my last LD entry, I've moved Country, changed careers, had a minor meltdown, and abandoned more side projects than I could care to count - but here we are, almost a year later, and it's high time we pushed out another LD title.

Entering the compo as a one man army. Theme pending, I'm aiming towards something retro-racer style. And similarly, hoping for an excuse to improve my shader programming. As per usual, I'll be using Unity3D and their free compliment of tools (ProBuilder, TextMesh etc).

Good luck all, here's to a good jam!

On the bright side..

For LD43, we can look forward to the selected theme definitely being "-1".

Good luck all! I already have a great idea of the type of game I want to build, which is definitely not even remotely feasible within the 48hr timeframe. Looking forward to throwing it out the window and coding shit-tier C# for 2 days straight while trying to release literally anything that will do me the favour of compiling.

Remember, once you're done whinging..

..there's a compo & jam to enter.

It's not THAT bad of a theme. If you're in distress, just do as I plan on doing - add vaporwave & outrun aesthetics to just about everything on there.

Good luck all!

Bowing out..

Unfortunately, I bit off a little more than I could chew - always a bad idea following a few months of crunch at the day job. I've been working on vehicle mechanics for a full day now, and I'm sorry to say that my home-rolled was wildly broken, wheras swapping to a wheel-collider system did provide a little relief on the gameplay side, it also broke the main feature (being able to scale your vehicle in size to either smash through objects, or squeeze through tiny spaces).

However, I'm pretty happy with the visual style - very basic, but I think the vaporwave lighting complimented that. I think the focus on light sources rather than model geometry lends itself really well to LD - definitely a style I'll revisit next time, but with a far more basic gameplay loop in mind.

I think next time, I'll book a day or two off work before LD kicks off - coming straight off of crunch, to put yourself back into crunch for LD just doesn't work very well. I've been far too lethargic, and fuzzy-minded to get any scripts really out of the conceptual zone, and into something that feels good to play.

Best of luck to everyone still in - hope you rock it!
