Just a guess, probably Unity. It seems like everyone and their step son is using Unity .-.

Hey there! Our of our games were made in MMF 2, and we’ve been doing quite decently :)

I’m In, first LD for me ;)

So, I decided to give it a try… here are the tools i’m planning to use :

  • unity 3d as the main tool
  • Adobe Ilustrator, Adobe Photoshop for 2d
  • 3d Studio Max for 3d
  • soundation.com/studio for main music
  • http://www.bfxr.net/ for sound effects

Some unity plugins for graphics and audio :

  • NGUI for hud and menus
  • Toolkit 2d – for 2d animations and sprites
  • AudioToolkit for audio

I will use osX for developing with virtual box running windows 8 for 3d studio max…

Also I have a small program called Gawker for screen recording to create a nice time lapse with the development.

I’m not sure yet if I want to go with 3d or 2d ….. will see based on the theme

Little Snow World is ready to face the public

Has been an great weekend… seemed like a few hours… had lots of troubles…

First this was my first “game jam”, a compo actually, but I’m proud that I could finish it.

Heres the entry : http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-31/?action=preview&uid=44047

Or go play it online : http://games.dm-studio.ro/ld31/

Here is some renders with the art used in the game, all is available for you, I created it with mobile in mind… all models share the same texture, not the best use of space on it… but deh.. there ware 24 hours only for me.

The tools used ware :

  • unity3d
  • 3d studio max
  • adobe photoshop
  • http://www.bfxr.net/

As a note NGUI plugin was used, which is paid… and is not included in the source, also unity image effects are not included as they are from the paid version (you can include them in your project as unity is free for LD) also you can install the free version of NGUI and build the project yourself.

Making a game

tablet1

Hey guys, I wanted to share with you the story of my first officially released game…

I had many attempts before this, had great plans great ideas but unfortunate none of them get anywhere…. why ? because I aimed to high, I wanted to create the best game ever with all the possible features and all this by my self.

With this last game, I approached differently, with the idea, I will create a game with the basic features in place and after I released it will add more, if I have the mood and the time… and as it seems this worked.

Here is the game : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ro.dms.kingofthetree for now just Android, will add iOS asap.

It’s insane to realize how many details you need for a little game like this, banners, images, descriptions, icons, etc.

I also setup a facebook app and a facebook page to promote the app : https://www.facebook.com/kingofthetree

The effort involved :

  • about 300 hours of my work, programming, art, facebook page, webservice, other accounts requred (abmob, etc)
  • about 100$ in art
  • about 50$ in sound
  • 150$ in unity plugins (which I will use in other projects)

The tools used ware very basic :

The art and the sound for purchased from envato websites.

Thanks !

Good job! Release a game is already a big achievement! As you mentioned, many things need to take into account and do all that by yourself is quite remarkable.

Nice! Did you pay for art to save time, or is it a weaker point compared to your programming?

I only ask because my artistic abilities are non-existant, and its incredibly useful to see how others get around it :)
