Confusion about ldjam and ludumdare websites

Hello all,

Looking forward to participating in my first game jam. We'll see how my <= 11 yr old kids can help out. 9 yr old says he's in (but never programmed). My mileage may vary. Was originally planning to do GODOT, but been messing about with Pico8 which I'm pretty excited about. "Hey kids, this is like my glory days of game programming." All we're missing is the paged Mode X video. I digress.

I was hoping to give some feedback to make the website easier to navigate/understand. Or get feedback for myself to clear up things. I think the current - as I understand in development - situation may be a bit difficult for new people to get going with.

Learn more takes you to: https://ludumdare.com/#schedule

Which says next event is LD51. Schedule has been updated, latest news is stale.

If you picked help

  • Rules link is broke: https://ludumdare.com/resources/rules
  • Guides work --> and migration to ldjam.com is discussed.
  • Questions link works and is helpful.
  • Topics is bare, has same link to rules, link for derivative works.

Given the migration plan, perhaps ludumdare should be updated to better point to ldjam page resources?

As for ldjam.com: Since event details for ld55 aren't posted, I presume I can reference: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/

Perhaps on the top bar a link to left of "My Game / New Post / Notifications / Personal" can be added. * Either "Getting Started" or "Sticky posts" with helpful info from ludumdare.com / ldjam posts? * Hmm, maybe the Explore --> Events --> Ludum Dare Rules is what I'm looking for? * For now, perhaps the Explore button should be changed to Events button until the Explore landing page is done.

It would be nice for the different Ludum Dare compos to be links in the coming up section of page. As it is, I typically edit the URL.

Almost maybe have something...

From our first time attempt game jam. Using pico8, here's our cover art. demo.png

It definitely won't be complete... but perhaps playable.

I've attempted a few posts before, don't think they made it out. Lets see if this one works.

Unity games not displaying properly (too wide/big) on Linux using WINE

Hi,

First off, I've been quite thrilled that I've been able to run so many games on Linux. However I'm seeing a common issue with some unity games and resolution detection(?). I wonder if others in the community are familiar with this/have a fix. My first round of google searches have failed me... except I have tried changing virtual desktop resolutions to be bigger - that seems to work except now it's all too big for my screens.

My setup is dual screen.

1680x1050 and 1280x1024 running off a: 0a:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GA104 [GeForce RTX 3060 Ti] (rev a1)

640x480 75.00 72.81 59.94

Here's an example of what I see on my 1650x1050 monitor. Second image below shows my created a virtual desktop (in wine, this is what I found to do from google)... I set for 2680px wide... now I see the application seems to want to render at 1830 pixels wide (looks like I may have issues in the y direction too).

Here is a log from me running the program: https://pastebin.com/zsDNHHrV -- Likes like below make me wonder if there is not some "fixing" needed in WINE... ``` 00d4:fixme:dxgi:dxgioutputGetDisplayModeList iface 00007F8FDF046480, format DXGIFORMATR8G8B8A8UNORM, flags 0, modecount 000000000010F4F0, modes 0000000000000000 partial stub! 00d4:fixme:dxgi:dxgioutputGetDisplayModeList iface 00007F8FDF046480, format DXGIFORMATR8G8B8A8UNORM, flags 0, modecount 000000000010F4F0, modes 0000000030160010 partial stub!

A cute huge pet

As we were going through the slaughter round and hit "Cute Huge Pets" -- my daughter drew this one: ld56 - cute huge pet, 1024x700.png

Feedback from laughter round, I mean slaughter round

I hear lots of anguish from bad themes... do we get any feedback on our theme submissions? This is the first time I've been able to participate in the theme suggestion, so perhaps we do get feedback on our submission and I just haven't seen it, but I'm thinking not?

What I'm asking for is to know what percentage of people slaughtered or kept your submission. Or even being able to see the ranked results of prior rounds? Just wondering if it would help people to brainstorm "new" ideas if they see what gets slaughtered in prior rounds?

Mama Duck Hero is published.

So I had an idea we were brainstorming shortly after the theme drop, but then we saw a some baby ducks on a pond and decided a mother duck quack counted as a signal to her ducklings. So began Mama Duck Hero, another entry in our "HERO" line of games.

Spent too much time Saturday day trying to figure out grass. Spent too much time dealing with navigation meshes in Godot last night. But managed to get this pulled together and released!

Looking forward to playing all your games.
