LD 42

Compo or Jam?

I was planning on doing the Jam so that I have more time to work on my game, but the idea of challenging myself with the compo is starting to really appeal to me. I'm planning on creating everything from scratch and working solo either way, so that's not a big motivator to make me do the jam. The one thing holding me back, however, is having to publish source code. If I want to expand on my game after LD and potentially publish and sell it at some point I'm not sure I want to publish my source code online for anyone to copy. Does anyone have any experience or input on the matter?

I'm in for the Compo!

I have some ideas for this theme but I'm trying to be more creative with it. Going to take some time to think about it while I get my environment set up and see if anything jumps out at me!

First compo finished!

I went into this compo expecting to be hard-pressed for time and tried to limit scope as much as I could to make that happen. Unfortunately I also decided that this was a good opportunity to learn about Tilemaps in Unity. I spent a bad amount of time trying to figure out how to do something that, as far as I can tell, can't actually be done (Programatically change the sprite displayed by a Tile object). That killed my spirits for a bit on Saturday so I didn't spend as much time working on my game as I thought it would. Stepping away and coming back helped, though, and I eventually figured out a different way to accomplish essentially what I wanted. Unfortunately I figured it out around 1pm today...so I didn't have time to apply it as deeply as I had intended. All in all, I got to try out some stuff, learned some things, and overall had a fun time! I might even keep working on this game after this. Hope everyone else had fun too!

Ludum Dare 48

Finished

It's been several years since I last completed LD! I didn't make anything really complicated or impressive, but I stuck to the original scope I laid out for myself and avoided getting bogged down in any details. My game is complete, playable, and actually challenging enough to make it fun! But most importantly, I was able to complete the game in under 48 hours even though I couldn't dedicate all of my time to it. This was a great motivator to remind me why I like game development and hopefully it will be the encouragement I need to get back into the hobby again.

Updating my game after submission

How can I go about releasing updates to my game without removing the original version I posted for the compo? I have it up on itch.io.
