So, long story short about our jam experience:
We quickly developed our idea, so by the end of day one, we had some working mechanics in place. What should have been our next steps? Naturally, we should have been testing the game, playing it, creating levels, and so forth—that's what a game design lesson would tell you in the first five minutes. However, what did we find ourselves doing instead? We focused on UI, expanding mechanics, refining graphics, adding sounds, and composing music... Yes, everything but the actual gameplay.
Then, suddenly, we realized that we had only 8 hours left before the jam ended, and all we had was a rudimentary tutorial level with no sense of balance.
We scrambled to create levels, but soon realized that with our current set of mechanics, we couldn't make them engaging. New ideas emerged for enhancing our game, but time wasn't on our side.
Nevertheless, we learned valuable lessons, and for the next jam, we'll prioritize the gameplay above all else.
Despite the challenges, we did achieve one thing we set out to do: create a game about funny pigs. If you're curious to see some amusing piggies in action, feel free to check out our game: Piggy Harvest
