#LD38 - Progress!

After a late start, I finally have something to show before I go to sleep! All feedback is appreciated! http://imgur.com/a/eAkP1 :stars::rocket::fireworks:

Planets!

I now have proper movement, planets, and shooting implemented! :rocket:

Different enemies!

I finally have different levels of enemies implemented! First person to guess their respective levels (eg Easy, Medium, etc) gets fake internet points! :rocket:

Main Menu!

I have made more progress on the GUI of my game! Sounds are also coming along nicely! :rocket:

Finally done and submitted! (Plus a quick post-mortem)

I actually finished around 5am AUSEST, but after a good sleep, I thought I would make a post about it. Here is a bit of a reflection:

Things done well

  • Art. I'm super thankful to my friend Maspenguin for providing the base sprites for the player and enemies (i then coloured the enemies). I'm also happy with how the planets turned out, thanks to http://donjon.bin.sh/scifi/world/index.cgi
  • Game design. I'm pretty happy with how the game ended up looking and feeling. Even though there are a fare few things to improve, I'm happy with the overall product.

Things done badly

  • Time management. After thinking about my ideas, I just got into designing and programming. In retrospect, I really should of have made a plan.
  • Levels. I left this to the last minute, and didn't get to implement different levels like how I originally wanted to.
  • Enemies. I originally wanted to have different health levels for different enemies, but I didn't get around to this.
  • Pizzazz. I really wanted to get some extra 'flair' into my game, with things like power-ups, and different modifiers for enemies. Unfortunately, I simply didn't have time for these.

Things to improve

  • Planning. I want to dedicate some time in my next jam to make a plan so I can prioritise certain parts of the game over other parts, helping me to create a better game overall.
  • Time management. Next LD, I want to use some time management software so that I can plan out my project better.

Here's the description:

A retro game inspired by the games like 'Space Invaders', Micro-World Defence puts you in the pilot's seat. Defend against 'Floaters', a fierce-some enemy that will stop at nothing to destroy small worlds.

I don't even have enough comments to make a wordcloud. :slight_frown:

Come play, comment and vote on my game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/micro-world-defense :rocket:

Some statistics and analytics.

I thought I would share some stats from my game Micro-World Defense!

First off, lets have a look at my ratings so far: wasd.PNG

So, it looks like we have between 23 and 27 votes. Obviously, my game isn't very numerous, as that has the least amount of votes, while the graphics are the best part, with 27 votes, which is equal to the overall rating. After looking at this, I assumed I only have had 27 downloads, right?

Well, lets have a look at my itch.io stats, as it should show me some more specific analytics.

itcho.PNG

Huh. So I've had 62 views, and 37 downloads. This was pretty interesting to me. Because I didn't have a web build, I only get about 60% of viewers to download my game. But what about those 37 downloads? Did 10 people not like my game enough to leave a rating?

If anyone else has some interesting statistics from LD38, or has some insights into my statistics, I would be interested in seeing them!

Good Luck, Have Fun!

No seriously, you should have tons of fun :)

A first look!

Lots of back end stuff happening, but it's starting to come together! Feedback is appreciated (but ignore the programmer art).
