Godspeed, Sir!

First update

Yeah i have worked about 2-3 hours on the game now and it is going quite well. (Damn i started way to late :/)

I have my idéa done and are doing game functionality now.

Behold my beautiful game so far 😛

First day done

My first ludum dare day is done! 😀

I think i have done enough today to be able to finish by tomorrow.
I am done with most of the basic functions but i still got the more complicated code left to do and some UI work too (or alot :P)
I have some ideás i want to implement but i don’t know if i have enough time so i will implent as much as i can.
I even think i got a name for my game but that will wait until i am somewhat finished with the game.

And last a screenshot of what i got so far.

Starting running out of time

So far today i haven’t work much and the time is running away.

What i am done with:

  • Upgrades or “Mutation” :P
  • Some what HUD
  • Basic enemy and AI
  • I think all of player controlls

What i am not done with or want to be added:

  • Boss
  • Player can die :P
  • Title screen
  • Progressing difficulty
  • And some more

And the name for the game will be “Geomelution” By combination Geometry and Evolution smart or what (or not ^^)
It is about a Line is evolving to more advance geometries but in this case more of an circle and the goal is an circle and it need to defeat other lines and geometries to become that circle (Most awesome story, right? :P).

Anyhow here is an screenshot

I’m in!

I’m in for the second time!

My tools:

  • Language: Actionscript 3.0
  • Engine: If any it will be FlashPunk
  • IDE: Flash Builder
  • Art: Paint.NET
  • Sound: SFXR / BFXR
  • Music: Some music generator
  • Other: Google

Change of plan

I woke up this moring and saw the theme Minimalism and decided to change language to Java.

So my changes will be following:

  • Language: Java
  • IDE: Eclipe

Lets start coding! (but first maybe an idéa)

A small update

I have been working somewhat about 3-5 hours now (mostly thinking of an idéa)

What I have come up with is that i will make some kind of minimalistic arena shooter.

What’s so far done is Game loop, base classes, rendering, collision detection and some more stuff.

And screenshot

Placeholder for player (probably)

Signing of for today

Made some progress but not much… Mostly because of lack of motivation.
Anyhow, I am making some kind of minimalistic arena shooter with multiple enemies and weapons (and maybe a boss) atleast i have a plan for tomorrow, knowing what i should do ^^
And screenshot.

The “arena”

Good night!

Update!

A new day, a new update.

I think I should make proper graphics instead of squars and circles.

What do you guys think, continue like this or add “proper” graphics?

Controls(temporary): Arrow keys, Z , X and C

Minirena – Post mortem

First of all here is my entry http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=14496

What went right

  • I finished on time
  • Got enough sleep

What went okay

  • Code structure was okay but i still got duplicate code here and there

What went bad less good

  • Graphics. I can’t draw so well and i could not think of any either, so all my graphic became squares
  • Difficulty. I made that the last hour and if you haven’t played the game as much as me the developer then i can guess the game is very hard
  • Motivation. Lack of motivation is never fun, mostly because i could not come up with an “good” idéa.

Still i had some fun, and i learned some new things but now it’s time to rate some games.

I’m in!

Now is my third time i will be doing this and this time i might try adding actual graphics instead of lines, circles and squares 😛

My tools:

  • Language: Actionscript 3.0
  • Engine: FlashPunk
  • IDE: Flash Builder
  • Art: Paint.NET/Adobe Flash Pro
  • Sound: SFXR / BFXR

  • Other: Google

Progress so far after about 4 hours

Today i woke up around 6 hour after the theme had been announced and started working on it after i had breakfast.

Now i have worked with my game for about 4 hours and i’m progressing good so far.
Here is a link to what i have so far: https://googledrive.com/host/0B_qeG47GkI9CWjdLY0tXRHdROGs/LD27/

Controls are arrow keys to move and space to shoot.
When the timer hits 0 then something will happen 😛

Space TimeX10 – Postmortem

Yes the name is bad 😛 My game:  http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=14496

Now for my postmortem where i will tell what went right and wrong, good and bad.

Good

  • Finished the game in time. (Always a good thing ^^)
  • Graphics that are something else than squares and lines and circles (More on this on the bad part :P)
  • I did my best to realize my idea and it went pretty good.
  • Had a fun first day making the game.
  • I made a timelapse for first time 😀

Bad

  • The graphics went from okay to quite bad 😛
  • My code isn’t the cleanest…
  • Lost most motivation second day.

And my timelaspe.
According to my timelaspe i had 4123 images taken with an interval of 10 seconds and with some basic math the result is i have worked on the game on about 12 hours.

My top 5 so far

Now after i have played and rated 50 games i think it is time for my top 5 so far in no order

The only one
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=5496

What can i say. Good game, great graphics and music and got a good story and implemented the theme in a good way.

Duke Dashington
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=11391

Very good graphics and music, only problem, little to short. I want more! 😛

10 Seconds Before the World Ends
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=25182

Good implementation of the theme and fun.

Survival Madness
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=25108

Good, addictive and challenging game with good graphics and sounds

Boxer’s Seconds
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=1540

This game is here more of the way the theme was implemented (and the graphics) but it is still quite fun to play and has similarities with Papers, Please

And now for a shameless promotion of my game ^^

Space TimeX10
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=14496

All i can say, the name is VERY bad 😛

Any game you think i should play? Have i missed your favorite game? Or perhaps any masterpiece?

LD30

I’m in! (hopefully)

This time i will be doing Ludum Dare for my fourth time! I had some bad timing with the last Ludum Dare a couldn’t participate, but this time i’m sure i have time.

My tools i will be using, i think

  • Engine: Unity
  • IDE: MonoDevelop
  • Language: C#
  • “Graphics”: Paint.NET and/or Photoshop
  • SFX: Bfxr, cgMusic

First day done

So now my first day is ending. I managed to work maybe 5 hours in total today because of some things i had to do and watch a movie with my little brother.

What i have done is the basic idea and because i lack imagination i haven’t done anything directly fancy or advanced.

Basically what i’m doing is a top down shooter with 2 dimensions. The player is attacked by enemies from both  dimensions but can only attack 1 dimensions at the same time so the player has the abillity to change dimensions but so has some of the enemies.

So far my graphics are… squares just squares. (I wish i could draw good)

Here is a small video featuring 3 enemy types and switching between dimensions. The switching between dimensions really need some kind of feedback like a small explosion.
