When does ludum dare start?

Hello, i don't know when ludum dare starts. Please help, Thanks :D

Is there a ludumdare discord?

I want to know if there is a ludumdare discord? i think it would be fun to talk with the people who made games.

Unoffical Ludum Dare Discord

There wasn't a one, so i made one myself: https://discord.gg/tJ5Q9Y2 EDIT: it looks like there already is one, you can join it here: https://discord.gg/BZrj77

i am stressing out over animations

i need to make animatons, but i don't know if i will be able to make it all in time, i don't know what to do. Should i add animations, or finish polishing the game, i am so stressed out

My game Fish catcher

This is my game : fish catchers, you play as a fisherman who wants to catch fish, however the more fish you catch, the more sharks get attached. Have fun, P.S: sorry if the ui is a bit bad, i had to rush it to finish it on time

https://sinci1.itch.io/fish-catchers

A little promotion can go a long way

Well, i kinda want to promote myself, hopefully that is ok: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/my-game-fishcatchers please tell me what you think on the game page

Shameless promoting

Hey, can you try my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/my-game-fishcatchers its just a little promoting :I

Ludum Dare 45

Forgot to mention this yesterday, but I'm in!

This is quite exciting, it's my second ever Ludum dare and my fourth game jam, although I learned quite a bit since my last game jam, so I'm hoping that I will be able to make a more polished game! :D

Sadly I'm not going to be able to finish it on time

But that's okay because I learned quite a bit in this game jam and I had a lot of fun that I will hopefully incorporate in the next Gamejam! so, here is a sort of post-mortem/a list of thoughts of a game that isn't finished on time.

--Day 1--

So it all started when the theme got announced, I had no idea what I could make, so I brainstormed a bit, and by a bit I mean brainstormed for like 3 hours, and I didn't really figure out that perfect idea, so I just decided to roll with one of my ideas, which was a game where you start out as a pirate washed up on an island with nothing but a plank and your trusty flintknock pistol [I think this is good enough to qualify as "starting with nothing"], and then you would go on your plank and go out to sea, and attack enemies, and slowly but surely collect coins and then upgrade your ship's stats, and the unique thing was that there were different type of cannons you buy, like a fire cannon, bomb cannon, minigun cannon, and more. And as you can tell from this Idea, it had a really really big scope, especially for a solo, but when I started making it, I knew that there was a big scope, but I thought that I could finish it on time no problem [that obviously wasn't the case :p]. Anyway, by the time I finished brainstorming and making the GDD for this game, it was already around 11 PM, so then I started working a bit on the actual game, and made the basic controls, however, it was getting late, so I decided to go to sleep and wake up early tomorrow.

--Day 2--

So today, I woke up kind of early, at around 8:30 AM, so then I went to work on my game, and the day prior I made a list of things I would get done, the first thing on the list was to model the models [mistake right there, but I'll get into that later], so then I started modeling, I modelled ships, sharks, swordfish, cartoony looking humans, gold coins, basically a lot of things, and by the time I was done, it was already around 11 PM, so then I worked a bit on the actual game again, however, once again I wanted to wake up early, so I went to sleep.

--Day 3, The Final Day--

today I woke up a bit early but not as early as yesterday, at around 9:15 AM, then I went to work, and the first thing that happened was that I got stuck on working on a glitch that took me 2 hours to solve, that was definitely a hard hitter, but I kept on working, however, as time passed, I realized that I'm not going to be able to do it, I just started actually working on the game today, and I have to make

Different type of cannons

Enemy AI

Enemy Animations

Player Animations

UI

Economic system

Music

And a lot more that I can't remember now.

Anyway I had to do all that in under 10 hours, and that was just too much, that's when it clicked that I'm not going to be able to finish it in that amount of time, and alas, it looks like I won't be able to finish it on time, but I still kept working on the game to at least make it playable, and that's what I'm trying to do now, however when I finish it, I probably won't put it as a submission [maybe I might, but probably not], but I wanted to say that I learned some things that I will hopefully incorporate in my next jam, here are those things 1. I underestimated how much work is needed to do a certain things, from now on I will try and scope my game twice as smaller, because the worst things that can happen is that either I finish it earlier, and then I can expand the game, or that I finish it right on time, but in that case it's good that I scaled down the scope. 2. Instead of making the core game first, I made the models & stuff first, so next time hopefully instead of making all the models first, I will try and make a playable [and rather polished] game, then if I have the time, expand from that. 3. I could have to share my progress a bit more, I didn't really share my progress with other people, maybe if I did, I could have seen that I needed to work on other parts first. Well, that's the lesssons I learned for now, maybe I will figure out some other things that I did wrong, but that's my story for now. Thanks for reading, or if you just skipped to the end still thanks for clicking on my post :D or if you didn't click on my post still thanks for reading this bit at the end :p, and good luck if you didn't finish your LD game yet [or if you already did, then I wish you the best of luck with the ratings and the comments :D] oh and also I wanted to say that after the jam finishes I might post the models that I made since I am a bit proud since they turned out and if I finish it, a [very very very unfinihed, but] playable demo of my game

Since I didn't make it, here are some of the models that I made for my game.

Hey there, as the title says, I wasn't able to finish my game on time, however, I did make some models that I'm a bit proud of, so I wanted to share them here if it's not a problem, so without further ado, here are some of my models:

a Shark model, https://skfb.ly/6NPY7

this one isn't that good looking, but I'm proud of it because I'm not that good with anatomy, especially animal anatomy, so this one was a bit hard to make.

A Boat Model, https://skfb.ly/6NQnP

pretty basic and wasn't that hard to make but thought I'd share

A Raft Model, https://skfb.ly/6NQnO

once again this one wasn't hard to make, but I thought since I'm sharing why not share this one as well?

Main Characters https://imgur.com/a/cFAcTxR

That's the evil Capitan Redstache on the left, one of his crew on the right, and the main character, Capitan Bluebeard in the middle.

Swordfish enemy https://skfb.ly/6NQnM

That's one of the crew members riding the swordfish, but without the mustache.

Main Pirate Ship https://skfb.ly/6NPYu

this one was really hard to create, but in the end, I think it's the best looking one out of the other models, and I'm a bit proud of how it turned out.

I know that these aren't the best models, but I'm proud of them because I'm not quite that good of a modeler and I want to improve my modelling skills in general so it was nice to sort of try and flush out those skills for a game jam, since before I would usually make [not very good] pixel art for a game jam, but I'm interested to see what you think, what could I perhaps improve on? Thanks for reading :D

Ludum Dare 46

I'm in!

Forgot to do my "I'm In" post but I am in! I will be using mainly Unity & Blender  The theme is a bit confusing though, aren't you always supposed to keep it [the player] alive? :p

Is it allowed to take project from another code, [Question for compo & jam]

Hello there, so I am participating in the jam, and while making my game I took some of the code from my other games, mainly generic code such as: Pause systems, Health bars, Mouse movement, etc. so my question is: is this allowed? I am asking for both the compo & the jam, since while I am particpiating in the jam right now, next time I might participate in the compo and I'll probably use some old code for some generic things again.

This was a fun jam!

With only 17 minutes to go, I figured I wanted to write something down, as a sort of final message till the next jam, and so here's that final message: This was a fun game jam, I really enjoyed it, the theme was okay but there were some great games that came out of it, and overall I really enjoyed it, both making my game and playing other people's games, and I'm glad I participated. I hope your LD experience was great as well, and I hope I'll see you all in the Ludum Dare 47 !

Ludum Dare 49

Gonna try and start now...

10 hours left, but I hope I can do it... Thankfully last jam I did get a better sense of my ability, so I think I can make something very short... hopefully. Thank the Lord I do already have a game idea in mind, so all that's left to do is hopefully make it! Either way, best of luck to you all, peace out!

Whoops...

uh, totally forgot about the short time up until a few days ago, and afterwards I kept delaying until now... so I hate to say this... but if any of y'all got a bit of free time, I would appreciate it if you could perhaps take a look, and let me know what you think! It's a quick arcade game, takes about a few minutes to experience it [not a lot of content this year sadly], here's a screenshot: [apologies for the begging post, hopefully next year I'll plan out my time a bit better!] 392em10-21-2021/emTime-19-43-28_firefox.png
