That's all folks, I'll leave you alone now...

Joining the wordcloud-fun!

All the wordclouds I've seen look amazing and it's surprisingly nice to have all comments on your game visualized like that...

Anyway, this is 57 comments on my game page in a cloud.

A big thank you to @occultone who was the one who came up with this idea  His original post is here.

And of course if you are wondering right now: "What game could possibly have yielded a wordcloud like this?" Wonder no further! You can play "Throw" here!

Post-compo kinda improved release!!

I just uploaded post-compo builds for Windows, Mac and Linux with most of the complaints fixed...

So please come by and tell me what you think is still missing. Also if you haven't rated the game, please do so using the old version

Published!!

After initially drawing a blank on ideas and deciding to skip this ludum dare I came up with an idea for an idle game Saturday afternoon:

The goal would be keeping a light bulb on for as long as possible. The best part however would be the lamp itself which could be messed around with...

The most innovative part of the game would have been that the power is drained faster the more the computer's CPU is used. Sadly, as I made the game with Godot Engine, I had some difficulties writing and compiling a custom module to add that ability to the engine, because Godot wants to compile with SCons which needed MinGW which needed a bunch of packages to work, then godot needs Direct X to compile which is only available in a bundle with the Windows SDK, a 2.5 GB large piece of software and I don't have any more storage space on my computer...

After quite some struggle I decided I could not implement the CPU thing and instead focused on polishing the game. Hope you'll see some of that while playing and let me know your highscore

Post-mortem thingy?

Well, since this was my third ld (although I don't really count the first one because I only had about three hours to spend on the game) I figured it might be time for me to do my first post-mortem!!

What went well

Initially I couldn't come up with any good ideas for the theme, so I decided to skip this event. Later that day in the shower (seemingly THE place to have ideas) I thought of an interesting and new concept (at least for me ) : an idle game.

5a92.png

More importantly, to pass the time I'd implement a physics based toy: the lightbulb.

The scope of that concept left a lot of time for polishing the physics, graphics and sound design of the play thing. The actual gameplay came out a little too boring though.

What did not go well

Part of my idea was to make the bulbs power deplete faster the more the computer's CPU is used. Working in Godot I figured a custom module would do the trick. It turned out that to compile Godot with a custom module requires a lot of other software which, like the DirectX SDK is bundled in a WindowsSDK download of about 2.5GB!!! Sadly, my PC already os really low on storage, so I had to drop that. Not to mention that, after installing all that I'd still have had to figure out how to actually code that module, having never worked in C++ before

What I learned

-How to write custom modules for Godot (kinda... may come in useful one day though) -Writing shaders in Godot (check the shadow under the time display when the lamp comes near it) -I definitely need a more professional microphone than my phone

That's it for now, thanks for reading! Check out the game if you haven't already!

"Lapped" is published!

Finally, after needing just a little more time to finish and therefore switching to the jam, I have published my game "Lapped".

00.png

It's about racing the same track over and over again, but every lap, the last lap you completed is repeated by a new racer.

01.png

If that seems interesting to you, give it a try here!

In case you know of any games worth checking out, leave them in the comments and I'll try my best to review them!

No feedback?

I have received about six ratings in every category, but only two comments so far. As the feedback really is what makes this jam a learning experience, I'd like to ask you to try the game and rip me to shreds if you see something you don't like  No matter what you think, let me know!
