Prototyping eagle’s view

A prototype to simulate eagle crossing the forest.

I’m going to make another prototype and make my final choice between these two.

Art & sound assets almost done!

ld27_0825_3

I’ve spent the whole day making various assets for the game. The most time consuming part is 3d modeling and rigging.

I’ll take a nap and get up early tomorrow morning. To-do list:

  1. Modeling ghost
  2. More levels
  3. Visual effects
  4. GUI

October challenge accepted.

I’ll finish my LD#27 compo entry – Candle Man and publish it on Kongregate.

It’s a great challenge for me to actually FINISH one game in my spare time during October. So I’ll strictly follow the K.I.S.S rules:

Keep it simple, stupid.

I’ll spend more time purify the core of the game and polish the game’s FEEL. I won’t add too many levels into this game, but I wish each of them is interesting and challenging.

My LD#27 entry “Candle Man” has been ported to Kongregate

candle-man-header-slide

“Candle Man” was my LD#27 competition entry and won No.27 in overall. So, after the competition, I decided to spend more time to polish this game and publish it on game portal site.

I planed to release this game during the Oct challenge, but failed. Right before the deadline, our testers showed that the game levels are too difficult and confusing for new players. So I’ve spent another month to improve the level design and learning curve.

Now, the game is finally released! Although there are only 12 levels, I think it could still bring you a unique game experience. Hope you like it!

Finally, thanks to Ludum Dare!  As the rules and guide says:

there are no physical prize, the game is my prize!

Brief Intro

A candle is trapped in a dark dungeon. He must burn himself to illuminate the nearby environment and find the way out. But the candle light can only last 10 seconds, use it wisely!

Play it on kongregate

Finally, some progress.

I’ve been stuck in the brain storming stage for the entire 1st day. Because I wanted to find out some original ideas.

Now I’ve completed the basic game mechanics, no art, no sound, no levels, no story… The idea is: You are a hero living in a peaceful time. There is only one “evil” monster left for him to fight with – a zombie. He must use it wisely: hit and kill the zombie in the view of security camera deep in the dungeon, prove his value to the audience and earn money from the “show”.

I’m in!

As the 1st Ludum Dare of 2014, it’s a bit late compared to the past years’ events. But that’s indeed a good news for me, because I’ve completed the commercial projects during the first quarter and could join in this jam without any pressure!

My equipment: Unity, Blender, Photoshop, Audacity, Bfxr.

I’ll use my personal Unity script library as code base, you could download it [here]. I use it mainly for GUI, Localization and Tweening.

I swear I’ll make a simple game and polish it to the best this time! If I need some 3D assets, I think I’ll choose the popular “low-poly illustration” visual style. We tried this style in a mini game to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival last year, you can play it on Kongregate:

Slow progress

Progress is slow because I’ve spent too much time on prototyping. But I’m satisfied with the prototyping result. I’ll make a single-player game that makes you feel like playing a multi-player game.

The game starts with 2 players.
