Am I in the right place?

First timer here.  Long time web developer new to gaming. I have the Mount Everest of goals. I hope to finish in time.  Will be using Unity in 2D fashion. BFXR for sound, and don’t really expect to get any music done at all. But if I finish in time, I’ll consider myself a winner.

Clarification on working solo…….

I understand I have to do all the work myself.  Does working solo mean once the theme is revealed my wife can’t verbalize any ideas she may have about how to implement it in a game?  She doesn’t know anything about gaming or developing, but does take an interest in what I am interested in.

Do I need to tell her to keep any ideas to herself once the theme is announced?  Because I have told her about this competition, and she will have interest, even if only because I do.

Ideas don’t count as work. People get ideas from all over the place. If the art, sound, and code is all yours, then it’s a solo game.

Real World Gathering for Connecticut.

Little late for this go round, but would there be any interest for a Connecticut gathering for the next Ludum Dare?

In for round 2. #LD30 was my  first try.  Ranking was from #535 on Humor to #1176 on Innovation. I was only following a GameMaker tutorial, but for me it was a win just to finish in time.

Basic game this time around, but I won’t be using a tutorial, so that’s a new step for me. I’ve done fair share of web development, but I’m still new to gaming.

Tools:

  • Unity
  • Visual Studio for coding
  • Texture Packer or SpriteMaker depending on theme
  • Anything from CS5 but most likely only Photoshop
  • Bfxr for sound effects
  • Magix Music Maker for background (only if I have time, I refuse to use the song maker)
  • Audacity – to convert mp3 to Ogg

Only two goals. To have fun, and finish in time. Everything else is gravy.
