Ludum Dare 51

Let's start!

Good luck everyone! I'm really excited to take part in the jam this time.

I will mainly use the tools - Godot - Aseprite

Have a nice weekend!

First brainstorming phase over

Hello everyone

after waking up, seeing the theme, thinking of it... I finally came up with an idea I want to work on and set up the project! (title is of course subject to change...)

My ideas are about - Deck building (and using cards to summon demons/workers/...) - Base building (to gather resources for new cards/...) - And Defense (against the villagers who might have something against a demon horde next to their town) But we'll see what carries over to the game.

I am again using Godot (but sticking with 3.5, for web game compatibility) but this time I am working one a Linux machine (Opensuse). For graphics I will use gimp and I try to record a bit of the development progress.

I am looking forward to see what ideas you came up with!

And most importantly... Have fun!

Programming on main systems began

Hello everyone!

Nearly 24h have passed, and after a (sleeping phase and) day have passed, I first had a long brainstorming phase and hopefully came up with an interesting idea (and not the x-th clone of an interesting, but established game play loop).

I am more the "bottom_up" guy... and so the first 24 hours were for me... A lot of underlying techniques have been programmed, so hopefully I can implement the actual content more fastly.

Have fun!

Status Report #1

Hi everyone,

so, after 4 awake hours I think I finally have an idea I want to work on. After exploring rather obvious settings (I really love submarines...) I decided to try something a little bit different. Just to give you some rough sketch: It has to do with exploring the depths of the human mind and its hidden motives. I plan to include - Paranormal abilities - Preventing a murder - A Victorian setting - A séance!

I wish you a good start and a joyful jam!

Finished in time

And... It's done.

It was a bit stressful in the end and I was (of course) again way to ambitous... But I am rather happy with my small idea.

I could not implement everything that I originally came up with, but that is my way of enjoying Ludum Dare: Coming up with ideas, tinker around and getting something working done (with a lot of duct tape :))

I hope you had fun too! I am eager to see what you managed to create!

The beginning of a new project

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful start into the jam.

After some time for brainstorming, I came up with the following idea: - Theme: Bees - Game type: Pinball - Project title: Beenball

As usual I try to use the following schedule for the jam: - Day 1: Brainstorming and first technical stuffs - Day 2: Core Game, main features, Graphics... - Day 3: Polish, finalization and buffer time (although the last few years have shown me, that on that day there are still way more open points...)

This evening I will start with some technical stuff (Physics!) and I hope that I can show you some early screenshots. My engine of choice will be Godot again.

Finally I want to remind you: Don't overwork yourself and do breaks (this jam is about fun after all)!

Finished in time

I finished right in time for the compo (my first one, but the jam was not possible this year due to time constraints)...

I am actually quite happy with the result, although I usually tend to see the things that I did not manage to accomplish. And exporting, providing the source code, etc. takes again more time than I have anticipated.

Anyway, if you are interested, have a look: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/59/mini-mobile-network-operator

Some thoughts after the submission

Now it has been a few days since the submission deadline. This was my first compo (I did a few jams before). And I must say: I am relatively satisfied with the result. I would go even that far to say: It is probably the most polished game I did in any LD. I even thought, that with 24h additional hours I could have improved so much small, but subtile quality of life stuff...

But on the other hand: I would probably have planned differently if I had participated in the jam. I maybe would have started later or would have taken more time to decide on an idea before actually starting.

Or maybe the theme was just the right one for me this time.

Did you have similar experiences this time (or in the past)?

You can find my game here

I am very grateful for rating and your thoughts in the comments.

Video of the creation

This time I recorded my screen during the creation of the entire game. You can find the timelapse here (Although my perspective on that is obviously a very unique one)

After the jam

This time I decided to actually work on an improved version of the game. I guess thats a good sign... Of course I won't update the version here for now, so that you get the original 48h-Compo experience.
