LD32

Let’s Do This!

First LD and I’m nervous/excited!

Will be using Unity3D, Photoshop, probably BFXR, and Mountain Dew.

I’m using a similar technology stack…except Gimp instead of Photoshop and coffee and tea instead of Mountain Dew. :)

I made this after hearing the theme

Yesterday.

banana

It’s not the unconventional weapon. Though it is a banana slice.

I might not have my priorities straight here.

banana splice shurikens?

Sandwich Assassin

I’m almost done!

prtscrn

Adding in some cutesy animations and various other polish things. I’m not a big fan of making/playing puzzle games but I was eating a sandwich at the time of the theme announcement and the idea kind of just stuck. This is the first half of the game, the second being a reflex based game for cutting the sandwich up. Overall, I’d say it isn’t so bad, especially for the compo and the fact that I slept probably like 20 of the hours that we’ve had so far :)

(As you can see I’m not the best artist in the world. I’m still proud of my banana slice though)

I’ll upload soon, hope people can provide feedback!

Done!!!

I think I expected to be slower at coding, my game wasn’t nearly as ambitious as it could have been.

Oh well, I still have a finished game with a ridiculous name!

Ludum Dare 37

I’m in!

Starting a bit late… Whoops?

Me too lol I didn’t get an idea until this morning

Not bad for 5 hours?

This’ll be a 24 hour game jam for me. No big deal! I have a simple game idea and I think I’ll be able to get it done in time. Enemies can capture control points now and spawn more enemies within the room!

enemyCapture

I am not an artist.

Day 1 Progress!

Enemies swarm and make void portals with your furniture.

You can try to un-portal your furniture, and have a few screen-clears. You just want to live until the timer runs out.

Tomorrow I’m going to be focusing on getting visual cues up so that you can actually see your progress closing portals or casting the screen-clears. Then as stretch-goals: A more exciting death and victory screen, then revamping and animating Mr. Nameless Protagonist.

I have a beta if anyone wants to try it: link here

Good night and good luck, everyone!

I’m done!

Playable here

Pros:

  • I actually enjoy playing the game!
  • I finished with time remaining
  • I didn’t use an unreadable font like last time
  • No big surprises
  • Was easy to tweak difficulty

Cons:

  • Scoped way too small. Here’s a few things I didn’t add that in hindsight I wish I had:
    • Multiple modes
    • High scores
    • A more interesting intro
    • More dynamic enemy behavior
  • Limited feedback. I need to be more proactive with reaching out and getting feedback mid-dev.
  • Took me WAY too long to figure out a game idea for the theme.
  • No animations

Next Ludum Dare I’m going to focus more on polishing the aesthetic, or maybe work on a Jam game.
