Ludum Dare 46

I am in

It's been quite a while since I've participated in the LD, but psyched to do it again! Teaming up with my son, who is studying computer programming and game design in college.

We Are In!

I am in for another round of the Ludum Dare game jam! This time, in addition to teaming up with my son, I also have my step-son on the team. We are looking forward to a weekend of collective hijinks and game development.

Progress Animation

We're diving deeper into this idea, but progress is a little slower than I expected.GIF 4-24-2021 11-55-23 AM.gif

Done for the Day!

We enlarged the world map to epic proportions, and I feel like the progress has been slower than we planned. Here is the diver showing off collision while the fish poke around.GIF 4-24-2021 10-30-15 PM.gif

Good Morning Ludum Dare~

First thing today was to add the sailboat for our diver.GIF 4-25-2021 7-23-54 AM.gif

Very Close to Final, However We're Done For Today

After a crunch of several hours this evening, we put in all the vital parts of the game, axed some not-so-vital parts, and polished it nicely. I still have to make a background track, but we'll submit tomorrow for the JAM. Good night, LD community! You're awesome! GIF 4-25-2021 11-11-34 PM.gif

Prototyping Some Player Movement

I'm cementing my idea for the game storyline and mechanic based on this theme. I like where the creativity is taking me! But the bulk of the code will have to be tomorrow -- it's 11ish pm and my brain wants a good rest before crunching out algorithms and data structures in C++. Here is a rudimentary slopped-together movement prototype: GIF 4-1-2022 11-12-04 PM.gif I hope you all are feeling the creative sparks as well! Until tomorrow~

I'm In -- Doing Another Solo Compo!

This weekend my family and I are also celebrating my birthday, BUT I can't think of a more fun way to spend this weekend. Using my usual tools for game dev:

Coding in C++ with SFML 2.6.x
Using GIMP for graphics
SFXR & BFXR for sound effects
Abundant Music for music
Trello for dumping my brain

Brainstorming

Screenshot 2023-04-28 at 21-15-57 Ludum Dare 53 Trello.png I briefly dumped my initial ideas into Trello. Starting to think about each of these...

Reached That Finish Line!

I finished, the game is about a traveling preacher who is delivering a town from the evil oppression of demons. If you want to check it out, I invite you to the submission page

Really Looking Forward to this Event!

I'm striving in the Compo again for this LD. My usual tools -- with a new one, thanks to the folks on this board that pointed out Beepbox. * C++ with SFML 2.6.0 (in MSVC) * GIMP for the graphics * SFXR givin' the sweet sound effects * Beepbox because I always try to push into something new during Ludum Dare * Trello for keeping organized

A few changes happened since my last Ludum Dare. I updated SFML to the latest stable release, and am really enjoying the library. Also, I have been trying to study and improve my pixel art, and forcing myself to restrict my palette to a maximum of 32 colors. The final theme will determine what palette I choose. Here is a rich gallery of video game pixel art palettes and color theory: https://lospec.com/
