Third In

We (Nina+Tim) are in for the third time! It’s actually my 9th time in the LD but after 6 submissions in the compo category it’s the third time that we create a game together.
Working together was much better the second time during LD 30 when we created Hit and slide than the first time.

We will most likely use libgdx + artemis-odb for the programming part and illustrator for graphics and Spine for animations.

Good luck and happy developing. I enjoyed Baloo from a few competitions ago, and if my schedule allows it I’ll look forward to streaming your next game as well.

Idea came quickly

 

It felt weird to have an idea only one hour after waking up and reading the theme. But our game may actually be fun with lots of features and probably a lot of time for polish!

Nina did some sketches for some enemies and gameplay elements.

sketchingAwayProgramming is coming along nicely too!

One step at a time

We are getting somewhere. An hour ago we considered to switch from real-time gameplay to turn based puzzling. That’s LD!

10th Anniversary

I’m in once again for my 10th consecutive Ludum Dare! I didn’t miss a LD since LD24 and am as excited as always to make a game!

I will once again use my favorite Entity Component System Framework Artemis-ODB with libgdx, Eclipse IDE and universal tween engine as well as my base code which you can find here

Animation Day

I spent most of the day with animations and fixing bugs in the animation framework I use.
I didn’t get much done in terms of actual gameplay and that’s actually not so good because my scope was already very ambitious.
At least I am kind of liking how things look and even the animations aren’t as bad as they were in the beginning. Who knew humanoids are so difficult to animate! (I kind of did, but yeah …)
I hope I get a minimal version of the actual story implemented tomorrow.

Make a Backup NOW

Just a friendly reminder on the morning of day 2. Make a backup of your game right now and store it on a different device. Just in case! Takes only a few seconds and can save games (pun intended)!

Meanwhile I’ll go on and try to figure out what to do with what I created yesterday :) Have fun!

I totally messed up my 10th LD anniversary last time and didn’t finish a game for the first time in 10 consecutive LDs that I took part in since I started with LD#24.
I was pretty disappointed, especially because I had something going already, but well. I decided to do it again nevertheless :)

My significant other may join me and create graphics and animations in which case we will join the jam. If she doesn’t, I may do the compo dance.

I will once again use my favorite Entity Component System Framework Artemis-ODB with libgdx, IntelliJ (instead of the usual eclipse) and universal tween engine as well as my base code which you can find here.

Well … it is what it is, right?

I had some trouble focusing today and did some really(!) bad programming, so I decided to finish the day with at least some animations for my vikings.

But lets be honest, that’s what you would expect from a viking, right?. Hopefully I’ll be better tomorrow :)

Create backups of your work. If you haven't yet, go and do it right now! :point_up: Even if it's just dragging the project folder onto a second disc or storing a copy somewhere else. In 30 minutes your project file may get corrupted and you'll need it :scream: :heart:

Comment Notifications

I wrote a little webapp called LDNotify that uses the new API to check for new comments on your game and creates a desktop notification to let you know if there are any.

It should work in all modern browsers, and Microsoft Edge*. The notifications do not work on mobile, but I don't think that's a real use case anyway.

The tab with the page has to be open in the background for notifications to be triggered.

I find it useful while rating other peoples games, maybe you do too :)

Done for today

I actually didn't want to participate but changed my mind and spent a few hours on a shoot'em up. You get energy for hitting enemies and loose energy over time if you don't shoot anything. The more energy you have, the faster you shoot and the faster the scrolling/game goes. Energy will also be consumed by the use of special weapons :smile:

It's a shmup!

It's a shoot'em up ;)

I always wanted to create one. So this LD was the perfect excuse. I joined late but am very happy with the result. My goal was to make the game very "juicy" and to feel good. I also spend quiet some effort in communicating what was going on to the player. This is something I usually have difficulty with when my game ideas get somewhat more esoteric. I ran out of time for some tweaks I would have liked to make, but that's just how it is with game jams :)

But this one has a theme related twist too! You gain energy by hitting and killing enemies. You shoot faster if you have more energy, but the game will also be faster!
