First Ludum Dare :)
Been watching several YouTubers do these guess its time I give it a try. Unity is my go-to engine been using it for 5 years but if the theme fits I think I'll try practicing more java!

To help ease the butteflies building in my stomach I made this Trello page to show what I'm gonna do at what time. Hope you all like it and it inspires you to do the same :)
With this being my first Ludum dare naturally, this was my first slaughter round too. I'm a pretty open-minded person but some of the stuff people put on there is outright stupid.
Somethings I learned that maybe some others will take away is...
We only have 2 days I say this for the themes like "Battle Royale or AAA title guys legend of Zelda, pub or Minecraft were not made in 2 days...
So restricting The ones like "1 color" or "no controls" A. How is anyone gonna see anything on the screen if its all 1 color and how is it a game if there are no controls to make it function.
Some of the themes I liked 1. (My own) "Don't break the egg" I like this theme because it creates an objective and an object to build the game around while leaving it open to a variety of art styles.
"Escape The Room" Again I like this theme because its an objective not restricting the art, and leaving it open to anything this could be 3d, 2d pixel art, or heck even a text adventure.
"30-second game" I like this one because it keeps in mind that we only have 2 days to make this game. I can think of many small minigames to make from this theme.

In order to get excited about my first ludum dare I went ahead and challenged myself to make whatever game I could think to make in 2 days. Cubalance was the result.
Cubalance is a simple arcade game similar to stack where your goal is to balance as many cubes on a platform as possible while tilting the device.

I may have gotten too excited because due to craze of these types of apps on the mobile stores I'm actually publishing it so look for on the google play store in the coming days!
It is in beta testing with me, family and friends but once I get the all clear from everyone I will post an APK to the public so stay tuned!
I gotta say this is probably the hardest part for me. I actually love all these themes but unfortunately, only 1 may survive :(

Haven't really heard anyone talking of meetups yet I know the theme has yet to be selected but its good to plan ahead. I know its hot as hell outside here but if anyone wants to do a meetup in the general Phoenix area leave a comment. :)
The final round is upon us. Remember to stock up on your favorite foods and drinks and make sure your fuzzy little friends are taken care of. I've noticed a lot of people hating on themes this time but let's be honest those themes we don't like would honestly benefit us. They would cause us to think outside our comfort range and make something we never thought possible. No matter what theme gets picked remember to have fun and challenge yourselves to learn something new. :)

So glad to be finally doing my first Ludum Dare. Took me a while to think of a project for the theme but finally, here it is. Today I spent time drafting ideas and creating the core mechanics of my game. If anyone has any name suggestions please comment cause I don't know what to call it :)
The game is a puzzle you use cubes of various shapes and sizes to try and solve a puzzle to get one of the cubes to the end. I plan on adding more cube shapes tomorrow as well as more complex levels. I am a college student and finals are right around the corner this semester so I can't stay up till 2 am working on Ludum Dare like some of you can, but best of luck to everyone else I look forward to seeing others creations :)

This will be my second ever game jam with my first being a week from the Weekly Game Jam. Unfortunately, due to college finals falling at the same time of the last Ludum Dare I chose to focus on my studies rather than the jam. However this time I will be able to spare the time to do the Jam. I am moving into my new apartment on the 26th though so hopefully I will be able to get internet set up within a reasonable time. I will be using Unity this time again as I have been for the past 4 years. However with my Computer Science Major progressing I have been working on my own Game Engine that hopefully, I will be able to use later this year!
