working place

So I wish everybody good luck and lets build some games…
I still have nooo idea what i’m going to do. :)

Finally!

Finally i got an idea and now I’m gonna start working on it.
It’s gonna be a puzzle game where your mission is to discover all the map(unseen at the beginning) and there are some rules and item…

First game screenshot.

Here is the first steps in the game. Now you just can go and reveal the map, but it’s empty.
You already can try it here:http://www.planetnana.co.il/vladp//. I will update it some times.

A progress, i guess…

I have added even more stuff and friendly interface but the game it still pointless, the level generator is on the way. I better hurry up.
Here’s a screenshot:
Same shit
Try it Here.

Almost done…

Now I have added teleport system and you can travel throw maps…
I guess the game is going to be pointless until the end, so it’s just highscore game (maybe it’s fun too ;)).
I’ll hurry and and a not random generator and that’s all, here what is look’s like:
Teleports system
Try it HERE.
Please report broken link/bug/error into comments.

Finished!!

Finally I have completed the map generator and added a challenge so the game wont be to bored, try it here.
And here is my entry and some awesome screenshot from the game:

So I’m glad I participated in my second ld48, it was fun and good for some skills improving, hope to see you in next ld48.
Good luck to all the people that still working on their game.

Just a game I made

After the ludum dare 19 competition I made a nice game I called “Galaxy Conquest”, so if you interested try it here. Leave comments if you like it, or not, thanks.

Gonna start soon!

It’s already almost 4 days since miniLD #24 started, and I didn’t started yet but I’ve already got an idea and gonna start soon.

So here is my rules and limitation:
Theme: Fishing
4 Limitations: 2 colours + Game must end in 60 seconds +
All audio must be your own voice + Framerate cap at 5fps
3 Rules: All variable, class, function etc names must be palindromes +
Use a tool/language you have never used before + Game must be code complete in the first 3 hours, if not, must start over. NO CODING AFTER THAT.

I think I’m gonna make a simple short game, about fishing and mixing stuff. I still haven’t choose the tool/language I’m gonna use, probably Flash or Unity.

I’m not sure that “Pick’n’Mix” was meant to be one of the themes, bro. 😛

Finally Starting!

Finally it’s weekend and i can sit down and write a game! I’m gonna make a game I called “Tetris is now a fishing game”. I’ve changed the rules that I chosen before so here is my new rules:

Theme: Tetris is now a fishing game
3 Limitations: Game must end in 60 seconds +
All audio must be your own voice + Framerate cap at 5fps
2 Rules: All variable, class, function etc names must be palindromes +
Game must be code complete in the first 3 hours, if not, must start over. NO CODING AFTER THAT.

Hope to finish it in 3 hours.

Starting Over

I’m totally messed up the code :(, so I’m gonna start over right now, and at the end I’m going to submit all the versions of the game.

Finished the code

Took little more then 3 hours to do the game module but..nvm, so tomorrow I’ll do the sound, graphics and publish. Now sleep!

Finished minild-25!

you can find the game here

…or maybe…

Nice kick to all the collect-em-ups we’ve seen since the birth of videogames.

I’m in!!

It’s time for an other ludum dare! I really enjoyed the other two ludum dare I participated in, and now I’m looking forward for the next one and hope it’s will be even better. Due to many school dead lines I’ve decided to make a shorter entry of about 9 hours only, it’s will be another challenge for me.

So my tools are:

  • Java – eclipse, I will use a simple java 2d graphics
  • sfxr – for sound
  • Paint and GIMP

Good luck to everyone!!

Progress…

Right now, there is not much stuff I’ve done, but here is what I have so far: http://www.planetnana.co.il/vladp/ld20.html(Push the Start button). The game is still kinda missing the point of the theme, but we’ll see. PLEASE if you have anything to tell about the game, leave a comment, even if you hate it write it plz, thanks.

I’m out. :(

As I can see my game is not leading any where. It’s even not in the theme D:
So here is what I got so far.

See you next ludum dare!
And good luck too everyone who is still making their games, some of them just awesome!

c++ help!!

Hello!
I wanted to ask people that are developing games in c++ for a little help.
I’m familiar with the c++ language and studied it once, and I want to write a game in c++ in this ludum dare.
I’ve tried to install visual studio 2010 and 2008 but they both keep failing (due to some odd setup memory leak) and also I’ve tried to install eclipse++ but I had a problem with the libraries.
So can someone please give me a good c++ IDE that he is familiar with, or maybe someone familiar with my problems and can help.
Many thanks for help.

It’s probably worth persevering with VS, as it’s widely used and well-supported. A memory leak wouldn’t stop you installing, unless it actually ran out of RAM during the install. What is the error message?
05. Aug 2011 · 11:41 UTC
I liked Code::Blocks, but as Winterblood said, you should try to stick with VS, as it’s the IDE I had the least problems with.
05. Aug 2011 · 12:21 UTC
I agree with both the others. Code::Blocks and VS.
05. Aug 2011 · 13:40 UTC
Doesn’t seem to me like a particularly good idea to keep switching IDEs due to installation problems and minor technical problems like that. You will need to give us a bit more info on what the problems you’re having are though.
05. Aug 2011 · 15:51 UTC
I never really got an error, but I waited about 3 hours after the first ‘next’ button and the installation process took >1GB RAM instead of the 100MB RAM at the beginning, so I just killed the process. I’ve tried this with 2008 installation and got the same results.

The first time I’ve tried to install VS 2010 it run fine but in the middle of the installation my computer crashed and so the installation, since then any VS installation started to crash. I’ve found this problem familiar at the microsoft forum and they gave me an uninstall tool that should fix it but it didn’t work.

I personally don’t like it very much, but DevC++ has quite a bit of credibility.

Another c++ help

So I’ve finally successfully installed VS 2010 express and I’m ready to practice some c++. So this time I wanted to ask for a recommendation from people that are familiar with c++ and graphics libraries like allegro, openGL, directX…
So my question is: What graphic library should I use for a 2D game? What is better and why? etc.

My vote goes to SDL. I learned it after teaching myself C++ out of books and online tutorials. It should be even easier to learn for somebody who actually studied the language. Learning DX or OGL could also be beneficial in the long run, but making games with SDL is usually quicker than the others unless you have a repository of templates or classes you can use for the initialization code. Allegro may also be good for getting started quickly, but I’ve never used it at great length, so I can’t really comment on that.

SDL for 2D.

I agree, SDL is probably a good move, and I think you can use Open GL with it, although it’s a long time since I did anything with either…

I’m not familiar with SDL, but I’d recommend OpenGL over DirectX…
