LD26

I too, am in.

This weekend I will do a Ludum Dare for the first time! I’m using LibGDX and have no concrete gameplay ideas, but I think I’m going for a very minimalistic graphics style (think coloured squares and triangles).

Update!

This morning I started working on my very first LD game. I wasted some time this morning making the effect on the circles, but now I’m focusing on getting the gameplay out there. I decided on making very simple (minimalistic!) gameplay, where one button brings the ball towards you and another pushes it away, and having the ball crush your enemies. Or at least, that’s the plan.

Woo, progress!

I settled one a name (Gravitas) and nearly have some gameplay. I’m also quite pleased with how the game looks so far, it fits the theme nicely.

Time for an update!

Woo, debug rendering!

12 hours have passed since I’ve started working on my LD entry, Gravitas, so I thought it would be time for an update. In Gravitas, your goal is to smash your enemies with a ball that is moves towards you when pressing a button. Pretty minimalistic, right? I found out that writing my own code for collision detection between circles would be too much work, so I started implementing Box2D. When that’s done, I’ll focus on getting some fun gameplay, and after that maybe some sounds and other polish.

Gameplay!

Aw yeah, I’ve got my main mechanic working! Now I’m going to flesh out the gameplay some more, add some extra enemies and waves. After that, perhaps some sounds?

Gravitas update

Gravitas is really coming along now! I added health for the player and enemies, a wave system and two enemy types, so the game is somewhat fun. I greatly exceeded my expectations for this compo, so I’m quite pleased. What’s left now is some extra polish, maybe a few extra enemy types, and most importantly, a potato easter egg.

Shark Hard II: Shark Harder

This is my second LD entry, and I can’t say I’m dissappointed with the result. In the end I massively ran out of time, and finished it literally last minute, so a lot of planned features where missing. But at least it’s a somewhat complete product. Just like last time I spent way too much time on polishing and graphics, and because of that I didn’t have a concrete gameplay idea until +- 36 hours in.

Despite the stress at the end it was still an enjoyable experience building this silly game. Can’t wait till December 13th!

Save me from my poor planning skills

Hi all, Due to poor planning I left the rating of your games to the last minute, leaving me quite low on ratings so far. I'm busy trying to rate as many games as I can right now, and trying to rate at least 20 by tomorrow. I'd like to get enough ratings to be included in the results, so if you have 5 minutes, please play my game! It's playable in the browser and shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to complete. Thanks!
