LD17

First LD over for me

This was my first experience, and not the best weekend for me really, seeing as I was working all weekend. Must have gotten only something like 8 hours of work on the game. I’m still happy with what I’ve done, not so with the code but that’s another matter. I learned that Vector math is awesome and way better than working with trigonometry and angles. Oh and Linq is cool, too. The idea part is what really took me long, and in the end it wasn’t even my own idea I took. Oh well, I hope y’all had fun, I sure had, and may the best entry win!

Declaration of intent

I have been waiting for this! Last LD was my first one, and I absolutely loved it, but due to extensive work that weekend I didnt get much done. This time around it’ll be different!

Yes, I need to do a cleanup of all those papers. But not this weekend!

Game idea

2 hours in, I finally have a decent idea and some code down. I’m gonna be taking the theme quite literally. Can’t say more or else I’d have to kill you. This is also going to require me to do pathfinding, which I have never done before, and also some procedural map generation, which I happen to have some experience in, so all in all it’s not too bad.

7 hours of work

It’s been roughly 7 hours since I started working on my game, and it’s starting to shape up. I’m pretty happy about myself. I got the random level generation down and basic weapons. Tomorrow I do AI, and hopefully sunday if I have time more weapons and some polishing. For now, I figure 7 hours of sleep ought to do it.

I like that you’re coding outside in the fog somewhere!

ah, now I understand your avatar.

Idea formed up

I initially wanted to do something with JS and canvas, but I had an idea of a little game I wanted to do a long time ago which fits nicely this theme, but sadly, can’t be done in JS yet. So I’ll be using my ole C# and SFML2. Sadly though, I’ll only be able to put around 8 hours or so in it the compo this weekend. All I did tonight was try out the basic feature of my idea to see if it would work.  Here’s a mock-up, try and figure out what it’ll be:

JS can do a lot more than you think already….it just depends which beta browser used by a minority of people you’re limiting the final product to 😛

LD20

African Ludum Dare

Good day everyone,

I might or might not participate this time around. The problem with participating is that I’m currently doing an internship in Senegal, Africa, and as such, am not really comfortable with the work station, nor with the time available to make a game this weekend. However, if the theme really inspires me, I’ll try to squeeze a few hours in.

If I participate, I’ll try making it with the HTML5 apis such as Canvas and Audio. As for the software, Photoshop CS5 for graphics, sfxr for sound effects and Notepad++ for the coding part.

Probably in!

I’m most likely going to participate this time around. Missed the last LD because I was traveling and couldn’t come up with a good idea. I have a busy weekend ahead of me but if I can find a good idea with the theme quickly enough I might just try and squeeze my time to make it. If I do, I’ll be using JavaScript with HTML5 technologies. Always wanted to do a roguelike, too, so if it fits the theme that’s what I’ll do.
