I’m in!

I’m an absolute newcomer to LD, but I figured I’d try my luck. Hopefully it will go well. As for my tools:

Code: Haxe + Flixel
IDE: FlashDevelop
Graphics: Adobe Illustrator CS2 if I go with vector, not sure what if I go with pixel
SFX: BFXR, maybe Musagi

Minimalism?! Well…

In accordance with the theme:

Themes in last round: 20.
Chosen theme: the worst of them.
Ideas: 0.
Motivation: also 0.
Projected outcome: failure.

Slow progress…

6 hours are already gone, and the concept I will (probably) go with is only taking a distinct form now. At this point, I’ll probably begin coding and let the concept evolve while I’m working on its technical aspects… wish me luck, I’ll probably need it.

Good luck!!

Inspiration strikes!

Took long enough, but thanks to some caffeine and a quick shopping trip (neither directly related to the concept), I finally have a decent idea I can work with. Hopefully, I’ll be able to present a prototype soon, but for now, the only thing unveiled shall be the title: Chao Ab Ordo.

Haxe: a bad decision

Just when I thought I have everything carefully outlined and am ready to do this, I had to realize that I just can’t get Haxe to work… I’ll give it a few more attempts, then switch to good ol’ AS3.

Chao Ab Ordo – disco mode!

So, after the initial technical issues, I have finally managed to implement most of the game logic. To celebrate it, I think it’s time to reveal the concept I’ve been working on.

Initially, the game grid is in a state of perfect, uniform grey order. But time and time again, some tiles fall into chaos. The player’s task is to move around the grid and restore order to the tiles. Should a tile grow too chaotic, it will burst, rendering it impossible to restore and making the neighboring tiles more chaotic. The game goes on and on in this manner, until eventually, the entire board is destroyed. As the title says, it’s a game of Chaos Out Of Order. A simple game, yes, but I couldn’t afford to rack my brain for any better concepts.

And since showing the board in its grey starting state would be boring, have a screenshot of delightful, colorful Chaos:

Disco Disco Good Good!

Chao Ab Ordo – functional prototype, first day’s results

I swear it wasn't Mondrian-inspired...

I swear it wasn’t Mondrian-inspired…

Prototype available HERE.

TOOLS USED:
– Code: AS3 + Flixel
– Graphics: (What graphics?) AS3 built-in drawing functions

TODO:
– create a menu
– add background
– add sounds and maybe music

KNOWN BUGS:
– sometimes when you disable a block, it doesn’t turn grey, just gets stuck with its current color
– the cursor doesn’t vanish on Game Over; I have no idea what’s wrong with that. I tried using “visible = false”, “exists = false”, even “remove(cursor)”, but nothing works.

And so it comes to an end.

This one-and-a-half day, my first LD entry, has proven quite exciting, if at times frustrating. And while pretty amateurish, HERE is the game I have managed to create in this short time. It lacks certain things it could use (sounds, for example), but at its core, it’s playable, and I couldn’t think of a way to improve gameplay further. So, that’s it from me this time.

To those still working, best of luck, and to those already done, have fun playing!

I’m in!

This is going to be my second LD, but that one previous time doesn’t make me any less excited and maybe a little nervous. The themes look decent so far, save for a few uninspired ones; hopefully we won’t have another Minimalism. As for my tools:

Language: Haxe, unless I chicken out and fall back to AS3 as I did last time. Either way, going to use Flixel.
IDE:
FlashDevelop.
Graphics:
Not sure yet; probably Photoshop CS2 or GIMP.
Music: LMMS or Musagi, if any.
SFX: BFXR.

More Ludumdare just means you know the horror better. Good Luck

Meet Mr. Square!

screen1

Meet our intrepid hero, Blue Square! (birth name: Place Holder) He may look plain, but he can run, jump, and even wall-jump! Also, should he touch the red “mine” above, he will suffer an untimely death (;_;7). And he does not even suspect what perils await him once I proceed with development…

Third time’s the charm!

In other words, I’m in again. Last time I had to drop out; let’s hope fortune will be kinder to me this time. As for my tools:

Engine: Unity/C# or Flixel, depending on how much time I get to practice with Unity this week.
Graphics: Blender if 3D, Pickle if 2D, plus Photoshop CS2 or GIMP for additional stuff.
Sound: bfxr and OpenMPT or Musagi.

P.S.: we need to slaughter more. “Free 2 Play”, “Bieber 4evar” and “downvote me”, really?

Ah, the wonders of sleeping in, and waking up to everyone working on their games left and right and the theme turning out to be the most mind-melting of the final 20 (as per usual)… I need sugar and caffeine.

Ludum Dare 37

I’m in!

…for what it’s worth, seeing as how many times I wound up dropping out. However, unlike those times, this time I’m already all warmed up and ready to go! My tools will be:

Engine: Godot
Graphics: Aseprite, Krita, maybe Alchemy for brainstorming
Sound: BFXR and Bosca Ceoil
