12 hours is really not much for a ludum dare challenge but i had this seemingly fun idea for a very simple network based game so I thought I’ll give it a try. All network related code is done and working, so I’ll have roughly 6 hourse left for gameplay, graphics and sound and then another hour deadline buffer.

I started really late, so I had just about 12 hourse all in all. Not ideal for my first ludum dare contest, but still fun!
The game is not nearly as polished as I would have liked it to be, mainly the bots are not as intelligent, there is only one of 5 planned challenge types and the visuals are still placeholders but at least everything seems to work alright!
The game connects you to an online chatroom where you have to try not to get banned. In the original version I planned that there would be a score of human players and one bot where the human players have to find out which one of them is the bot as fast as possible. I had to change that though as it was unlikely that I would get more than one or two human players at a time. Now it’s just a chat populated with bots and you have to try to stay in as long as possible. Not really fun and definitely not finished but it was all I could do in 12 hours.

Last time I couldn’t participate for the whole event and it has been difficult to keep this Ludum Dare’s weekend open as well. But I prevailed and plan to make the most of it. I will be streaming for the whole duration on twitch.

My first full time ludum dare and 40 hours of sleep drived work frenzy later I can honestly say that I’m very happy with the way it turned out. I got in everything that I planned from the beginning, including sound, music, ending cinematic and easter egg!

Mayoran is a mining / construction game where you order around a couple of villagers. If only it weren’t for that greedy mayor, it could be such a peaceful game!

… in and hyped for my third ludum dare! My plan is to score better than last time in every single category and if that doesn’t work to score better in at least one category and if that doesn’t work to atleast somewhat finish the game and if that doesn’t work to at least have fun failing!
Tools similar to the last time as I have a pretty good workflow by now.

I was very close to quitting on saturday evening but a creative night of sleep kept me going and now it’s a somewhat finished experience. Note to self: It was a BAD idea to only work with ugly placeholders for the first day, it really took a toll on my motivation. Hence the name of the game.
