Ludum Dare 48 April 24–27, 2021

I'm late, but WOW, thanks for the 41 rates on DRYVER!

Idk how you guys do it! Been a bit busy with life stuff this jam, so unfortunately I haven't been able to rate as many games myself as I would have liked. Still trying to get around to some more before the rating period is over.

Huge shoutout to all the people who have played and rated DRYVER already! Really appreciate everyone giving it a shot and posting feedback. We love to hear what you have to say.

If you haven't played DRYVER yet, don't worry, there's still some time!

Added more "depth" to Me:Tree ;)

I added background landscape to . It adds definately more depth to the game. It really feels high up if you manage to grow high now. Actually you always could grow into space, it just feels more epic now. :)

As you can see I also added some kind of unprofessional tree moving in the wind animation. Still doesn't feel right but it is a start. ;)

Also there are a few cute tiny bees flying around now. Maybe they will give you some extra points one day, if I manage to implement some kind of blooming mechanic. :)

I hope you like the improvements I made! Have a good time. I am going to rate a few games now.

Lessons Learned

So it's been a couple weeks since my first ever Ludum Dare experience, and I got to say, I learned a few things that will be helpful for myself in the future.

Firstly, I think that accessibility it crucial since it actually let's the players play your game. I screwed up with my canvas size in my Unity project, and so the game could only be played on one screen size, which is my screen size. It also meant that the game had to be played on full screen, and couldn't be played on the small WebGL window. I will keep that in mind when developing my entry for LD49.

Secondly, focusing on more user friendly aspects might be helpful, rather than polishing everything right away. I think that polishing could be used to make things more user friendly, but I think when designing the concept for my game, user friendliness should be a key thing to remember.

Thirdly, I think a great soundtrack and sound effects can really tie a game together, and I feel I missed the mark on that one this time around.

If you've taken the time to read this lengthy thought, I appreciate your time, and if you wouldn't mind leaving your own lessons you've learned this time around, or even previous LD's in the comments for some nice advice, that would be great!

I hope everyone had a great time, and I will be looking forward to participating next LD.

P.S, don't forget to check out my LD48 entry, BLU, You won't regret it!!!

VR Games?

Any VR-only games that need help with ratings? Post in the comments and I'll make sure to rate.

If you have a Quest (or another stand-alone headset, but untested) feel free to try Final Society.

Thank You!

Thank you for playing my humble little game. Thank you for providing me with feedback. I apologize for not being able to play everyone's games. I figured that I would be banished to obscurity, but I have 17 ratings despite myself! I only need three people to play and rate my game to qualify! That's pretty cool in my book of accomplishments. I made a game for Ludum Dare!

Change log for Deep Dive

Hi! This Ludum Dare 48 happens to be my first Ludum Dare, and I made a puzzle/precision platformer mix called Deep Dive. In this game, you have to dive into The Deep Sea Temple to fetch the treasures, but the water will keep pulling you up until you carry the treasure with you.

I received a lot of feedbacks around the game during this play + rate session and I'm very grateful for that! People found some bugs and suggestions which I ended up implementing. Some of which are: 1. Duplicating player character after death; and 2. The player character keeps on jumping if the player holds the jump button (which is undesired in platformer games).

I actually want to change some of the game's levels as well giving it some bigger changes but I'm not sure if that's allowed during this session (most probably I will change it after the play + rate session ends). In any rate, If you're interested, please be sure to check out the game here! Cheers!

Try out Deep Drive

A smooth drive in a cave.

Greetings from the Depth (Devs)!

Last weekend we celebrated our achievement. We were able to have a pint (or three) at a pub in the London area. Did you celebrate as well? It is very important to celebrate! :) IMGem20210502/em152347.jpg OhNO2.png

Thank you guys so much for almost 50 Ratings! :D

Did I just became best friends with my game??

Monster08.png

I kept on fixing some minor stuff on the game and kept on polishing even more stuff and am having alot of fun doing it. I have done some games before but this time it feels kinda different, it is like slowly falling for my game. I know its not the best game out there, but I think is the feeling everyone should have at some extent, where we feel happy for what we have done.

I know this is just a small crazy rant on gaming, but I do hope everyone enjoyed maked their games and playing the ones of others. Here I have a new version of the game, with some minor details fixed and improved. Hope you all enjoy it and keep on the good work, bringing more enjoyment on this!

I need 5 rates to reach at least 20 ratings

I will be very grateful to receive your feedback, and also I will give feedback to your game!:)

A Ludum Dare 48 Post Mortem

i wrote a post mortem for my game Deeper Faster based on users feedback! you can read about it here https://creatusmondest.medium.com/ludum-dare-48-a-post-mortem-a725bb0ee5ae

Can't find a game.

I found a real card solitaire game last week, giving only a rules pdf of how it worked. I downloaded it and read it before playing, then I found that I had no deck of cards at home. I bought one today, but can't remember exactly the rules nor the name of the game, and haven't found the ld page in my history. Anyone remembers which game this is? I would love to play it. Thanks!

Need 5 more ratings!

Check my game out! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/research-and-rescue

How do you get coolness points?

This is my first game jam and people have only seen my game on two days. Yesterday, when I made a post about this, and on the first day it was up. I have played and rated games, yet I have no karma.

Fifth Call: Playing Games...

Do you want me to play your game and register my game session on my YouTube channel?

Mark me below saying “yes, @gustavo-christino“ (to inform that you agree and allow me to do this), also leave the link to your project (this will make it easier for me to find you to play).

It’s a new channel and the content is in Brazilian Portuguese, however, for these videos, I will make comments in English (at least I will try, hahahahahah).

Lt. Max Caliber wants YOU to listen to his report from his latest case!

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/werecops-archives-case-of-deeper-excrement

Max Caliber was a rather normal and boring man until one day he was bit by a policeman... and next full moon, strange urges overcome poor Max and changed him to a servant of Lady Justice who protects innocent and fights against crime. Now as Lieutenant in Special Affairs team with codename "Werecop" he's the one to call when the crime get's too weird and dark forces are threatening the peace, because only he, with his super abilities of supernaturaly strong sense of duty, incredible sense of empathy, ferocity of wild beast, genius-level mind and sixth sense that seems like madness to ordinary people, but helps him see what others would miss...

There's a webgl build, windows build and youtube video recording one playthrough 35 minutes long, full of my raspy voice and Max's madness. It's a short voiced interactive story, although the interaction is rather limited - sadly, proper branching and more interaction was first thing that had to go out and I had to keep the story cut to the bone to make it in time (which I didn't anyway by few hours and had to post it in the Jam). So - if you've got half an hour to spare, the case report waits for you!

I always thought that as a last resort I can always make an interactive fiction for Ludum Dare. Never did. This time I was pretty much sure I'll try it, depending on the theme. The story was born from a question of my girlfriend when I was brainstorming about Deep and Deeper - "Well, what else can be deep?" I answered in a raspy batman-like voice of Lt. Caliber (that made my throat hurt for another day) "The shit I was in was so deep that the stones I was walking on was shit compresssed by the pressure to diamonds." Which became an opening line of a parody to supernatural detectives. Well... it started as a parody anyway, but during the first scene it became something bit different and I'm very hapy with the resulting story. I'm less happy with all the times where I misspoke or mispronounced something (which I mostly noticed only now when I was making a recording to youtube), but I was finished with the story and some limited interaction few hours before the end of the compo - and I underestimated how much time it will take to record resulting 40-45 minutes of audio in several different voices and especially cutting it to correct pieces, so there was no time to do a proper record of every line. Too bad. I also originally wanted to add some outrageously bad pictures drawn with crayons (as is hinted in the story at the end), but that plan went quickly out of the window. I'm now thinking that just the text and voice works better anyway.

So... if you've read all the text above... could you spare some time to read / listen to the text in the actual game? :) I could use some rates. I also finally have some time to do some rating of my own - if you've got an interesting / weird game, drop a link in the comments:)

Bee Beesness "full" version released! (Itch)

Thank you all for your great feedback! We've just finished working on a big update for our jam game following the feedback received here. There are still some features and details we think could be cool to implement, but we will probably work on some other projects before the (potential) next big update. Until then, hope you guys enjoy it! :bee:

The LD version is still playable in browser and in a separate exe and will continue to be until the voting is over, so if anyone wants to rate the game, make sure to rate based on the jam version. :)
