Ludum Dare 54 September 29–October 2, 2023

Finished, but not finished

Screenshot 2023-10-01 200923.jpg Sadly due to time constraints and how I started late, I couldn't go all out and get everything I wanted from my ambitious project. But so far I've learnt so much more than I originally expected from how fast I was rapidly developing, I was going from model to developing and running relevant code within minutes.

I'm impressed of what I have so far, but I know it could be so much better, but I decided for certain I was going for the Compo as I want the challenge, even though the Jam has enticed me more than once.

Anyways I'll soon be publishing the full game, hope you guys try and like it.

sorry but I just love this aesthetic

there's something magical about accidentally corrupting your NES's RAM by not adhering to timing rules and being presented with glorious, beautiful abstract art.

maybe we should just abandon our original art direction and go for this instead :D

Day 2 Progress: Calamari Odyssey

Core gameplay loop, graphics, and most of the audio (still a few placeholders) are done!

You Are Beach Cop Sign! First Finished PICO-8 game!

Finished my first ever PICO-8 game! You play as a sign with rules written on it, and you enforce those rules on the beach. Remove the rule breakers to keep the beach under the max. occupancy limit!

Looking for some feedback

Fellow Ludum Darers, which of these UI designs do you prefer?

So Far!

20231001_1.gif

Most gameplay related stuff is in. Next up title screen and settings then to see what else I can add in remaining time.

What I've got so far

I'm using some unused assets I made back in July for this one. so call this a prequel to my bon-bon platformer, its about a little gumball guy who is stuck in a giant cake maze! I don't have sprites for him yet but hopefully i will have at least 3 levels done by tomorrow! imageem2023-10-01/em213049939.png

Had a plan, but got stuck at level design .. Still in the fight though!

After spending two days on a project, I realised I had no idea how to do the level design and got stuck. I then spent too much time trying to implement a procedural level generator, but forgetting all the other things related to the game loop.

But I a stroke of genius (or madness?) gave me a quick improvised plan B. Licking my wounds, but not out yet! Time to play with some physics!

DevLog #4

90 Minutes to go (for Compo)! Got the game up and running, created 13 levels. Not too much, but enough to be played. Got some bugs fixed, now it's time for last minute optimization and preparation of the game page. And to fix that annoying music I created... I don't know why I even put it in there...

In the mean time: Main Menu! (Yes, I suck with logos  ) superlowmemoryrobot.png

Temporary Name Team. Smoothing the corners

Labor made a monkey into a man. And we finally made a monkey. And stage 4. Let's get to the UI of the main screens.

Muscle-shirts are also getting a human look, thanks to our labor.😄

Gnome in the Abyss!!!

Finally managed to finish a COMPO!!! There's always a lack of time, and I end up doing JAM hehehehe. This time, I managed to make a small game and complete the COMPO. Here are some screenshots of the game. Thanks, everyone!!!

Not fine for combo

Decided to try for Jam... as my game is not ready for combo.

I clearly miscalculated how hard it would be to do the logic for simulations. I had no idea on the logic so I've been trying to play test and come up with something... mostly you just lose points

Here is the screenshot from my current state: ld54-simulationsemare/emhard.png

It also has some nasty bugs... probably mostly because I had no idea or time to think how to do stuff... and I just made stuff up on the fly. Memory management, signals, and tweens seem to have been the hardest in the engine from the stuff I have used.

Well hopefully I can fix it tomorrow after work to some condition for the Jam.

At least I'm really happy with the music... and wished I could have more time with the SunVox.

Heron's Subway

... Hey, take this:

Because games don't like when you limit them within the space of the .EXE file. ...
