Ludum Dare 54 September 29–October 2, 2023

1 hours left, I finally have a game loop!

PHEW! I thought that I would not be able to make a game out of this thingy... It's barely playable but at least there's something to achieve now.

Almost done

There's still some finishing touches left - music needs to be integrated, we need some outlines and a few more assets; and maybe a back-button and some volume controls. But we're pretty pleased with what we've got and how our little experiment plays =) Screenshot 2023-10-01 at 22.56.08.png Screenshot 2023-10-01 at 22.56.15.png Screenshot 2023-10-01 at 22.57.49.png Screenshot 2023-10-01 at 22.58.26.png

JUST FINISHED AND IM HYPED!!!!!!!

I just finished my newest game CASHBLAZER and i am so hyped for it! I hope it does better then my previous entry PigeonPost! And i cant wait too play all the masterpieces y'all made ^_^ i hope everyone had as fun of a jam i had!

A second laborious day !

Well, coding puts a strain on my nerves. It's the second day, I have a game that works correctly, but the point counting system doesn't work, and neither does the menu. I think if I manage to get them working tomorrow, I won't have time to put sound into the project. But I would be happy, my goal being to make a somewhat functional game. That way, year after year, I would have a history of my games. If I have one lesson to take away from my first LD, it's that it seems much more fun as a team. Have a good night, and I hope I'll be able to play as many games you all made as I can !

Completed my very first COMPO!

That was a fun time. I managed my time well! Would have liked to make more levels, but so it goes.

Best of luck to everyone still working!

power cord failing at the last moment

my laptop power cord is suddenly failing me (going on and off) so i better upload whatever i have now and then get to finishing all the final touches!

Trash Truck Hero has arrived!

Didn't quite get all my todos (not fire hydrant to run over, sorry), but managed some music and sound effects! Whew, a big push and lots of fun! Hope people enjoy it.

Sadly no high scores leaderboard, but hopefully people will publish their scores!

Can't wait to see what everyone else has made!!

We are getting somewhere! (Custom Game Engine)

There are definitely pros and cons with making your own game engine from scratch during one weekend. One con being it's so time consuming! :P On the other hand you get really happy when you manage to make something work. Here is some of our progress, hopefully we will manage to make some sort of game before the jam ends. We currently have support for sound, some physics and graphics!

Fun Fact: The house in this GIF is procedurally generated!

even though i started a day late, i did manage to finish 5 levels of increasing difficulty. pretty happy with how this one turned out, i hope you enjoy the eccentric gameplay.

Fast paced game with grapple hook. Can't believe we've finally did this!

🪝🪝🪝 Hi! We're ready to present our game! You can try it right now on itch.io and you can download its Windows version.

It's been such a fun journey to work through the weekends with friends sitting in one room, spending these two days in a row listening to System of a Down and Taylor Swift while thinking and talking games! It felt great coming up with a concept, developing art style and making the game. Can't wait for the next Ludum Dare to repeat it!

I lost.

I feel incredibly sad posting this and I know I'll feel even sadder after I wake up tomorrow and feel even more empty. I don't know what happened to me this LD, I always join the event and make something no matter how difficult the theme is or how pressured my time is, I even joined once 2 days before some important final exams like it was no problem. and I sure don't discriminate between themes nor would I ever quit because I didn't like a theme, I don't mind a challenge and I certainly didn't this time.

but.. just like everyone else I came up with a bunch of ideas at the start and I like one about "no space in the brain for your last 2 brain cells", a silly game made out of minigames of your last 2 braincells where you play as one of them trying to beat the other in minigames like sword fight, racing, gunfight etc all with a silly touch to them, it sounded genius in paper, and I really liked the whole thing, but once I got to work I realized that I have, for the first time since I started participating in LD bit more than I can chew..

you see, I usually spend all 3 days none stop (up to 15 hours of work per day) working on my games, it's usually a tedious and stressful process for one person to make everything from coding to design, art, music and sounds, but I always manage to power through and make it just in time. this time however I implemented a bunch of interconnected minigames which were not difficult to code on day 1, but on day 2 which is usually the art/sounds day. I realized that there is no way I can finish everything in time, I had to visit my grandma for half the day which is something I do pretty much every sunday, and have done in other jams, but this time was just different.. when I came back, I realized I have no time to finish the checklist for today, and given that I still have more coding and bug fixing to do I just decided on the hard reality that I have screwed myself from the start, I can't even remove minigames since they are in a sense connected not to mention all the coding work that I've already done.

in the end I'm not sad about quitting, it's ok to make mistakes as long as I learn something, and I totally learned things about scoping and finally got caught after getting away with big scoped games for too long, sure I accept that. what I'm sad about is my friends.. every LD event I like to check on some of my friends where we play each others games and get to hang out a little bit, and also some twitch streamers that I visit from event to event, we usually just greet each other affirming that it's been a while and I get the joy of seeing them firsthand exploring ld games including my game and falling for my funky design lol even finding bugs and exploits that I never knew existed. it's so much freaking fun! and I love it a lot, but I feel like without a game it won't really be the same, I can still hang out with friends and play their games but it feels.. empty.. I don't know it just doesn't feel right. truth be told I haven't had a single real life friend in the past 3 years and I can use all the social stimuli I can get lol, it sounds like the most pathetic excuse to be sad about missing out, but here we are ffs. I feel like shit, maybe it's just sleep deprivation or staged of grief or whatever, I'm going to bed.

To future me: never overscope again, the risks don't outweigh the rewards.

Memory -- Compo entry completed

I've completed my compo entry, "Memory". There are a few bugs, but nothing game-breaking.

Choose which memories to save at each milestone of your life, and try to live a positive life overall.

It is DONE

The first complete compo game in Godot and in VR as well. Went down a deep rabbit hole with some mesh generation for the runes and I'm still not happy with it but I learned a lot about Godot.

Post compo I would like to maybe put some polish on it and port to quest but for now I just want bed

Push or fall

We tried several prototypes. One of them seems to be better. Hopefully it will be as fun as we imagine.
