LD29 April 25–28, 2014

Ready to hear the theme!

I’m in again this time. I’ve participated in a few but the last one in December was the first one I completed. It was quite fun!

Last time around I used C++/SFML. As much as I love coding in C++, I don’t think it’s that great for a 48 hour competition. It’s a lot harder to rapidly iterate when you constantly have to compile and link it. So, here’s what I’ll be using:

Java/libgdx

eclipse/intellij… still trying to decide. Want to learn intellij shortcuts better without changing it to eclipse settings so I might do that.

paint.net

A few sound fx/music generators if I have time.

Going for it!

I’m gonna be giving it a shot for Ludum Dare 29!
I’ll be using the following:

Engine – Game Maker
Language – GML
Graphics – Paint.NET
Sound/Music – FL Studio

As I am still relatively new to this whole thing, my only goal is to complete the game and have fun. Hopefully things go well! :D

So I’m in!

I’m in for the third time. Hope I can create something playable without too many bugs.

After one Ludum Dare using Pygame and another one using vanilla JS and canvas, I will now use libGdx.

IDE: IntelliJ

Graphics: Photoshop / Illustrator

Sound: bxfr / maybe SunVox if I have enough time

So gl hf everybody 😉

In

I’m in for my third LD and I will use haxepunk.

Good luck everyone :)

I’m in

Getting ready: Here are my tools

I’m mostly writing my own tools based in HTML5/Javascript.

In preparation, I’ve developed an vector animation tool (very work in progress) which I’ll be building on throughout the course of the competition.

Woo! Good luck! I code in Netbeans using Java. 😀

Yeah, Ludum !

Hello everyone !

I participated to 5 LudumDare and finished 3 of them. I’m pretty fluent in Python so I used it with Pygame at every single edition. Now, I want to discover something else, and what is better than LudumDare to do that ?

I’d many hesitations, I tried to setup a working Monogame development environment under Linux, but it never worked. But after one previous humble bundle weekly sale on which Haxe was the honor guest, I wanted to learn more about it.

So, I’m in :

Language : Haxe

Framework : HaxeFlixel (big hesitation with HaxePunk)

Graphics : Usually I use KolourPaint, but now I’ll try Gimp.

Music : I hope I’ll have some time to try to do something with LMMS

My IDE will be Vim + Tmux. I created the most awesome .vimrc in the hole world which interact perfectly with Tmux : http://docs.bernery.eu/ide.tar (you just have to untar it in your home)

Oh, and you already notice it but, I’m french. My plan ? Wake up at 3AM to see the subject, go back to sleep, wake up at 9AM with great ideas, and going to school to develop a game !

Good luck for everyone !

Last minute I am in

I am still having a big headache and am on fairly strong painkillers, but whatever! I am in again! After the last LD being my most successful entry ever and me still playing my last entry every now and then, I don’t want to miss out on what I can create this time. On the tool-side, I will go with something new, replacing my good old XNA with:

  • Game Maker: Studio
  • GIMP
  • SFXR
  • Famitracker

Depending on what I end up making / needing, I might also use the following:

  • Aseprite
  • Audacity
  • AutoTileGen
  • Spriter (Which I literally never used so far)

Happy Coding everybody!!!

Dad’s First Attempt

I won’t have any real time to do this except at night after my daughter goes to bed. I might be able to pull a late-nighter if the pressure gets on. So really it’s the ultimate challenge: can you make a game in 8 hours?

Expect hasty pixel art, bleeps, bloops and the simplest mechanics I can reasonably implement to get a point across.

I will likely be using either Gamemaker or Haxepunk. I use Pixen, Tiled, and Autotilegen for graphics. Renoise or Garageband for music/audio. Though to save time I might just go with vector graphics and primitive shapes.

Go dads!

I’m in!

Ummm, guess I’m supposed to make a post here. I’m entering the competition, whether I finish or not is another matter.

I’m using:

-Stencyl

-GIMP

-Fruity Loops

Oops ! I’m in !

Hi guys ! I’ve been preparing for this LD but forgot to check in :/

I’m Lo-X, I’m a french programmer that try to make some small video games on my free time, when I have some :p

This LD will be my third one. I’m mostly here for fun, I usually skip the ranking part.

I’ll use C++ and SFML, wich is a great library built on top of OpenGL. You can find more information about it on SFML website.

I’ll also use my own “framework”, just a bunch of tools using SFML in C++. It’s not complete yet , but never will be. Anyone who wants to use it is welcome to do so. Here is the GitHub link. I’ll perhaps update it in some days.

If you want, you can find more information about me on my website (french), or on my GitHub account.

Good luck to everyone !

The Holy Chicken is in!!

Back for my third Ludum Dare!!

//                                              I have no life…

//                                                                     Such a masochist… ]:

Language: C#

Library: MonoGame XNA

IDE: Visual Studio 2013

Graphics: Paint.NET, Inkscape, GIMP

Audio: onlinesequencer.net, sfxr, Audacity

Good luck everyone!

Let’s make a game, why not?

We’re in, baby.

Scheduling is horrible for the whole team, but we’re sure if we pour our hearts into this, we’ll whip up something nice for sure. Something very us, if you catch my drift.

As usual, Java with libgdx (and some bits and bobs), Paint.net and Renoise.

So excited!

I’m in?

Trying to sleep off the fever before the compo starts. If I’m feeling better I’ll join the fun tomorrow. Anyhow, here’s the basecode I’ll be using:

https://github.com/petrihakkinen/ld29

I’ll be using LuaJIT, C++ and SDL for programming, aseprite & Paint.NET for the graphics and Bfxr & cgMusic for the sounds.

What else? Oh, it’s my first LD but I have made some games before… see ya!

In again

I’m in again, this time in the solo competition!

Language: Java

Tools: IntelliJ, bfxr, Gimp.

Libraries: Libgdx and my own utility and maybe other libraries.

LD29_in

Hey there, I’m in too. This is my third time around and can’t wait to get started. I’ll be using these tools:

– Flash CC AS3 { mostly just timeline animation and simple actions }

– Figure { music creation }

– Sound Studio 4 { audio editing }

And this will be my physical set up: a macbook air on a dresser with a wacom and a yoga mat to stand on. I’m a little wary of this new arrangement because I was just leaning my left elbow a little too hard on the dresser and now my left pinky is numb. Think I may have pinched a nerve or something, but I’m sure the numbness will go away soon with proper posture. Anyways, be safe at your standing desks, hope you have fun and good luck to everyone!

I’m in

Hello guys!

This is my first time entering Ludum Dare.

I will try to finish the game and hope for the best!

Language: Java or JS

IDE: Eclipse

😀

Haven’t read the rules… BUT I’M IN!!

MY OWN CHALLENGE: Use only my voice as sound affects!

Okay I read some of them, but I’ll need to re-read! 😀

This is my first Ludum Dare so I may not be fully prepared AND I will be modeling in Cinema 4D for the first time (Much preparation).

I won’t be spending all my time on it as I have revision etc. but I WILL be live streaming the event. (Twitch channel: TheGabeMeister1)

I will be using:

  •  Unity 3D Engine (C#)
  •  Cinema 4D (Modeling)
  • Any royalty free audio and textures

A few weeks ago, I came up with an alternative for sound effects instead of sfxr, but I couldn’t remember what that alternative was. Now I read your post I remember I wanted to record stuff myself.

Throwing my hat in!

I’m participating on this one again, and I’ll be posting updates on my blog, and on Twitter (@shadowcovenant, if you want to follow me), and also on the website…

I’ve updated my basic LD48 framework with some stuff I think I may need (nothing game related, just some stuff most engines have out of the box)…

image

You can download the framework here, if you want to use it (it has some sample applications that show most if not all the features). Current features:

  • D3D9 initialization and some helpers
  • FMOD interface for sound
  • 2d Sprites (with sprite caching, etc)
  • 2d Particle System
  • Simple UIButton for easy menus
  • Text (through FreeType 2)
  • 3ds file loading (only tested with 3ds generated by 3d Studio Max). Loads lights, meshes and cameras.
  • Small simple math library (vectors and quaternions)
  • Simple 3d camera handling system (just with a “look at” operation)
  • XML loading/saving (might come in handy for configuration files, load/saves, etc. The XML loader was created by Frank Berghen, not me… the writer is all me, although the loader also has save functions, but I’m too lazy to figure out how they work)
  • 3d particle system (based on the 2d one, so very rudimentary)
  • 3d sprite system (quads that always face the camera)
  • LUA library support (it’s actually ripped from my engine, so it’s a good support system for LUA)… Last time I used cutscenes and scripting, and loads of the game code was much simpler because of that…
  • DDS image loading for an offscreen buffer (just supports A8R8G8B8 images). Might be useful for some level design stuff, although I’ll probably go back to my old days of text files.
  • 3d Tilemap (Kind of a blocky heightmap with an automatic texture atlas generation and partition of the map in chunks for possible culling (not implemented)).
  • Voxel system (almost fast enough for realtime regeneration)
  • Simple geometry generation (quad, cube, spheroid, caps and cylinders)
  • Special effect objects (sparks, explosions, although the explosion require some authoring)
  • Full-screen effect systems (to implement glows, or invert the colors, or add displacements, etc)
  • Full shader-based rendering system (no fixed-function pipeline), with simple lighting system (only shadowless point and spot lights, although directional lights should be easy to implement, just a matter of adding to the shaders). Shader system is built with uber-shaders in mind, with easy to add per-material properties (material color for example) and system-wide constants (ambient light, for example).
  • Launcher functions (a dialog box that pops and asks for resolution, sound volumes, window/full screen, etc, in 3 easy lines of code)
  • Simple navigation mesh generation and path finding (based on Recast). It enables to add objects to a NavMesh object (not all objects work yet), and it will build the navigation mesh, which can be queried… It’s easy to extend, if you know how to use Recast. This component is on a separate library, so you “opt-out” of it easily.

On the tools side, I’ll use:

  • Visual Studio 2010
  • Photoshop CS5 (for 2d graphics and textures if I decide to adventure into 3d, and for map creation, etc)
  • 3d Studio Max (for modelling if I go 3d, or for title screens and such otherwise)
  • sfxr (or Bfxr) (for audio effects)
  • Live Writer for blogging
  • Everything I get my hands on…

No idea what I’m going to use for music, but probably what I’ll go the same route as last time, asking a friend of mine to use his gear… if he’s available, of course… Smile

My expectations for this compo are fairly high… My last attempt was on the top 10%, so I want to do better this time (although the competition is stiff). The remaining themes are also not very inviting, except for Glitch (that would allow me to make the cyberspace action game I’ve been thinking about!)

Probably going for my usual 48-Hour compo drill… Go to bed at normal hours, wake up at 3am to see the theme and go back to bed… then start working early in the morning!
