Post Jam version of nixter

A bunch of friend and I participated in the Indie Vs Gamers jam.

Now that the voting is over we were able to upload a post jam version and would love to get feedback from the ludum dare community.

Play Nixter

For once we chose to build around a simple concept but focus on the player feedback and on the polish. It was not easy to coordinate the work of 5 people who had not worked together before but we made it. We are open to any kind of criticism so don’t hold back ;D

This will be my fourth LD. I am now changing engines.

Issues with my LDMini 61 build

UPDATE: I have OSX and Windows builds available now. Still don’t know what is causing the web build to sometimes not work correctly. Sorry for the trouble, but please try one of the standalone builds if the WebGL version doesn’t work for you. Also, anyone who knows a solution to this issue, I’d appreciate if you leave a comment. Thanks. –Chad

It looks like there are some issues with playing my LDMini 61 game “Journey to the Center of the Sun”. The point and click stuff works fine, but sometimes the W/A/S/D and arrow keys are getting ignored.

Not sure exactly what’s going on–could be an issue with Unity’s WebGL build?–and won’t have time to dig into it until this evening (hopefully). In addition to seeing what I can do about fixing it, I’ll probably also add a Windows build and a Mac build for anyone who is having issues in the browser.

Strangely, it seems that if I point my browser directly to the game on my site (as opposed to playing through the Ludum Dare page) it works. That url is https://lavamonkeygames.com/gamefiles/centerofthesun (case sensitive). My build is set to a screen size of 900 x 600, but it’s still scrolling slightly when played from the Ludum Dare site. I’m wondering if I need to shrink it down just a bit. maybe the browser is interpreting the arrow keys as scroll commands and not directing them to the game?

Anyway, sorry for the inconvenience. I’m on it. :)

Who’s not in?

Well, I’m certainly in for my second LD. Probably using:

  • Engine: Libgdx
  • Graphics: PyxelEdit
  • Sound/Music: Bfxr, Sunvox

Hi!

This is going to be my first Ludum Dare, and I’m really excited! I come from the south of Spain and I’ve published a couple of games for iOS and Android. However, I’ve never done something like this before, so it’s going to be a daunting (though exciting) challenge! My plan is using the Love2d framework, because I’m interested in gaining more expertise in Lua.

See y’all!

Any Tips for Learning Unity?

I’m still not too good at Unity 5. I’ve been learning and can make simple games, but non can compete to other games in Ludum Dare. I’ve got books, “Unity in Action” being my best one, but are there any particular videos or books that would be of assistance? I’ve got 3-4 weeks, so I’m pretty sure theres time. Thanks in advance.

Good Chadivision! I would also like to add that the most important thing is to have fun during the Ludum Dare, not to “win against everyone else” – that’s only for the really good people! :) LD is also a really good learning opportunity in of itself! I feel like I come out of every Ludum Dare as slightly better game developer than what I was before!

As well as the Unity documentation, Youtube is an excellent source of learning when it comes to any subject.

I tend to learn best when I am watching videos and have subscribed to a number of tutorial channels over the years.

I prefer C# as a language over Javascript, having initially learnt Javascript for Unity and switching over when I found that C# seemed to be more commonly supported.

This is going to be my first Ludum Dare, and I am very excited to test my skills in compo! I’ve been working on games in one way or another since I was in 5th grade, and I’ve slowly built up my skills to the point where I feel comfortable starting a large project.

It’s going to be quite the change of pace creating something in 48 hours, but the challenge is exciting!

This will be my seventh LD. This time some things are changing.

Most, if not all of my games were made in Java without using any engines, and sometimes using LWJGL. This time I will be using my own programming language I have been working on, just to test how usable the language really is. I hope things will go well! 😀

Nice, good luck!

Löve2D on the Web

Hey fellow ludumdarers,

I spent the last six or seven month rewriting Löve2D for emscripten and thus the Web (or at least, WebGL enabled browsers). It is not complete, but my LD32 entry runs smoothly in it (in some browsers). I thought you might be interested. You can find it here.

Let me know what you think!

Looking for an Animator/Game Designer for our team

Our team consists of:
1 – A programmer
2 – A programmer/game designer
3 – an artist

This will be my 2nd jam. (I’ve also done 2 compos). I personally prefer innovative ideas over well polished ones. I am number 2 on that list up there. We are hoping to get one more person in on our team. My artist friend is looking for an animator to work with because this is his first game jam. If said animator also feels they have strong/decent skills as a game designer, then that would be even better. We would also love to have someone with experience doing a few jams, but that isn’t necessary.
If you’re interested, post a little about your self below, and please include a reference to a jam entry you have done (if any).

any other ways to contact you?

I’m In

The title is pretty self-explanatory.  This is my fourth time.

Tools:

Engine – Unity3D

3D Modelling – Blender

2D “Art” (I’m a programmer, it doesn’t really count as art.) – Paint.NET

Audio Recording – Audacity

Sound Effect Generation – sfxr

Texture Generation – MaPZone 2

I’m hopefully in…

I will try to do the jam but I’m not sure if I’ll finish being gone monday (last day) and for half of saturday. But… I will try… I don’t want to break my streak (haven’t missed one yet) This will hopefully be my 4th Ludum Dare (Yay! 1st year anniversary). Here is what I hopefully will be using… Almost the same as last year. I might change some stuff but here it is.

Language: Java with eclipse

Graphics: Paint.NET,  Piskel, maybe Gimp and Inkscape

Music: FL studio, LMMS, maybe incompetech.com, Soundation or Abundant Music. Depends on how much time I have left

SFX: Might use SFXR if I have time or just Audacity.

Not that many changes.

Are you going to use plain Java? No frameworks or third-party libraries?

Perhaps you could re-use some code for a personal library/framework from your previous game?

That’s what I am doing, should speed up development a bit. But maybe you like building something entirely from scratch each time, which is an interesting challenge!

Hi guys !

Last time was my first Ludum Dare, and it was an amazing experience (obviously !). Therefore, I am attending to LD33 ! I should be entering the compo and use the following tools :

  • Eclipse for Java
  • Gimp
  • As3sfxr, Chiptone, Audacity, Bosca Ceoil
  • Other miscellaneous tools I don’t know about yet… 😉

I will also use :

  • Coffee (with no moderation)
  • Spotify

Finally, I will try to stream the testing sessions on Twitch.tv (nickname : yamzho) !

Can’t wait !

I think I’m in!

This will be my first Ludum Dare and I can’t wait 😀

I’ll be entering the jam using these tools:

  •  C#/MonoGame in Visual Studio 2015
  • Paint.NET for programmer art 😀
  • Audacity and other audio tools, probably FL Studio

Congrats you just found out

I’m in. I’d better be.

So last Ludum Dare I wasn’t able to join because my laptop just HAPPENED to get heavily damaged the day before the dare; however, enough ranting about that. I’m currently writing this post because I’ll be joining the 33rd Ludum Dare and stuff. Here’s what I’ll be using (all programs listed below are subject to change):

Engine: GameMaker Studio

Music/SFX: Fl Studio

SFX: SFXR

Graphics: GameMaker Studio, Paint.net

Well that’s about it. Happy daring. Ludum Daring. Jamming. Ludumizing? Ah whatever let’s all just give it our all!

Inspired by xWarZonex’s previous entry I finally found a tool (Audacity), that is able to convert a MIDI file 1:1 into a MP3. Previous approaches resulted in strange sounds or missing instruments etc. Anyways…

Now I can share those teasers of my work with you:

What software/website did you use to create these amazing soundtracks. They are so good and good luck with your game!

I really like these songs. The mealody is really good, and the sounds are very polished, refined, and mature. “Working” is deffinitly my favorite, it’s one of the most beautiful and perfectly peiced loops I’ve ever heard. Good Job

It’s my first ludum dare. I’ve just learned about this today.
