LD 42 August 10–13, 2018

this may get complicated. also here's my loadout.

my first compo is going to end up being really complicated. the theme is going to be announced on, like, the last day of my job training induction, where ill be 50 miles away from home at the time. that part isn't so much of a problem as it is a complication though; it gives me time in the car to brainstorm ideas. the real problem is coming home after a whole week of long training days only to sit down and get to coding. hopefully ill be able to come up with something on the drive home so i can start this ludum dare off with a hitch, but given the circumstances, i might not have any brainpower left to come up with a good idea, so here's hoping.

- Unity and MS Visual Studio: Powerhouse as always, on some mitochondria type stuff.

- Audacity, Bosca Ceoil, and SFXR: For shaping those lush tunes and foley, yeh.

I'm also recording my experience soooo..

- Nikon D7000 and Logitech HD Pro Webcam: For recording myself suffer blissfully, mhm.

* Audio-Technica AT2020:* To record my screams and curses, of course.

Everything else will be done on a good old whiteboard and pen & paper. Some sticky notes too, probably.

Good Luck Everyone and I'll see you at the starting line!

Time spending (?)

This is my first time doing a 48 hour game jam (have only done 72 hour game jams). Trying to say, that I will not have a lot of time.

Is there a way to spend the 48 hours as ideally? Time strategies or tips, let me know!

PS: I don't think staying up the whole 48 hours is a good idea.

I'm in!

This will be my 7th Ludum Dare!

Tools: GameMaker: Studio 1.4, Aseprite, Krita, GIMP, ChipTone

Good luck everyone!

I am in - Time for a new framework

This will hopefully be my 8th LD entry.

Recently I was getting a little sick of Unity and few weak attempts at Unreal discouraged me very quickly.

Since I really want to develop in C++ and I've never had a passion for 3D games I will be trying out SDL2 next weekend for the first time. It's a little bit more low-level than I have hoped, so I am working on bare bones engine to get me started.

Other than SDL2, it will be the usual: Visual Studio, Photoshop, Illustrator, Audacity.

Good luck to everyone and don't work yourself too hard ;)

I'm in...

I am in for another solo LD and my voting

I will be basing my code off the last entries code. So at least I have a starting point and slowly modularize it with a good set of features to make it easier on myself.

Just joined my first ludum dare and I have no idea what I'm doing

Disappointed With Themes

I was lenient with the slaughter round accepting about 40% of the themes I saw, but I am pretty disappointed with the ones that are left. Most are okay but none of them inspire me to make a fun game (except for one but that still isn't a high success rate).

I know the community was super harsh in the slaughter round but how do you feel know?

I'm going to try something new, crazy, and possibly stupid.

My first Ludum Dare I used Processing to make my game. It was a huge fail, and have since learned how to use two other platforms that are made specifically for games. One of those is Unity, and the other is Roblox. Roblox has been given lots of hate recently, but it is a great platform to develop multiplayer games on. It has been upgraded so games can be developed that meet the status quo of todays games, and I feel like it is good enough for me to participate in Ludum Dare with. I understand this is a stupid idea and that it will be difficult to get others to test out the game I develop, but I want to do something different. Good luck everyone!

We're In Again

This will be the teams 8th time participating; the number varies for each member.

Tools:

  • cobblestone, my custom game engine written in Dart
  • IntelliJ IDEA
  • FL Studio and Audacity
  • Krita, Gimp, Photoshop, Paint.net, or whatever other image editor might be useful

You can view our code in this repository and even play the game during the weekend here thanks to Gitlab's Continuous Integration. For now, enjoy the classic NeHe texture there.

1st LD, super excited!

Jumping into my first Ludum Dare and am very excited. I’ll be streaming progress on the game art on twitch and hopefully won’t fall on my face :) Looking forward to learning a lot!

First Ludum

ima kid I'm kinda scared but LETS DOOO THISSS

Music Software?

What's y'alls go to software for making music for jams? I haven't found any really good software.

Let's do this!

So this will be my third LD let's see what can I do.

Last jam I was busy with life and such and couldn't participate, and in December I couldn't play and rate because of my exams...

But this time oh boy, I am READY :ghost:

Planning to use: * Unity (maybe with TextMeshPro again) * Blender * Krita or Paint.NET

Good luck everyone! May the Force be with you.

*takes big sip of summer lemonade* Ahhh... I'm in!

Ahhh, summer LudumDare! I used to find summer just OK, but lately I've become more fond of it. (Perhaps it's just because I'm still thawing from this last winter! Harhar.) Maybe my area will get a nice storm brewing so I'll have some nice development ambiance. Ah, let's hope it's not too strong, though; I need my wifi!

I'm really happy with the games I created for these last two LudumDares (LudumDari?) so, hey, maybe I'll let myself get a bit more experimental this time around. Maybe not, though! Haha. I never know what to expect with LudumDare besides having a ton of fun and learning a lot, which is I guess is a big reason I love it so much.

Anyway, enough rambling! I'll probably stick with the usual suspects:

🍳 Construct2: HTML5 game creation software!

🍳 Aseprite: Pixel art program!

🍳 GIMP: Open source photo editor!

🍳 LSDJ and bgb: Authentic Gameboy synthesizer and emulator!

🍳 Audacity: Open source sound editor!

🍳 itch.io: Storefront/games host!

PS: In case you've been wondering, I'm still working on Combo Postage, the suped-up remake of my LudumDare 40 entry! Current plan is to get it out on itch.io and Steam by the end of the summer. (Here's hoping!)

I'll be participating..

I might want to try some new tools... so maybe Löve and Milkytracker? I might make the art in GIMP..

Good luck everyone!

I'm in!

Once again I think I have some things going on the weekend of Ludum Dare, but I'm in! Tools will be Unity, Blender, Gimp & Paint.NET, Audacity, and FL Studio.

First Ludum Dare!

It's my first ludum dare, but I did the global game jam earlier this year and loved it, so looking forward to this!

In and back for more pain!

Wow this will be my fifth ludum dare! It feels like yesterday I was holding my breath rushing to get my game working for ludum dare 38. One big thing I have taken away so far is to start very small. It seems really simple, but its incredibly easy to become overwhelmed by your own crazy ideas based on the theme!

Tools of the trade:

-Godot Engine

-Blender

-Krita

-Reaper

IF I am feeling EXTRA spicy and sadistic:

-I will try using the newly open sourced Xenko Engine. I've been messing around with it, so this would be a good time for some trail by fire.

-I could also switch out Reaper to make some music in the new free daw Cakewalk by BandLab.

Theme voting! Finally!

  1. This indicates that LD42 is close (ONLY 4 DAYS!!!)
  2. I was reaaaaaally bored of the Theme Slaughter Round.
