LD 42 August 10–13, 2018

I'm in!

Hey guys! This is my first LDJam but not my first Game Jam so I'm pretty excited. I'll be using Unreal Engine 4 accompanied by Blender. Depending on the theme, I may use Aseprite. I'll also be teaming up with a friend of mine. Good luck everyone!

I'm in (again)

Second time participating, although last time was still on the old website. That's why I have a new account. I'll probably use Unity. Wish everyone a lot of fun.

Any musicians looking to join a team?

Currently we're an artist and programmer duo who've only done one jam (see my profile for the project), which ended up having to have royalty-free music tacked on at the last minute which didn't really fit the game.

I’m In!

Hey, this is my first LDJam, at that my first jam. I’m pretty excited for this jam. The tools I will be using are Game Maker Studio 1.4 because it’s free. The engines art designer for art audacity for sfx and Bosca Ceoil. I plan on doing the Jam because it seems like less of a challenge for my first jam. Hopefully I can get a game done and put up.

First Jam

First LD, been using unity 2-3 years and done 3D,2D,VR and MR and am a programmer by profession Best at programming and sprite design Can compose a little music and make some basic 3d modeling skills Gonna solo but would love working with someone too Discord: Ace#2288

SFML Base Code

If any of you are planning on using C++ with SFML for your Ludum Dare entry I have a relatively simple starter project available.

You can find it here. If you have any additions feel free to make a pull request!

Requires CMake and SFML to use

Hi there again!

Back for my second time at Ludum Dare. Going solo again for now since I couldn't actually get any friend to join me yet. Summer Comiket is next weekend too and I don't know if I'll have enough time to actually go, it will all depend on how progress for the game goes.

I better review some blender stuff this week to work faster and actually do something better than last time's models xP

First Ludum Dare

Second weekend game jam, first Ludum Dare. I'm planning on doing the Compo.

My Practice LD-42 Round Results "Cubalance"

In order to get excited about my first ludum dare I went ahead and challenged myself to make whatever game I could think to make in 2 days. Cubalance was the result.

Cubalance is a simple arcade game similar to stack where your goal is to balance as many cubes on a platform as possible while tilting the device.

I may have gotten too excited because due to craze of these types of apps on the mobile stores I'm actually publishing it so look for on the google play store in the coming days!

It is in beta testing with me, family and friends but once I get the all clear from everyone I will post an APK to the public so stay tuned!

Back for our second LD!

Hey all. Back for our second Ludum Dare and third-ever Jam. Best of luck to everyone, and see you all soon. Looking forward to seeing everyone's entries in a week!

Im in for LD 42

This will be the first time with a 3 man team. Two first timers. We will be using unity and photoshop as some of our main development platforms.

Whats the best engine?

Hello everyone! After so many hours of research on the "trustable" internet looking for the best engine to use , i just cant find it! My personal favorite engine is Construct2 And Construct classic. But i hear you say:"these tools are for kids, real men type pure code."and you are right, i like C2 because its really simple and fast , you can make a platformer game in seconds and thats why im using it , its fast! Its good for a jam that ends in 2 days

But still... its bound to its events. So if you know a engine as fast as Construct or better please comment blow . Im really looking for it.

Good luck🍀

[Sound Designer/Composer] Looking for a project

Hi Everyone,

I am a Sound Designer/Composer from Italy. I am interested in finding a team for the upcoming LD.

Please, contact me if you are interested in me to be part of your team.

Have a nice LD!

I'm in again!

Unbroken participation chain since LD29, still going! :)

Doing VR again like many of my previous entries, looking forward to experimenting with Knuckles EV2 controllers but also keeping stuff compatible with other more simple VR controllers/headsets.

SteamVR/Unity/Maya LT like always. :D

Also doing the 72 hour Jam like always.

The First Time I've Taken Part in Ludum Dare for Four Years

tfxld-01.png

I used to take part in Ludum Dare, entering every event between LD26 and LD30 (At one point I came #26 overall!). This means I haven't taken part in four whole years, mainly due to university and subsequently getting a full-time job. Now that I can manage my spare time more efficiently, I've decided to take part in Ludum Dare once again!

My tools:

  • Game Maker Studio 1.4 - Old-school and terrible, but I love it and have become a "master" of sorts.
  • Aseprite and/or GM:S built-in sprite editor - Not big in the graphics department, but I'll try.
  • FL Studio 12 - I am better known for making chiptune music, so you should expect something decent from the audio category
  • ShareX - "Why is a screenshot program in your tools list?" Well, when it comes to showing off your game, you need a powerful screenshot shortcut replacement. This one lets me draw, add text, and blur things before I even take the screenshot, and also supports recording a video/GIF without going through the effort of opening the likes of OBS.
  • OBS - Don't get me wrong, despite putting it down in the last point, I still use OBS. It's incredibly powerful, and who knows, I might do a bit of streaming! I'll also likely record gameplay with this to help me make a "trailer", assuming there's even time.
  • foobar2000 - You can't enter a game jam without your music jam! It helps you focus. The reason I use this specifically for music is because it supports anything you throw at it (assuming you can provide it a decoder), and its layout can be edited to any way you like. Here's mine (screenshot)
  • A little bit of magic - The enthusiasm and spirit of LD puts a huge grin on my face

All that's left to say now is... GL;HF!

(See a copy of this post on my website)

I'm in!

This is my second ludum dare, can't wait!

A list of things I learned from my first ludum dare:

  • When you upload your source code, only upldoad the assets folder, or else the folder may get unavailable for others to view and download.
  • When you updload your game, always make sure that you include the UnityPlayer.dll in the game folder, or else people that don't have unity installed may get an error message saying "UnityPlayer.dll is missing".

PS: I was using the Unity engine so if you don't use the Unity engine then you don't have to worry about these things.

I get that it is LD 42, but...

ld42themes.png I like Douglas Adams works as much as the next Person, but the amount of 42/Meaning of Life.../HGttG puns were just excessive. Things I slaughtered: * 42 puns - they don't make good themes * very specific mechanics - some of them were great ideas to put in games, but not as themes * mechanics I dislike - e.g. 'clunky controls' who wants to test a bunch of games from a jam with this title? Also: this will happen anyways, no need to make it the theme. * basic genre titles

Looking forward to the next rounds =)

Everything good

Happy theme purging
