Getting started on my first game jam!

Hoping to get some good ideas, just about to brainstorm up some thoughts on this theme. Well, good luck to all!

Tools (I guess) Unity Photoshop Mix-craft 8 home

If I could actually create a blog post...

LD keeps crapping out, but I’m glad everyone’s here and excited! The theme definitely wasn’t my top 10, but at least it wasn’t You’re The Final Boss 🤷‍♀️

This is my first jam!

Even though I've been working in games for a while, this is my first jam. It's kind of scary, but I hope to be able to do something interesting (and be able to finish it!). My intention is to do something with Unity.

Good luck everyone on your projects!

First thoughts on theme

I predict Lots of "running animations" against a space background and play's on the Battle Royale format. Surprise me people! don't go for the obvious! :)

Courier Panic!, My Jam Entry

Instead of using the theme in a quote-unquote "creative" way, I decided to focus on making a simple game that combines the things I know I can do well, and fit it into the theme in the best way I can muster.

In Courier Panic!, you're a delivery driver on a basic shift. You'll start with a list of stops to make in your area, and you'll get a time limit to finish them. As you deliver things and get paid for them, pickup requests appear. Pick up parcels and add them to your run for more money, but pay attention to your time limit.

The theme comes into play in two ways. One, your truck's inventory is limited, and new pickups appear all the time, of varying distance and value. You'll have to plan out which ones to take and how many to deal with at once. Two, you lack space in the sense that you lack time to get to every delivery you want to make.

I like this idea as more than just a jam entry, so I may keep working on it after things are done. We'll see what happens, and if I even get to a finished state here...

Yass! One of my fave themes got picked! Here's my game idea!

Hiya everyone! I'm writing this while creating my project. Before the Jam started, I had already kind of gotten ideas for the several themes that were in the final voting, and the one that was chosen is one of my favourite ideas. So, the idea I had for "Running out of space" was Data themed, concretly how a virus or the user decides to do a scheduled deletion of the system and you play as a file who wants to escape from the deletion by traveling to several points from the computer until reaching a safe spot. I'm gonna be taking some visual inspiration from some games I like, such as Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded, Sly Cooper (the Bentley hacking segments). Probably my biggest challenge will be how to generate the labyrinths and I will need to do some extra research while I'm at it.

Now i'll be heading to sleep (I'm in Spain and it's midnight here) and early in the morning i'll get setup! Good luck everyone and remember to have fun!

I'm in

Had awful toothache whole week, turns out my teeth died ... without any reason ... X-Ray and dental check showed nothing, but root canal therapy had to be performed ... now one of my teeth is left wide open, so I'm basically not allowed to eat, and have to take 4-5 painkillers every day to bare the pain ... BUT I'M IN!

I was waiting for this weekend for like a month, took 2 days off work, so I won't let some naughty tooth take my weekend away from me :)

Regarding the theme, it's not the worst I've seen, if I recall correctly I voted +1 for this one.

I wish all of you a productive weekend and can't wait to see your games :)

PS: Maybe this amount of painkillers will give me some extra creativity :)

Throwaway Idea

If anyone wants it:

Space Gun

Fight against enemies using a weapon that utilizes the surrounding area as ammunition. Sacrifice chunks of the terrain/level/map in order to shoot at enemies.

Make sure to make every shot count or else. . .

You could find yourself standing on nothing

or turn it into a puzzle game or something idc

I'm in for the Compo!

I have some ideas for this theme but I'm trying to be more creative with it. Going to take some time to think about it while I get my environment set up and see if anything jumps out at me!

Idea

After being mad at theme and watching my friends harrys stream i just wrote bunch of momental ideas and i think i got idea, You have to complete puzzles to get coffee while entire world is collapsing :D

Game idea is set

So after some brainstorming with cool ideas, my teammate and me are going for a good night of sleep to be fresh and ready for tomorrow. Good luck to everyone starting to work now, hear from you tomorrow !

yes

Pretty cool with the theme. Going to make something in Unity, my first time trying to complete something with the engine. GraphicsGale for sprites and SunVox for music (if time allows).

I'm thinking the setting of the game will be something related to global warming (a likely subject for many games I imagine). Some mechanics I've been thinking about fit well w/that. Just hope I can learn Unity fast enough!
