LD 39 July 28–31, 2017

Yay my game is on Youtube !

I sent my game to a youtuber called "kanetsu" and I challenged him to do 70 kills in my game! And he accepted!

If you want to beat his score, or you want to play the game, you can play it *HERE*

Go vote for these "almost there" games and get 'em ranked!

Newer updated version above!

For your convenience; here are some games between 10 and 20 votes. I think together we can give them their last few votes to get a ranking! All with HTML5 builds, all tested and working. Go rate them!

Please check if the game has 20 votes already, so we can be an efficient machine and rank as many as possible!

(x needed) are quick approximates (if you opt out from several categories they only count as n/8 points).

I'll update this post with more when games reached their required 20 votes. Or create a new post when this post drops off the main page. I picked these randomly. Is your game almost at 20 votes? Add them in the comments and I'll update this post!

On ratings, fame and SPAM

It's been a great jam for me and many others. Loads of quality feedback has been given, life is good. Then there are the other others who don't seem to get it. They take the wrong things and treat them way too seriously.

These are the types I've seen in this jam, without naming any names:

  • One user leaving fake comments gobbled together from other users' comments, without playing the entry itself.
  • One user poaching ratings, promising to add more features once Rating milestones are met.
  • Multiple users loudly advertising their Rating goals. "Help me reach 100 by the end of the week!", then next week "Help me reach 150 before the end of the jam!"
  • A few users outright spamming the very same ad post every single day.

Why am I complaining?

  • Spam is annoying and hides more interesting posts under it.
  • To hopefully make these people understand that learning to become better and helping others is the point of the jam, not fame. (Luckily there is no money involved in the jam, directly at least!)
  • To have a stern talk about fairness. If you have considerably more ratings than you've given out, look in the mirror! There are many entries with less than 20 ratings and you are only thinking about yourself.

What can we do?

Always check the ratings received/given ratio. I kind of understand it if a "celebrity" has 139 (just a random number off the top of my head) to 0 ratio, they have fans and cannot help it.

How could the site be improved for future jams?

  • Flag for spam button. There is no need to surveil and ban people, just have a visible X people think this is spam flag in each post. Then the author at least knows they've gone too far.
  • Tags. Each post needs to be tagged one of the following: Pre-release, Release (one per user), New version, Post-mortem (one per user), Educational (as in articles about useful dev techniques), Advertisement or Other. Posts in the wrong category would get the spam button treatment pretty fast.
  • Main page tag filters. So if I don't want to see Advertisement posts, then I can just toggle them off. Simple!

I just had to get this off my chest. Have a nice last day.

This is the end... (almost)

If you haven't already, why not give my entry a go. I'd also be interested to hear about any games you think I should play. Thanks to all who've already played and left some great feedback :)

As the voting phase is getting closer towards its end, I want to say thanks to everyone who had played my game and left feedback and suggestions so far. This was the first time I actually finished a game for a LD and I'm really, really happy with the results.

If you haven't done so, you can play The P.U.R.G.E. Protocol here. Also, I've written a postmortem a few days ago with the lessons I've learned from this amazing experience.

Thanks again!

As I've been away on holiday/vacation I've not been around to play many Ludum Dare games or even support my own. I have to thank those of you that played and voted on my game, Oil Patrol. I only wish I could have returned the favour before the deadline (I'll play a couple tonight, so perhaps drop some links in the comments below).

I've not written a full postmortem as of yet, but I know that in future I will be making sure I have enough time to play games as well as participating.

Here's a little more information about my work process and tools used, along with a full development timelapse: http://noonan.design/devlogs/ludum-dare-39-time-lapse-oil-patrol/

Last day!

Hey!

We're really close to the end, and I just realised we didn't post anything this LD!

I hope everyone had a really good time, and that everyone is happy about their work!

Here is what we did with my team, for our 10th LD : Ride Out

Banniereemflou/emresized.png

It's a little musical runner, the week-end didn't go very well and the game isn't really what we wanted, but we are still proud! We really need some feedback, so don't hesitate to try it and comment!

Here's a video of the full game if you don't have time! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OqATMxA9oc

A big thank you to everyone, the LudumDare is still one of the most important event in my life! <3

Thank you everyone

I thank everyone that played, rate and leaved a comment for my game "Energy Boy". As the votes are ending soon this could the last time to say some small words about the game.

The game is still there in the Jam Version but i want to continue work on it in the next weeks and improve it ( i am now back from my 2 week vacation). For this i have tons of ideas and many of you had great ideas for improvements too.

If you havent played Energy Boy - you still can do it here and leave a comment or just rate the game.

As it was my first LD i want to say just one more thing: it was a really great experience and i want to join LD40.

So hopefully see you all next LD here too. And i love what you guys did in this great time period..there were many many great games that was made.

Another Reason why i wanted to join LD39 was to be able to leave feedback to your games (as i still watched the games in LD38 and 37 and i didnt before recognized that only developers can leave feedback).

Sooo one bonus motivation to finish this was rating for other games and tell the developers what great things they did.

Go vote for these "almost there" games and get 'em ranked!

Recharge Music

Hello, guys!

I'd like to tell you about the music for our first LD game. Although, we didn't manage to finish the game on time, the audio part went quite well, so we decided to share it anyway.

The theme and all the sounds were created solely on this baby, which is a 100% analog synthesizer, despite of its modest size.

vlcsnap-2017-08-21-01h09m47s147.png

There are two people in our team. I'm a musician in everyday life, but this was my first experience in game sound design. Our platformer is about a cute little robot, who's travelling through dark unfriendly corridors. I tried to emphasize this contrast via music. The main aim for me was to create atmosphere of alert and action without making it aggressive.

The work on the game is still going on, and your feedback at this point is very appreciated. Thanks a lot to everyone who has already commented and rated our sketch. We're really happy to participate.
