I need YOUR feedback!

Fools fortune title.gif

Fools Fortune's post jam development is going swimmingly, I have almost all major features implemented (code wise) and a decent chunk of the art finished but I could use some feedback on two ideas.

The first idea is an "unhinged" joke set of scenarios; As of right now there will be 154 scenarios that are more or less completely serious, I'm debating adding a 6th suit of cards that would consist of 5-7 cards (10-14 scenarios) that would all be humorous.

Now the concern with this is would this break the immersion and feel of the game? any feedback on that idea is greatly appreciated!

The second thing I need feedback on is the item cards; Since the jam item cards have been implemented, these cards are given to the player when they choose an option that boosts a stat with specific items being tied to specific stats. Now none of the art has been done for these cards, the thing is that there are essentially only 8 functions these cards will serve with 5 of them being the heirloom cards that will be hard to obtain.

If you were playing this and got the same item every time your strength stat was increased would you be annoyed? Would you want more than one item visual even if it did the exact same thing?

I look forward to hearing any and all feedback this community may have!

Start screen

The idea of start screen of our game for LD44 was very sudden. I invented her right after my teammates, who were searching for sounds, had found the 'AAAAAAAAH' sound for our kamikaze frog.

Sneak peak of post jam in-development version

sneak_peak.jpg

I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on my entry, Labyrinth of Souls, but there was a lot of room for improvement. I've been working hard this week to improve the visuals and the audio of the game and HOLY COW is it ever so much more intense now. Above you can see a sneak peak of the player about to enter the soul altar chamber. Be careful, you never know what might be lurking around in these halls...

I hope everyone has a great weekend. Thanks to all who have played, rated and commented on games this week. You've helped other developers and deserve some kudos. So... KUDOS!

Mouse problems fixed !

Hey, we fixed few problems for peoples with double screen !

Using "Billboarded" 2D sprites in 3D space, like Doom or Wolfenstein

GIF-Billboard-Demo-2.gif

For those unfamiliar with the term, a "Billboard" sprite is a 2D image that always faces the camera, so the player can't "see around it" to notice that it's just a flat image. You've undoubtedly seen this done in old games like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D (even the corpses of the monsters would continue to rotate with the camera).

I've always wanted to experiment with this old school technique, and Ludum Dare seemed like a great time to try it out, especially because I don't have any 3D modeling experience but wanted to do a 3D project.

GIF-Billboard-Demo-1.gif

I thought it would be fun to share what it looks like in Scene view compared to the Game view in Unity. Pretty funny to see what the sprites are actually doing in response to the camera motion. The script attached to the sprites is super simple:

void Start()
{
    cam = Camera.main;
}

void Update()
{
    transform.forward = -cam.transform.forward;
}

If you want to see this in action and nuke some Ghost Spiders, please play and rate "Darkling" here:

That's a Wrap on our first LD!

We had a great time participating in our first Ludum Dare and are pretty happy with the results! We tried out "Crypt of the NecroDancer"-style gameplay/music synchronization and it came out well for the time we had! If anyone has any recommendations for Unity packages or techniques for this kind of thing, please reach out! I'd love to explore this topic further.

Come play our game! And thanks to everyone who gave feedback already!

I want to rate your adventure game!

Turns out Zoltan loves them.

I would be happy to try and rate your adventure!

This has always been an interesting category, one I'm very curious about, so...

comment below and I will do my best to rate you :)

Shrubs for the game "King's Alchemist"

To begin with, I created a sketch of how many stages of growth we will have. VdUGsExyqZI.jpg There are 2 frames to make, then the growth is quite fast and inconspicuous. Therefore, set the frame in 4 frames.

Then I drew in the vector the simplest model for the programmer, with which he can already work. Plants.png

It was decided not to make a large number of details, but then you need to work with color so that the plants can be easily seen on our background. It was very important.

Well, the result was such a result. Plants2.png 0pIJjCIikj.gif

Deep Space Prospector Gameplay

a player (@icxon) added a nice video of his playthrough of Deep Space Prospector, i wanted to share this with everyone...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdjSECR3amk

Deep Space Prospector is a mining/survival/exploration/space shooter with a nice mood to it (I hope). Roam the vast space of the cMonkeys Empire for precious energy. Upgrade your ship during your adventure to survive scavengers and be able to pay the Empire’s energy tax. Punishment for not paying your tax is death!

My Ludum Dare Experience

Well that was quite a ride, as always. I worked with two of my closest friends and I think we made something pretty weird and cool. Here's an analysis of how the event went and what I learned for the next one:
