Animation Week - post #02

Hello everyone~

This week, I am posting 3 (+1 surprise) animation breakdowns from our game~

Don’t miss them out! :fallen_leaf: (Check our previous post here)

Chilling mid week post with idle animation breakdown of the main character from Led Astray
Gosh, we need to find her a name...

Idle-Breakdown.gif

- hand-drawn frame by frame

I love practicing animation techniques and gamejams are one of the best chances to do so :green_heart:

Ofc, we didn't have enough time to make both 'inside idle' and 'outside idle' soo yeaah... it's windy inside the house AND the basement as well

How should we name our main character?? Leave your suggestions here or in the comment section of Led Astray and help us decide~! :bug:

SentIO

Do you like visual novels? There is something really touching but missed by a lot of people (only 15 reviews!). I have a feeling that there is a some problem with launch of the game, so small advice: if it's not running it doesn't mean it's not working. I'll add an additional hint here in comments to not spoil. Check it yourself - SentIO by @leorean and @simon-parzer

In total, our itch page has: - 46 downloads - 27 browser plays - 1 rating (Compared to 44 ratings on ldjam.com) - and 2 collections!

One of collections is also turned out to be a public list by @CookieNoir, called "LD47 Best" which is very flattering. Thank you! Collection.png.jpg

Re-Version is a puzzle game about time travel, buttons and cubes. You can press buttons and break cubes, all in your browser!!

A technical rundown of level transitions in SkyCrawler (part 2)

In part 1 I said that I try to make my levels flow one into the other. During the jam I chose to do it by keeping each level in a separate scene. It was easy to set up, but the solution was quite hacky and full of little annoyances.

For a post-jam update, I chose to reimplement this. Since I treat my levels as one continuous whole, the obvious solution would be to keep the geometry of each level in a separate "frame" on one scene.

lvl_showcase.gif

This made switching from one level to the next a lot more intuitive, plus, relieved me of all the hacks I used for playing platform's appearing animation.

But it came with it's own set of problems - I would now need to set up events for all the resetting that previously came naturally with reloading the scene.

Check out my game, SkyCrawler, and it's post-jam update, here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/skycrawler

Lucky Lefty Loves Juice

The key to a great game is "juice".

ezgif-6-f4d68c692e88.gif

All jokes aside, @dummydojo gave me some great advice for my game. I was only thinking about new features to make it a better game where they said it already does what it set out to do and the only thing really left is to add some "game feel" or "juice". They were also nice enough to explain what "game feel" was after I admitted ignorance  I am thinking about how I can fill my game with love and tiny details and will take this knowledge with me to future jams.
