Ludum Dare 46 April 17–20, 2020

The Final Few Hours

Hey everyone! This has been our first ever game jam and we have really enjoyed playing everyone's games. Before we run out of time we would love the get some more feedback on our game about a Genie trying to find a relic. We have made a port for Mac and Linux but we don't run those operating systems so if anyone could try it and let us know that would be awesome.

Our game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/the-genie-of-light

Third LD Compo, first time I'm interested in getting a rating. Got a minute?

This is my third Ludum Dare, and first where I'm satisfied enough with game that I'm even remotely interested in getting a rating  I'm 3-4 ratings short of the 20, and time is running out - if anyone feel like they'd have a few minutes to spare I'd sincerely appreciate any help getting over 20. I've been playing and rating games, but missed that only feedback matters for smart rating now, and managed to shoot myself in the foot here. I'm actually kinda proud of this one - minus the bugs.

* If you're here to rate games, why not try out my compo entry, "Defend the Loot!" The objective of the game is to defend the loot chest as waves of enemies attack you. Before each wave you get a minute to build up your base. There are 10 unique levels, getting to the end is not easy! *

You can find the game here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/defend-the-loot

Keep The Vibe Alive Only Needs ~2 More Ratings!

My game, Keep The Vibe Alive, is just a small handful of ratings away from the threshold that it needs. The game is built for SteamVR so it’s a little bit difficult to find an audience for it. If anyone is capable of giving it a go and rating it, I’d really appreciate it! 4.gif 5.gif Link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/keep-the-vibe-alive-vr

:purpleheart: Thanks for playing our game, from the whole CoG team. :purpleheart:

It was our first LD jam, and we had a blast. We managed to get an incredible amount of feedback, and plan on polishing the game and adding content in the next couple months - I even already started to work on the art again. If you're interested in following our adventure, you can keep the itch.io page handy : https://jmad.itch.io/consequences-of-gardening - and if you haven't played yet, now's the time, we would love to reach 80 ratings, and we're only missing a couple.

Congratulations to every single participant, there were some very impressive entries, and it was a pleasure to try as many games as possible.

Remember : don't follow strangers back to their place, you never know if they reaaaally like plants.

Cheers, see you next time!

Some Of My Favourite Games So Far

With Ludum Dare coming to an end I thought I'd share some of my favourite games so far. If you haven't already, check them out. They're all fantastic entries and deserve your support!

Save Your Wife!

By: @majagames @shubhamrathi @sparsha-dhar

Description
You and your wife are professional hunters. Your wife shoots a wolf and now is being attacked by a pack of wolves! You, as her husband have to save her!

My Thoughts
It’s a fun game with nice graphics. The throw your wife mechanic is both amusing and fun! Definitely up there for humour!

Mount Ookie

By: @stavu @jakier @brusi

Description
Once in a thousand years, the ancient Mount Ookie wakes from its slumber, and makes its journey to the safety of the world tree. But alas! A deadly swarm of mountain wasps tries to drain the Ookie from its life force. Protect the Ookie!

My Thoughts
A well polished game with amazing pixel art. Some solid controls and a concept that felt fresh. This was overall really fun!

THE SECRET FLAME

By: @drjedd @thomas-lean

Description
Most have given up. Will you go all the way?

My Thoughts
A well polished game with a gorgeous pixel art environment and nice illustrations for each character. The story felt complete and the puzzles were a nice addition. It deserves more attention than it's had, so check it out!

Ubergine

By: @curleyrach @olliemotion @curleysam

Description
You must water the Ubergine until it is fully grown whilst keeping the hipsters that are trying to eat it at bay!

My Thoughts
Such a fun and silly concept that works as such a great game! Controlling two characters at once is challenging to begin with, but that’s all part of the experience and fun. The graphics for this are great but my favourite part has to be the faces on the ubergine!

Play It Here

Mr. Cheesy

By: @savvu

Description
Slide down that Cheese Grater and since the theme of Ludum Dare 46 is "Keep it alive"...try not to end up on that Spaghett! 🍝

My Thoughts
A very well polished game that fit the theme well. The animations for Mr. Cheesy are funny and it's a great concept overall. What's even more impressive is the game now has a post-jam android version. Can't wait to see what comes next!

Hope

By: @darylsteak

Description
A puzzle game / walking simulator set in the apocalypse.

When the world goes to hell and the zombie apocalypse rages on, there are rumors that there’s a band of survivors deep within Russia, with food, water, and supplies.

Your only hope of getting there is in the form of a train;

and you must keep that train working.

You must keep that train alive.

My Thoughts
I have a soft spot for zombie games, but this one is fantastic. The visuals are consistent and nice and the overall concept is achieved to a very high standard. The puzzles are really fun and well thought out, they hit that perfect level of difficulty where you have to think but aren't stuck forever. It deserves all the ratings it's had.

Learn how to make a game in Godot for the next game jam!

Hey everyone and congrats on making it through LD46! This has been such a cool event even despite everything going on right now. Our team has been playing a lot of games we missed over the last couple days and I'm excited to make another pass at some other games today before voting ends.

I wanted to post this here in case anyone has been curious or interested in using Godot for a game jam (or just in general) and is looking for a place to start. I'm currently creating a tutorial series for making a top-down shooter in Godot and it's beginner friendly, so feel free to check it out if you're interested. Link is here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpwc3ughKbZexDyPexHN2MXLliKAovkpl

Feel free to drop a link in the comments to your game here and I'll try and get to them today. Congrats again to everyone for submitting a game, especially if this was your first game jam!
