Less than a day left! :O

But we are 2 (or 4?) ratings away from getting a score. It's not great, and really needs a tutorial, but if a few of you great people could help a feller out I'd much appreciate it. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/sim-cell
As Ludum Dare voting is wrapping up we wanted to give thanks to the tools developers that have helped us along the way. Without these fine folks we wouldn't have gotten along nearly as far as we did with our game!

First a shout out to Daniel Kvarfordt Danik112 who develops Pyxel Edit! This pixel editor is extremely valuable for doing animations and tile sets. Honestly I’m more comfortable with Photoshop after many years using it, this jam I found myself going straight to Pyxel, skipping Photoshop more often than not. Get Pyxel Edit here! https://pyxeledit.com/get.php

For some of our animations, it was quicker to get attractive solutions using tools from CodeManuPro and DavitMasia! For some particle effects we using Pixel FX Designer. I’ve created so many great particles with this engine, and it’s great for exporting to pixel art and looping it. There are so many options to experiment with, It’s really fun to just tinker around with this tool making weird pixel effects. Get Pixel FX Designer here! https://codemanu.itch.io/particle-fx-designer

To save some more time, we used JuiceFX to do some idle, hit, and break animations. These kinds of animations can be tedious by hand, JuiceFX really makes them a snap! JuiceFX is also from creators CodeManuPro and DavitMasia, you can get it here! https://codemanu.itch.io/juicefx

We also used Photoshop and Illustrator for some of the larger graphics in our game. I did try to use TileSetter https://led.itch.io/tilesetter for our tile set, but I couldn't quite get it to work properly and to agree with GameMaker Studio. I'd also like to give Smear FX https://codemanu.itch.io/smear-fx a try, it was too close to the jam for me to pick up a new tool.

All these assets were brought into Game Maker Studio 2 to make Fleur Defense and we’re overjoyed with the game we could put together for the jam. A huge thanks to these tools developers who give back to the community and making Fleur Defense a reality!
Try Fleur Defense Now! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/fleur-defense

Discover if you can beat our game before the time's up! Post your score on the game's page to brag - evaluating is hella cool too! Wanna be rad? I wanna see your bones'n roll energy.

The art direction for Wayward was pretty straight forward. It was knot tied up in extraneous "details" the way it can be sometimes...
Imagine a path: What it means to go straight, to turn, to ignore direction, to be lost.

When you know which way you want to go, the movements feel less forced - almost involuntary. But feeling lost is a totally manual process. There is no light to tell you where to go. It is an oscillation between manual and auto pilot, conscious and subconscious, trying to find the flow and submitting to it once it takes hold. Sometimes we don't know where this flow will take us but it's comforting to know we could take our hands off the wheel if we wanted to.

The feeling of being at home is a good thing. The feeling of being lost is also a good thing. Whichever way you choose to wander is fine, because moving forward is always progress.

Thank you all for an excellent Jam. Keep moving forward.

There is less than a day left for the classifications to finish. If you haven't played my game, I'd appreciate it if you could and give me your opinion for a future release :)

* There is only 16 hours left! If you haven't played my compo entry, "Defend the Loot!" why not give it a try? In the game you have to defend the loot chest as waves of enemies attack you. Before each wave you get a minute to build up your base. There are 10 levels, and getting to the end won't be easy! *
You can find the game here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/defend-the-loot
Also, drop a link to your game in the comments and I'll give it a rating. I'll try to get through them all.

Psst: I still need a few ratings over here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/danger-in-the-city
Thanks a bunch! :)
"Danger in the City" is all about driving fast to escape a terrible enemy who is ready to destroy every building in the city just to crush you.

From a technical perspective, I had a lot of fun making this game without any game engine and with tools I usually make websites with but not games! I used TypeScript with React and Three.js (through React Three Fiber).
I started by making the 3D asset of the car which is something I hadn't done in years. I love the Wings3D program for quick 3D designs, it's really easy to understand and use, even if it's less advanced than Blender.
Here you can see the first draft of the car based on a 2D drawing I've found somewhere on the internet. I really wanted to have that retrowave/outrun aesthetic so I went for the classic sport coupé car design.

I added a few simple colors to see what it could look like. You'll notice the wheels were missing at that point.

I ended up going for a nicer red color in the end. Wheels were added (woohoo) but not animated (sad face).

I loaded everything into a Three.js scene and implemented the level generation, a grid of block-shaped towers. I also added code to make those towers explode into blocks. I didn't really have time to do fancy designs for those so I used simple polygons. I spent way too much time tweaking the materials in the scene to look just right, that took sooooo long. Since I didn't have a game engine, I spent some time implementing the controls and the physics themselves. I had a few gameplay elements I wanted to add but I've had to cut them.

Finally, I added the title screen in the last minutes to seal the deal, as well as the win/lose screens and animations.

Checkout the game over here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/danger-in-the-city
I still need a few ratings and I'd appreciate your feedback on the game.
I'm really happy with the camera (smooth car-chase camera goodness) and graphics, which I spent quite some time polishing (I should have kept more time for the gameplay haha). See you after the finish line. :v:
Here is my game. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/do-androids-dream-of-electric-sheep

Hi! I know the game jam happened a month ago, but I really wanted to write about working on the effects and look of my game since I learned a lot while I was doing it. Give it a read here: https://mikdionio.itch.io/anti-matter/devlog/145561/smoke-and-mirrors
Also, if you haven't already, try out my game and leave a rating here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/anti-matter
Comment your games too and I'll try my best to play and rate them all.
