Bosca ceoil is an app for making music, but the instruments sound really bad. Please don't use it. Especially the percussion. It sounds like someone blowing into a microphone. It's sometimes better to just not have any music, then to have bad one.
You can create a better app and then we will all use it.
@thornest Yes, and it will be made in unity! It's a great idea! Thank you!
It could very well happen that nobody likes it or sound bad. It could very well be that someone criticized it in a destructive way. Who nows.
@franciszek-pyrc Hello, buddy. Then what would be an alternative software? Any links, titles would be appreciated. Cheers!
@room606 There's other software that maybe isn't as simple, but it's better still. I don't know much, but I use lmms.
woww good thanks
@room606
I generally use Sibelius (paid) or MuseScore (free), which are great if you have a background in music.
There's also BeepBox, which is more general purpose and looks vaguely similar to bosca ceoil based on a quick look at the latter. I've used BeepBox once or twice, and it's a nice quick tool for chiptune.
There's also Pytchie, a tool I developed to procedurally generates music, but the synthesis is pretty primitive and it's still a work in progress.
Edit: a word
@jeremy-ryan Hey, Pytchie is a cool tool with the awesome potential. I even submitted few PRs there in the past! Thank you for this project.
@jeremy-ryan Isn't Sibelius a sheet composing application and not a music making application? I know that you can export your sheet music as an audio file, but still. Also good job of not going insane, from what I've heard.
I compiled a list of useful resources for your ludum dare entry!

i'll have you know i'm gonna be voting for the shrugface
I'm a little worried that the majority of the themes haven't really called to me. I felt that for a lot of game jams. And so I took a look at my favorites and compared them. It didn't take long to come up with a general rule that seemed to apply to all the themes pretty well.
Dan's theme rule:
Any word in the theme should inspire how each team member sees the game. I.e. A theme word should pull up visuals and game mechanics and sound and story...
For instance, Global Game Jam's previous theme, "No Place Like Home" didn't really thrill me. "Home" brought up images, but none of the other words did. Home did not really lend itself to game mechanics, or sounds. It sort of lent itself to story, but not in any way that felt strong. Now don't get me wrong. Most teams came up with games. Mine did. (a snail trying to makes its way through different parts of the house, where you played in VR, and could run up walls. - it was a fast snail) But it was more the comradery that made it worth while to do so. I'm sure that theme may have worked great for a few. But I think over all it was harder to connect to.
Some words that do work for this rule: (for me anyway) - Apocalypse - Adding a some concepts to this first one as an example. - Story: Stopping an Apocalypse, building up from the ruins, restarting civilization, even trying to grow a farm to get enough to eat. - Visuals: world in ruins or could be going that way. - Mechanics: escaping zombies, finding supplies, running game even - Sound: Could be horror/zombie, could be intense/fast paced, could be slow/environmental - Escape - Dark - Fire - Transmission - Social - Survive - Destroy - Faster - Distraction
On ideas that don't lend them selves to helping shape every role's perspective, I typically think it is far more biased. I.e. I like "Surviving on less" but worry I'm biased, because it encompasses a particular game concept or two that I was interested in, not because the theme words really help shape all parts of the game. I.e. "Surviving" works for the rule, but "Less" does not. However, "less" in this case provides direction and shaping for surviving. I'm not sold on a rule that allows for this. For that matter, I'm not 100% sold on my rule as is, but for now it seems pretty sound.
I'd love to hear opinions on this.
Similar problems with the previous GGJ theme. "What home means to you" is much narrower and less immediately inspiring, especially compared to their history of great themes like "transmission" and "repair."
I'm personally fond of one-word themes with multiple interpretations, that can at minimum be used as inspiration for a mechanic or for a narrative.
@jeremy-ryan Does these themes work for you even tho they are not one word?
Rockets are the future
A practical superhero
Everything is around the sun
I'll clarify that I don't only like one-word themes, but I think a lot of themes tend to be too restrictive.
I'll use your third one as an example ("Everything is around the sun"). I would argue that "Around the sun" is a better theme, since it still provides similar thematic inspiration but omits the "everything" that might shut down an otherwise good game idea.
I had a similar qualm with "Sacrifices must be made" as a theme. "Sacrifice" as a theme would have been great in my opinion, and it makes you think of anything from personal sacrifice to ritual sacrifice to sacrifice as an emergent gameplay element, as in chess. The remaining three words don't invoke any actual inspiration, they just restrict how you can interpret the theme. A jammer may have a game idea where you choose between sacrificing a piece or getting a permanent debuff --- they might discard this idea because the "must be made" suggests a mandatory sacrifice, and they may lose points in Theme for players with this stricter interpretation in mind.
Often, this means themes can be broken down into a single word, but not always. My personal theme suggestions this time (although I may change them before theme suggestion closes) are Connections, Cycle, and Pressure.
I guess that doesn't directly answer your question, but I hope it helps. Theme preference is also entirely personal and some themes I would think are inspirational may fall flat on other developers.

I tend to have a slight bias towards building simulation or mechanics. My submission tend not to have any level designs. I hope to do some type of level design in this LD.
All right, mates. I spent some time in thinking bubble and here's what I've got for you:

Or the same in copy-pasteable text format: - Dismantle to progress - In a loop - Armor suit is a key feature
Comments would be appreciated! Cheers!
"in a loop" would be a really good game idea
@garlic Thanks for the feedback! And thanks for sharing my POV.
And who can advise me on a good writing service? Looks like publishing failed.
And who can advise me on a good writing service?
My success rate has been rather less than ideal these past few years. When I think about why, I come up with the usual reasons.
1 is a bad excuse, 2 is fixable, and 3 just needs better planning.
For 1 if the theme is stupid, I'll embrace the stupid.
For 2, I'm going back to my own rather ancient set of libraries and tools. Ye olde GrogLibs
For 3, I'm going to try to get something running in just 4-8 hours. Then I can spend the rest of the weekend on improvements (at least that's the plan).
After missing out on the last jam or two I'm glad to be back at it again! This time around I have a couple more helpers, so I'm hoping we can make something really awesome with the theme we get!
Speaking of themes, here are my suggestions: - Minute to win it - It comes naturally - It never ends

HELO GAIS HEY DO U LAIK MI THEMS TO THIS YEER?

Decided to join up even though I have not created a game before.
(Except for a simple console based battleships game + turning cards game in swift at school).
This is going to go so well ... ... setting the bar at not completing, I can always only surprise myself positively.
(Curious to see where this blog appears - be it on my profile or else where).
Regardless, suggested the following themes: - The unknown beyond - The roads not traveled - Walls of isolation
... and if any of them are chosen I am pretty clueless on what I will make. I guess time will tell.
Half a year really just flashes by what the hecc.. amazing

LD42 : Animal Wrath
LD41 : Skate'n'Snipe

Check my other jams games.
See you soon!
Because of the corona-virus, LD46 is likely to be a real online gamejam.
I tried to make them sound cool but also remain open enough to have different interpretations.
good luck dude i like "all in the name", sounds like a theme everyone will complain about but will lead to good games
