A bit of a late start, but I’m in.

I’ve got a pretty good idea of what I’d like to make and some interesting things to do with it, just having a tough time deciding which framework to use.

It’ll either be: Flixel; Thomas Jahn’s FlixelTMX parser; or GameMaker and  SimplXML; Tiled  Photoshop, and probably sfxr or the like for sound.

Finally, some progress!

After spending way too long deciding what I wanted to build this project in, I finally chose GameMaker. Then I spent way too much time working on a tile/object loader from Tiled.

Have a basic room with floors, ladders, one-way platforms, and doors that are loaded from Tiled, at the moment. Next, loading and moving to a new room!

I’m In!

Whether I’ll stick closely to the theme or not, well, probably not. :)

Engine/Language: Most likely GameMaker and GML. Considering Unity but it probably won’t happen.

Tools:

Photoshop / Paint.net / Maybe Graphics Gale.

Probably SFXR for sound.

Tiled, as maybe the Tiled2GM Importer

or a Tiled GM Importer I wrote of my own utilizing the SimplXML scripts for GameMaker (hosting here)

Caffeine of choice: Probably way too much Coke and Rockstar Juiced.

Pretty happy with how things are moving along, though I need to finish wrapping up the mechanics and start moving on to art and level design.

I’ve got the basics of 3 weapons, 2 enemies, and going to implement the rest of the framework for the powerup/suicide machine system.  Felt like I lost a lot of time early on re-coding basic player and enemy code that I could have just taken from other projects if I’d thought to declare it ahead of time.

Time for some rest

About 90% of mechanics are in, just need to tie up the rest and continue on with arting, and then some level design.

Before I sleep though, I have to show *something*
