LD20

Let’s do this thing!

My first Ludum Dare, hoorah!

The tool’s I’ll be using:

  • FlashPunk (for Engine), FlashPunk for the IDE
  • GraphicsGale/Paint.net/GIMP for graphics stuff
  • as3fxr & Audacity  for sound stuff
  • Ogmo Editor for stages.

Still deciding if I’m doing the Jam or comp, I guess it’ll depend on how well I’m going come 48hrs.  Bring it and good luck everybody :)

A possible idea?: Target Market

A very broad theme, but workable :)

You play a shop keeper who specializes in equipment and items for adventurers. Your goal is to speak to your patrons and convince them they need a item. Whenever you speak to a adventurer, you can select the kind of conversation you want to have and then fill the spaces using a list of verbs.  Depending on if you made a sale or not you gain points based on how far a leap you made (Like getting a warrior to buy a staff) and how well you catered to their traits (possibly randomly generated?). Points can be used to buy enhancements (like shopping music, a larger vocabulary, etc).

Gonna start making a quick and dirty prototype after a snack run!

Yeah I know, that was part inspiration for my idea. The other was Man bites dog :)

Yay, Progress!

Getting there :) Done the word selection system, next up on the list:

– Making the graphics and interface clash less & prettier

– The ability to choose new sentences (and actually write them :P)

– Grading

– People loitering around the shop (who will leave if they aren’t attended to in enough time)

All stuff to handle tomorrow… In the meantime, some 30 rock and then sleep. Night all!

Day 2 Progress

I'm hoping I can come up with some better than "Sir Knight"

Getting there, bit by bit… Waking up late and feeling groggy for the better part of the day, progress was slow, but meaningful, as I managed to get most of the elements in place for what will be the hardest mechanic of the game to pin down: the grading system. I also changed the font size of the words to fit more them in the windows (and also changed  the windows to speech & thought bubbles).

Still to do:

  • Inventory selection (used for difficulty rating) & Grading system based on what sentence is chosen & the words used in the sentences.
  • Animation, more adventurers & filling up the shop with knicks and knacks.
  • SFX (There’s no way I can make music this close to the deadline unless I’m going for the Jam)
  • Upgrades (if I have enough time)

Hmm… May have to pull a all nighter… But on the bright side I have chocolate & coffee!
