I’ve done a few LD compos in the past. Also one Jam in order to work with a friend. Each time I do them I learn something and this time was no different. Although I didn’t get as much out of this one as I have the previous ones.
My compo started off very slowly. For some reason the theme just wasn’t inspiring any interesting ideas. After two hours of wasted thinking I just went with a mechanic that I wanted to try out in a game. Making it fit the theme came a bit later and it’s a stretch to say the least.
Check out the game if you have a few minutes.
In Kamikaze Dive Bomber you manipulate the internals of your ship (there’s the theme connection – beneath the surface of your ship) which determines what weapon you have for that round. Unfortunately I only had time to get three weapons in the game, but they are all pretty different in the strategy that you have to use to win, which is what I was going for.
Even though the game didn’t turn out as fun as I had hoped and I had virtually no time for polish, I still consider this one a success. It has been too long since I had time to sit down and just make a game for a weekend. That will change soon since Summer is on the way, and this was a great way to get back in the swing of gamedev.
