Chaoslab entry

Escape Time!

Going for 48!

Programming
Java / Eclipse / Eldian (if needed, my own IDE, you wouldn’t like it)

LWJGL / Slick2D / Lib / JMF (maybe) / My own Sprite stuff (in zip)

GIT – Digital Asset Management and having my back as I hack

Paint Shop Pro

Hand Drawn and Painted Art.

Sound / Music
Ableton Live, Audacity.

My Libraries

My Source Code files

Chaoslab – Escape Forest 2012, primary release

This is the primary release. Escape – Forest 2012 – Version 1.123 – 48 hour game entry

Requires

Java  –  http://www.java.com/en/download/
JMF  (for music) – http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/download-142937.html

It does have spelling errors and was uploaded over an hour and a half ago

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38895459/ludum_d21/ludum_d21.zip

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38895459/ludum_d21/run_game.bat

Just unzip the zip file and copy the run_game.bat file into the install directory (forgot to put it in the zip /facepalm).

Just click the run_game.bat file once you’ve copied it into the install directory

Its a quirky text adventure with some scanned pencil drawings with graphics touch ups in Paint Shop Pro,  lots grammatical and spelling mistakes (had to find them after uploading eh? that’s lysdexia for ya! 😉 and over 30 minutes of music.

Runs on the Macintosh (Should be ok with Linux) from the command line
java ludum.Escape

If  I have time and energy I might do a secondary release to fix some spelling mistakes and slight glitches.

:-)

Regards

Cameron Mckechnie

Quick project stat’s

– 15 pencil drawings reworked in Paint Shop Pro

– 30 minutes of original music in (3 tracks in mp3).

– over 54,000 characters of new source written during the process and included

Bug #1:

You don’t need to hit the Champion button to get the video url it gets copied to the text buffer when you finish the game (might do it continuously)

That wont make sense till you complete it and there’s another trail to follow after that….

Gonna give it a crack ladies and gentlemen, Best of luck and good shout outs to all.

A vision has formed and I am ok with it, little dark but humorous none the less.

Using my previous entries code semi butchered to the new Dev layout.

Caveat – You are playing this game entirely on one screen called “your computer monitor”! 😉

Didn’t quite make it, here is a screen shot any way.

ATech Island – Sorry I did not quite make it in time!

release_progress_07

Will fiddle about with this game any way as I am curious to see how it plays…

Good luck every one.  :-)

You know there ain’t no rest from the chicken…

Eldian (my own IDE for writing Chaoslab VJ) editing Sprites and Animations for Bubbles and Slugs

Chickens in! No slug will be safe!

“I was the tortoise” this time, gonna be a very simple game for the jam. My first arcade entry.

:-)  back too it!

Bubbles and Slugs Retrospective!

Hello fellow entrants.  Here is a small retrospective of my Bubbles and Slugs submission.

Good things

  • First completed arcade entry.
  • Felt like I delivered a complete game and I am still playing it.
  • Just kept moving (even if you don’t like the theme or things are going slowly).
  • Stuck to core simple concepts, just get some bubbles and slugs up and about.
Then gave them something to eat and something to eat them!
  • The most relax Ludum I have had.

Things to work on

  • Check for stability on machines that have never had any develop applications installed.
  • Making something with more content next time (Only 8 levels).
  • Would of nice to have the game playable earlier.

Skipped Best Practice
Even though it did not matter in the end I did not follow some of my standard advice,  such as…

  • Push momentum early and get it playable asap. (not playable till the last 24 hours)
  • General design on paper and have an overall plan. (two pages of sparse notes)
  • Do / Code the game only.  Just keep pushing hard. (some leisure time in first 2 days).
  • Work through most of that final night (slept as normal).

Unexpected things learned
Themes can be a pain and if they are just make fun of it! Joke and laugh at it.  Pretty soon you will have something to work with that amuses you.

Regardless of pace things worked out in the end.

:-)
