LD26

Hi

I’m hoping to enter this weekend. I will probably not drink coffee and stay up all night. Jam FTW :3

Anyway, I’m already juggling around some ideas. If it’s one of those themes that may result in an ‘art game’, I might make an illustrated text adventure.

If it’s Potato, well, I have a million ideas. I won’t tell you any of them, even if most of them are obvious.

Theme voting is fun 馃榾

So, if I do enter, play my game (web based, definitely), if not, I look forward to playing all your games.

I鈥檓 in, I hope

First time entering. Hope I can do it 馃榾

Tools (most likely, depends on the theme)

  • Processing
  • Gimp OR PyxelEdit
  • FL Studio

I’m so nervous :(

don’t be nervous :)

Meh

Well, this LD was definitely a learning experience for me. I learned a lot about thinking realistically about the scope of your project. Originally, I wanted my game to have a cool dynamic lighting engine, but I spent so much time trying to figure that out (and failing) that I had to rush just to finish a simple shooter.

Next LD I’ll use JavaScript instead of Processing, and vote for a weekend that works for me. This time it wasn’t a great weekend to do it :(

I won’t win anything, as I’ve gotten a lot of negative feedback about the way the game feels and it’s a pretty simple game anyways, but it was fun.

Looking forward to see what everyone won, and see you all next Ludum Dare 馃榾

I鈥檓 in

Hello LDers! For the LD26, I made an awful 2D shooter. I originally had big plans for it but time and technical constraints got in the way.

For the MiniLD 43, I’m hoping to make an AWESOME RTS! I think that it will be a lot like The Space Game, but with the ability to design your units’ AI.

  • Language: JavaScript with HTML5
  • Library: None! I’m a bit of a purist when it comes to JS. EDIT: HowlerJS for sound
  • Beverage: Orange juice. Most pulp. I’m weird.
  • IDE: Notepad++. I’m too lazy to get a proper IDE. Actually, maybe I should do that right now.
  • Art: I’ll avoid ‘programmer art’ and instead do programmatic art – very abstract stuff drawn in the code (no assets to load!). If all goes well, that will look a lot better than anything I could draw. Also, I lost the stylus to my tablet.
  • Music: FL Studio, Express edition. Since Express Edition sucks and is discontinued anyway, I should probably fork over another $59.99 to upgrade. Some other week.
  • Did I cheat?: Yes. Life will definitely get in the way over the next week, so I started on the GUI yesterday. So far, I have just over 200 lines of (highly padded) JavaScript. My apologies to all those who will spend the entire week, starting tomorrow, no earlier, with Red Bull and their computer. Don’t worry, I probably won’t finish.

I’m very excited! I’ll probably stream it on Twitch. See you there!

 also I’m 12

I鈥檓 in!

Hi! I’ll be participating in LD 27, my second LD! It’s a weekend that works perfectly for me, for once.

Language: JavaScript/HTML5
Framework: Probably nothing. Maybe howler.js for sound.
Graphics: Likely programmatic. Maybe Gimp. If I can order a new pen in time (I lost it) my tablet.
Sound: FL Studio or LMMS.
Food: Canned chili. Chocolate milk.
Streaming: XSplit.

I’m psyched!

See you there!

I鈥檓 streaming!

I鈥檝e been streaming for a while now but I haven鈥檛 gotten any viewers. I鈥檓 a 12-year-old developer who is making a game using JavaScript/HTML5. Watch and I will be happy

Progress!

Just kidding, after four hours I got a black square drawn on the screen. Goodnight.

D:

I didn鈥檛 finish my game in time.

But I like where it鈥檚 going so I might try to finish it anyway :D

Postmortem

I didn’t get my game finished. :(

What went right:

  • My art. I barely got any done, but it turned out well.
  • My second idea. I like the idea, and think it could be fun if it was actually a game.
  • Early code. The week before the compo, I started working on a game library. I found that having a bit of base code really helped, and whenever I needed a fairly generic feature (sprites, A*, etc) I added it to the library instead of my main code.
  • I can’t think of anything else :/

What went wrong:

  • My first idea. After briefly brainstorming, I started implementing an impractical idea for an inexperienced dev like me. I threw it away on Saturday afternoon after bugs that I couldn’t fix got in the way and I realized how impractical it was.
  • Distractions. I didn’t have any caffeine and I was exhausted and unmotivated, and even while streaming, my brain was constantly busy trying to figure out some way to distract itself from the task at hand.

tl;dr: No caffeine, impractical idea, distractions.

You can play my game in neverland.

Cheer up, it happens! Sometimes you just can’t really pull off a good idea for the theme and no matter what you do, you end up distracting yourself from the task. I don’t know, sometimes you are just not in the mood, you know? Already happened to me, at least! :)

In, a little late

Hi! I’m in for the jam. I’m not yet experienced enough in Flash so I’m going to use HTML5 for my game.

Tools:

  • HTML5/CSS3/Javascript
  • Sublime Text 3
  • Firefox+Firebug
  • Gimp and/or Pickle, depending on my idea

Hopefully I can complete this jam for once.

shit

I still don’t really have an idea. I hate this theme.

Proposal

So you know how there have been unofficial, secondary themes in previous jams, like Potato and Kittens? I propose that we should implement Pepsi Consultant into our games somehow, just for fun.

I might be in.

I’m going to try next week, but I might not have enough time. Here’s my info anyway:

  • Language: Javascript, HTML5
  • OS: Ubuntu 14.04
  • IDE: Sublime Text 3
  • Streaming: none, because it’s just been a distraction in the past.
  • Music and SFX: LMMS
  • Art: Pickle or Gimp
