What I got for my One Day Mark

1

This is what I got for my one day mark. For now, you can switch through the three lanes, shoot, and collect money. Enemies will be other cars attempting to kill you. Still have a lot more left to do though. Not sure how I’m going to incorporate the theme yet…

Little Tips For You 1st Ludum Darers

Just have some little tips for you 1st Ludum Darers I want to share.

Making Your Game

*If you don’t finish making a game, DON’T WORRY because you’re not alone and it’s only your first.

*GAMEPLAY is what’s important! Yes, good Graphics are nice, good Music is nice as well. When people are having fun playing a game, they’re having fun because the gameplay itself is fun. Graphics, Music, and other things definitely help, but when you have 48-72 hours to create something… Shoot for the gameplay, work on the mechanics for the game first. Make all the Graphics rectangles, and forget about the sound for now. You don’t even need to turn in your entry with a title screen, splash screen, or whatever. On the last day you can change the graphics, but earlier on just focus on the gameplay.

*THEME isn’t as important as you think it is (although it is still important). If you can think of a game idea revolving around the theme in an hour or two, awesome, if you can’t than just start making a game and then later you can incorporate the theme. Let’s say the theme sucks (in your opinion), and you can’t think of anything, just start making an endless runner (for example) and then when you find out how to incorporate the theme incorporate it.

Post Compo/Jam

*If you haven’t finished your game (which is probably the case), try to finish/polish it even though your entry is already in. Add the link to the Post Compo/Jam version of your game along with the 48/72 hr version so people can play both of them. Not only does it make you feel better about yourself, but it can also persuade people to possibly give you better ratings based on your Post Compo/Jam version.

*RATE GAMES! Rate as many games as possible, along with comments. The more games you rate, the more times your game shows up on the front page. Comments help as well because some people will look at their comments and click your name to see your game. If you can rate more than about 250 games your game may show up on the Most Coolness page which would be awesome (but it’s very difficult to do). If you don’t rate any games then just about no one will see your game, so RATE GAMES!

Good Luck to Everyone Participating in LD 31!

My 1st Night of LD 31

ld_31_1st_night

This is what I got for my first night. Making an endless runner, maybe a rhythm game? Haven’t developed a character yet, but that will be for tomorrow. It’s now 4:45 am, I should probably go to bed.

My 24 Hour Mark

My 24 hour mark, so far so good! 😀

My 2nd Night Working on my Rhythm Game

ld_31_2nd_night

So today I accomplished making a small bit of music. My game is a runner (with levels, (eventually)), it’s like a rhythm game. Made clouds that bounce to the beat, and changed the color of things to the beat as well. I’m currently working on my first level, hard coding when to jump, landings, and collectibles in the right places to fit in with the music. I hope I can get out a level or two for tomorrow. I’m calling my game, Moving Melody. It’s so fun working on this with music too.

Some Tips For You First Ludum Darers

Got some little tips for you 1st Ludum Darers I want to share. This will be my 6th LD, so these tips are just from my experience.

Making Your Game

Post Compo/Jam

*If you haven’t completely finished your game (which is probably the case), try to finish/polish it even though your entry is already in. Good Luck to Everyone Participating in LD 32! I got a feeling this one will be great!

Thanks for that!

Really insightful for first timers like me

My 24 Hour Mark

24_hour

This is my 24 hour mark. You can throw a frisbee back and forth to kill enemies (which I shall create soon). The game is set on a train, you just can’t really tell yet; There are three separate carts. Need to make more art, and need to draw that green character as a dog actually. c:

I Should Have Rated More Games This Time

I only played and rated 64 games for Ludum Dare this time. Kind of sad. I usually rate 150-250 games. D:

If this was your first LD, GOOD JOB! If this was not your first, GOOD JOB! If you didn’t make a game, but you rated games, GOOD JOB!

Overall, GOOD JOB GUYS. c:

LD33

I’m in, With FL Studio This Time!

Hello! LD33 will be my 7th Ludum Dare, and I’m excited! This time I’m going to be Streaming Live on Twitch. c:

The tools I’ll be using:

  • Languages: JavaScriptHTML5
  • Graphics: Paint & Paint.NET
  • Audio: Sfxr & FL Studio (Finally bought the Producer Edition)

This (below) is the last track I made with FL Studio, what do you think?

This track can get just a little repetitive, so check out my other tracks over on my Soundcloud! c:

Good post, nice to help out people who are new! I’m going to nitpick though haha. I thought the Theme advice might not necessarily apply to everyone’s personal workflow. I might be in the minority, but sometimes when thinking up concepts (both solo and with a partner) it tends to take anywhere from the first 4-12 hours to settle on something before starting (including sleep, the theme is announced at 9pm for me so sometimes I need to sleep on it).

Yeah I usually design the entire game off of the theme, mechanics, genre, and all. I’ve never started developing before solidifying the idea, but that’s just how I (strongly) prefer to do it. 😛

Check Out My Game and the Music!

all

Check out my Simple Minimalistic entry, Perspective! This game switches between both the Top Down and Side View Perspectives. Although, the Perspective of the whole world doesn’t change, just the player’s. You’ll see what I mean when you check it out. c:

You can listen to the music right here too. How is it?

7 Ludum Dare Results and Their Graphs

I’ve participated in 7 Ludum Dares now. My first time was in April of 2013. I’ve loved it ever since. It’s one of my favorite events of the year! Below are the Graphs of the Results of all the LDs I’ve been in. And remember, the better the results, the smaller the graphs.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Looks like my best LD Overall was LD 32, Frisbee Training. Although I am super glad with my results for this last LD, Perspective. Top 25 for Innovation is awesome! And Top 100 for Audio is nice too! Thanks for playing and rating my games! All of you that participate in Ludum Dare ROCK! And all of you that aren’t joining in, JOIN IN because you’re missing out! c:

Anyway, Good Luck Ludum Darers!

What I’ve got so far. Can finally move anywhere you want with still only 9 circles existing. I’ll explain the concept later on. c:

Here’s what I got so far: Don’t hit the arcs, move for score. Later on I will add obstacles and power-ups but I’m just making a very simple classic arcade-like game. c:

It’s 3 am so, Goodnight!
