Better Parsing: First Update

Hey!

I have created a tool that is still being worked on for MiniLD51 -Revenge of the Tool Jam. It’s called Better Parsing for Java. This is made for easier data saving to files, and dummy-proofing user input in games. For example: You could ask the user his/her age, and the user replies, “I am 14.” The Better Parsing would read the whole line, and pick out 14 from that String, and convert it to an Integer. With save files, you could save the data “Can Fly = false” and Better parsing could load that String, pick out “false”, and convert it to a Boolean. Right now there are Integers, Booleans, Doubles, and Bytes. I plan on more to come!

I streamed the whole thing, which you can find here.

Have a great day!

Preparing for LD30

Hey!

For LD30, I will be programming in Java. I still am working on mastery, and have not yet memorized certain things, like audio, and some graphical things. This is why I am creating a game engine of sorts. Something to make audio, graphics, and input easy and flexible to use. I will upload it somewhere, create some documentation, and make another post so you guys can download and use it.

My name for it right now is Yamanu. Other ideas are greatly appreciated!

I’m really excited about the next compo! Are you guys?

You should consider using LibGdx. It’s a library for Java that makes it so much easier to make games. It has graphics, audio and input support. I think it’s better to use it than to make it yourself.

or you could use my library. its got *most* things squared off, and will soon future a tile engine and improved input. other then that it currently has great customization (size, scale , fullscreen ect).

Yamanu Game Engine 1.0

Hey!

A couple of days ago, I said I would make a game engine to better help the creation of 2D Java games, which is what I make, and I can tell you, this engine is SO helpful! The download, documentation, and source can be found here: http://www.yamanu-game-engine.zzl.org

Take a look!

Thanks!

Yamanu Game Engine 1.0 – Video

Hey!

There were some people who downloaded and used Yamanu 1.0, and so I thought, if the documentation wasn’t thorough enough, then a video would be okay to show! Here it is:

(Sorry, couldn’t embed it the way I wanted)

You’re welcome!

Yamanu Game Engine – 1.1

Hey there!

The response to 1.0 was great, I really appreciate it! Now, we have Yamanu 1.1! This one mainly added some profiling and utilities. My favorite of which would be the processor information. You can get the processor vendor, and speed very easily with Yamanu!

Basic Application (Made with Yamanu)

Thanks guys! There will be a video out soon explaining the basic app, and how YGEApplication works! Sorry the website’s down. It’s a free website. If I get enough support, I might pay for hosting and a domain, so you guys can have a place to go for all of this instead of me putting it in a post on Ludum Dare. Anyways, have fun!

EDIT: Nothing has been tested on Mac yet, so if anyone that has a Mac wants to play around with Yamanu, go ahead! Email me here to tell me if there’s anything wrong.

Why would anyone (i mean any one) want to get processor vendor in java? That a kick in the face to everybody who worked so hard to make java MUFTI-PLATFORM.

I don’t know, maybe someone will use Yamanu as a way to make a System Information application, and that’s just an easy way to get the vendor and speed.

Yamanu 1.1 – Video

Hey guys!

I have a video demonstrating how to use the newest features of Yamanu version 1.0!

Thanks for the support everyone! I already have some downloads for everything uploaded! Again, if there are problems you find, let me know and I will fix them!

Excited! I’m In!

First time competing in Ludum Dare, so I hope all is well!

Code: Java

IDE: Eclipse (Obviously)

Library: Yamanu (?)

Audio: Bfxr, LMMS, Maybe more…

Graphics: GIMP, InkScape

I’m using Linux, so hopefully everything works out okay for all platforms! I will also unfortunately not be able to export to the web as an applet, because I don’t know how to do that yet. Crap. It’ll have to be downloaded, but I’ll try and keep the file sizes small!

Hope some of you will come out to the stream on Friday! http://www.twitch.tv/gandalf1209 Follow while you can!

See you guys on the playing field!

Yamanu Game Engine – Ludum Dare Edition

Hey there!

Yamanu has been received very well since it’s first release, and I have to say thank you to all of you who downloaded and used it! It has been slightly upated for Ludum Dare. Very few things were added, and those things were very minor. You can download the library here, and you can find the latest documentation here. Documentation is not fully updated to Ludum Dare Edition, but is very similar. I am still working on a new website for the game engine, so there’s no central hub area you can visit yet. I will post that when there is one.

Anyways, thanks for downloading! I hope you find it somewhat useful!

EDIT: This may be updated before Ludum Dare starts. And you know what? Why the heck not, let’s make a git repository! You can find that here! The source code can also be downloaded from here. Feel free to do what you want with it!

Dude i hope you were not offended by my last post, i just did not know why someone whould want CPU’s vendor in java (or most languages for that matter), and was half joking. But you should add more stuff and all. And lookining at your code, how do i use the light future? Ile probebly never use your engine, but i could be “inspired” by your engine. And no that does NOT mean that ile be stealing code.

Haha, it’s great to be inspired, and I took no offense from your last post. Any feedback is good feedback, because it helps me develop. For the light, you need to use your GraphicsHandler instance to addLight(). It should add light to your scene. I will still be adding things, so don’t worry!

Yamanu Game Engine – New Update

Hello Everyone!

I see everyone is excited about Ludum Dare! It’s going to be really good! Anyways, the reason I’m here, is to tell you that Yamanu Game Engine has been updated! There are now GameObjects you can create, which use physics! Sorry that there is no documentation on the newer parts, but that will be out soon with Yamanu 1.2, along with a explanation video. You can download the Java library, and view or download the source. It is a little hard to explain, so I might try and make a last minute video, and put it up when it’s finished uploading. 😀

Thanks!

I Guess This is Necessary

I’m in the competition! Here’s what I’m using:

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Libraries: Yamanu, Better Parsing (possibly)

Art/Textures: GIMP, InkScape

Music/SFX: Audacity, Abundant Music, iNudge, Fake Music Generator

You can find Better Parsing here, and Yamanu 1.2 here. The most recent Yamanu video is here. Hope you guys have a good Ludum Dare!

Update – Open to Suggestions for a Name

Hey guys!

Thanks for those who are watching my stream! My game idea, is switching between dimensions, to solve puzzles. I need a name! Much appreciated!

Dimensions Reality – First Update

Here’s the download for Dimensions Reality version 1.0. Needs work, definitely, but I want to make sure it runs smooth on multiple systems, so testers please help out!

Dimensions Reality

Hey guys! This is my finished game for Ludum Dare 30! I will be playing, commenting, and voting tomorrow after school, but ratings and feedback are appreciated!

http://gandalf1209.itch.io/dimensions-reality

Game should be fully functional on all operating systems, so why not give it a go? Have fun with it!

Dimensions Reality – Post Mortem

Hey guys!

I made a video for my post-mortem version of my game! The original LD30 game is here, whereas the port-mortem is here. Post-mortem has and is being modified based on feedback I received from people who played it. Thanks to everyone who gave feedback, as you were featured in the video, which is here.

Thank you guys so much for playing the game!

Now is the Time!

Hello all!

I have noticed something while playing games this Ludum Dare. A lot of people are making web games. And one of the reasons this is, is for simplicity. If you click on a link to a game, you can start playing it! But sometimes you need something like Unity, or Java, and some people don’t have those things. I have made a tutorial on basic Web Game Development that you can watch here. This uses pure HTML5 and JavaScript. It is very simple to use and understand, can be distributed very easily, and is very useful when participating in Ludum Dare! If you haven’t learned web development yet, and you want to compete in December, watch this video! You may find it is easier than it seems!

Dimensions Reality Playthrough

Hey!

Did you ever get stuck if you played my LD30 game? Or do you just want to know what it is and some of the core mechanics? You can take a look here to watch the video playthrough! Thanks!

October Challenge

Hey guys!

I will be competing in the October challenge! I will be making update videos and putting them here occasionally. I have my intro video where I talk about what will be going on, here. I will be selling the game for 25 cents on Itch when the game is finished. Hopefully, I can make 4 sales, and complete the challenge.

Thanks, Gandalf1209

Yamanu Game Engine 1.3

Hey guys!

Yamanu 1.3 is now officially here! I apologize for the recent or now starting confusion on which version is what. The version for Ludum Dare 30 was 1.2. Now it is 1.3, because things were added and changed. I have a sort of changelog/demonstration video here. You can download Yamanu and/or the source code here. Thank you guys for all of your support! I really appreciate it! My Yamanu 1.2 video has over 80 views, and is the most viewed video on my channel. There’s also been a fair amount of downloads, so at least some of you are taking a look! 1.3 doesn’t add amazing features, but it fixed some annoying things, and did add a few cool features. Check out the video for more details. Hopefully I can get 1.4 out before Ludum Dare 31! Again, your support helps motivation, so if you want to see more, tell me you want more! Shoot me an email (gandalf1209@techpandainc.com) and let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Obligatory “I’m In” Post

Okay, so I guess I have to do this as to establish witness to the fact I will be competing. So here’s what I got:

Programming Language: Java (as always), or maybe JavaScript (try something new)

IDE: IntelliJ or Eclipse (not sure which though), if JavaScript, then PhpStorm or Sublime Text 2

Libraries: Yamanu Game Engine 2 (Release will be soon!), if JavaScript Yamanu-Canvas (My JS framework)

Audio: Audacity, FL Studio (maybe), sfxr

Graphics: GIMP (for the win)

This is all I can think of right now. Yamanu Game Engine 2 will be out very soon. Just a few things to finish up. I’ll probably do a video on that soon, when it’s good for Ludum Dare. Hope everyone has a good time this time around! Best of luck!
