Just woke up…

Time to hit day 2. Day 1 was long. Got the core mechanics in and working, scoring, and a restart loop. Some early art, too.

I think I’m going to make a game about time travelling zookeepers chasing a couple of Triceratops. Dino Dash? Still a long way to go. lots of polish, art, and mechanic tweaks to go. The time will vanish.

Long night ahead.

Here’s a Vine peek of the game in action.

And…submitted

DINO BOLT is over here if you want to give it a whirl. As usual, time just evaporates. Even for a simple game I just ran out of time. I’m pretty happy with the overall package and level of polish though.

Run from time-traveling zookeepers bent on capturing you. The slightest misstep and they will catch you.

Dino Bolt postmortem

I posted a lengthy postmortem over at Pastebin, thinking it’d be easier to link to.

Anyway, if you want to check it out,

HERE IT IS!

Also please drop by and play/rate the game. I started rating games last night, and will return the favor if you rate/comment in my thread.

Linux builds of Dino Bolt!

I’ve read in the past how bad Linux players have it due to no Unity in a browser for Linux, so I followed the instructions in a post and made you guys a Linux build (untested, sorry). It should be 32/64 bit together, per the instructions, and in .tar format.

Enjoy and please rate/comment :)

I’m in.

Well, here we are again. The fun, exhilaration, pain, suffering and satisfaction that is Ludum Dare.

Feels kind of like this!

Basic run-down of tools:

  • Unity/C#
  • 2D but may venture into 3D for the first time. Will see.
  • Pixen for art (perhaps Qubicle)
  • cfxr or jfxr (sound effects). Audacity for cleanup if needed.
  • Music? I never seem to have time, or skill for music.
  • Sublime Text 3 for code editing
  • OBS for Mac for Streaming (follow me in advance?)

I really don’t have an idea what genre or style of game I want to make this time, so I will think about that. For some reason I’ve been thinking about a click-n-point style adventure game. Any suggestions?

I really want to do better roughing out the core game the first night, so most of Saturday is just content creation and implementation. Sunday can be for polish.

Good luck all.

Good luck, George! Glad to see you’ll be streaming again this time.

Night one…

No real idea what I’m doing :) Spent most of it making this penguin jump around and not suck (too much).

Today (after sleep!) will hopefully by art, enemies and gameplay.

Not in love with this theme. I’m sure someone will do something very clever with it.

A penguin needs enemies, like an evil Snowman?

This is where I am

Attempting a point/click C64 color/style adventure game. It was harder than I thought. Lots of fiddly bits. The core tech is pretty much there apart from picking up items and putting inventory on screen. That's next. Then I have to actually design some rooms and puzzles, do the art/coding for them etc.

I'm probably going to bail on the compo as I want to do more than a couple rooms, so I will head for the Jam Monday night.

Unity, ASEprite, Jetbrains Rider, and lots of Google for reference shots. Probably about 20 hours in so far.

I don't know if I can complete this on time or not as the room art is more complex that I thought and puzzles take thinking time.

Hope you're all doing well.

Bag Man awaits you

Thought I'd just post a link to my finished game.

Bag Man. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/bag-man

General stats: - 31 hours of work - 21 c# files and about 1300 lines of code - Unity 2017, ASEprite, Rider, were the main tools.

It's a Pitfall clone more or less. I wanted to do far more but time. Favorite part is that the levels are generated like the original Pitfall. Polynomial counter and using the bits of the room value to spawn things. Was more flexible than I though it would be.

I'm happy with how it plays. It's pretty balanced, has decent mechanics and it challenging. You'll get better if you play it a few times. The jumps and avoiding damage are key. Enjoy.

Bag Man

An evil wizard has put a curse on you adding gold to your backpack. Run out of space and you die. Run through 32 rooms looking for backpack space to lift the curse. It's challenging and will likely take you 2-3 tries to win.

Ludum Dare 46

The Seeker now available

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/the-seeker

Would love it you dropped by and checked out my game about a primitive man seeking flame and trying to return it to his home. I missed the compo and just decided to finish it for the jam. I hope you enjoy it. It's easy to play and not that long.

The Seeker seeks players.

I added an HTML5 version of the game to my Itch page so you can play in a browser vs downloading.

Feel free to drop by and play and rate! ;) -> https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/the-seeker

Also, was surprised to get some Itch donations, including one from an anonymous benefactor who's insane? ;) Really surprising but appreciated.
