Will be participating

I’ve never participated in a full-on Ludum Dare, only MiniLDs, so this will be my first. :)

Endeavour – graphics computer

My work stations. Will do my coding in Sublime Text on “Challenger” which is running Elementary OS Luna, a Debian/Ubuntu-based Linux distro with an attractive UI. Will use Endeavour if I need to use Photoshop or paint with my tablet.

I’m very fond of my Unicomp keyboard. I might actually get another mechanical keyboard; an original “Model M”, in the mail today if I’m lucky.

Rest

I made the decision to get some sleep last night rather than start my game. So; I guess I’m having a late start but I plan on making up for it. I think the rest will be helpful.

Basic game idea is that you control a robot submarine exploring the icy ocean of Enceladus; avoiding obstacles and “scanning” alien life.

The basics

Getting the basics down.

Landing on Enceladus

Landing on Enceladus

I’m planning on having the game start off with a lunar-lander-esque section.

Progress

Space to drill

Space to drill

The first bit of the game is coming together, but there have been a number of problems along the way. And I still have another aspect of the game to work on.

Under the ice

I don’t think I’m likely to have something really polished done today but I will have SOMETHING.

Playable

I’m not sure how much more work I’m going to be able to get done. I made the mistake of using Phaser when I’m not terribly familiar with it and find it buggy and finicky compared to Flixel. If I had more knowledge of Phaser I’d have done better, I’m sure, or if I had used Flixel or HaxeFlixel.

I had a lot of trouble getting Tiled to work properly. Or CSV loading. Or ANY kind of level loading. What’s easy in Flixel is hard in Phaser. I don’t mean to hate on Phaser. As I said; I’d probably have done better if I knew the framework better.

My entry version will be hosted here. You can rate it/comment on it here.

I will be occasionally pushing updates to the version here. I had fun during this LD, even if I didn’t get nearly as much finished as I’d like. I learned a lot and I’m REALLY looking forward to the next one. :)

LD30

Will be participating

Will attempt the LD and if I can’t finish in time, the jam.

Will be working with myself.

Will probably use either HaxeFlixel (Haxe) or Phaser (JavaScript) for the framework. Sublime Text for editing. Pixen for graphics. Tiled for map editing if what I make needs it. BFXR for sounds. If I get around to music (unlikely) I’ll probably try to use Bosca Ceoil or Garage Band.

Base Code

If I do the compo and use Phaser I will likely use my simple starter template.

Probably dropping out

Am overwhelmed with ADD and don’t have the motivation or mental oomph to do this.

Adding to that I didn’t at all expect the theme that won to win.

Probably not going to do this this time. Maybe later I’ll have another go and try and make something really tiny but I just don’t have it in me right now.

I wish Ludum Dares were more common. :/

LD31

I’m in

Obligatory “I’m in” post.

Will be using HaxeFlixel or Phaser if I decide to go down the 2d route, or Three.js if I decide on 3d.

Pixen for sprites, Blender for 3d models, Sublime Text for editing, SunVox or SonicPi for music if I get around to it.

Looking forward to this.

Totally going to be doing this. Whether I am doing the compo or jam depends on whether or not I need more time.

Also, tool/framework declarations: if I decide on Phaser or Three.js I will likely use the following starters respectively:

Phaser Starter

Three.js Starter
I might also use the Unity Pro trial. We shall see.

A Pong thing

So I am playing with Unity and I have a Pong game made. Not sure how I’m going to make it unique but I’ve been learning a lot lately.

Ahah! someone else doing the TV-screen fisheye thing.

LD33

Will be attempting

Don’t know if I will be doing this or not but… maybe?

I will be using Unity, HaxeFlixel or Phaser most likely. Pixen for sprites, blender for 3d models if I do a 3d thing, Sublime Text for editing, Bosca Ceoil for music and BFXR for sounds.

LD36

I might be in

I may participate if I’m able over the weekend.

Am not sure what engine/library/framework I’ll be using – I’ll decide that as the theme is announced. Unity probably if I end up making something 3D. Any of a number of various libraries and languages if 2D.

Blender for 3D models if I end up making them. Aseprite for sprites and graphics. BFXR for sound effects. I’m not sure about music. That’s an area where I’m weak and I imagine anything I make will not have it, but I’ll try if possible.

Doing it old-school

I’ve chosen to interpret “Ancient Technology” as allowing me to make any sort of game, but do it using ancient technology, and so I’ve been working on trying to make something for MS-DOS. I’m using C with the Allegro library the DJGPP compiler and RHIDE editor in DOSBOX.  We’ll see if I can complete anything in time.

Starting late

Just now starting. I was lazy last night.

With luck I’ll be able to have something playable at least by the end of the jam.

I’m trying to brainstorm ideas – something that’d be decently entertaining but that I also think is feasible in the short time I have and that fits the theme.

That’s always hard to do. Will update when I have a more solid idea.

Progress and no progress

Dos 2016-08-28 at 10.19.32 AM

I can play sounds, move, do collision detection – the ingredients for a game are there but I’m lacking inspiration as far as “what to actually make” goes. I will have to make whatever I do make very simple to complete it in time. At least in time for the end of the Jam.
