Finished!

I wrote my game (game logic, graphics, sound), Smallworld, in 6 hours over the weekend (3 x 2 hour stints). It's an homage to 8-bit side-scrolling games of the 1980s. It's the first time I've written a game, and the first time I've used the Phaser framework, which is a superb framework. For the graphics I've used a combination of Piskel and GIMP, and for the sound beatbox.co

My First Ludum Dare

Small World was my first Ludum Dare, my first time with the Phaser framework and my first game

I only had 6 hours, in three two-hour segments in which to put together the game, so I used some of the Agile principles from my day job to produce what I could.

Firstly was to understand the constraints. In 6 hours I was never going to write a MMORPG, but if I used frameworks and tools like Phaser and Beatbox then I might be able to produce something.

Secondly I approached each 2 hour segment as an agile sprint, so there had to be working software (ie a game that could be entered into the compo) at the end of each 2 hours.

The main part of the game was written in the first sprint, and whilst there was something playable there were no animations, sound, music or opening/closing screens. The second sprint added instruction and game over screens, whilst the final sprint added animated sprites, sound effects and music.

Despite the issues with the website, I enjoyed my first LD and hope that I get at least some feedback on thengame/code etc.

Thanks for for reading!

Finished it - Trump's Trump!

First compo entry, but only spent about 8 hours on it. It's a bit rough, but if you want to stop @POTUS hitting the nuclear button, you'll find it here.

A short article I wrote about Ludum Dare, MVP and Iterative Delivery.

Good Luck!
